What is the best car head unit for the iPod tTouch?
[Question]
I want to buy a in-dash head unit for my car so I can play songs from my iPod touch. I've read that a few head units (like the lower end Alpine's) disable the iPod Touch interface and you can only select songs through the head unit. Are there any reasonably priced head units that will still allow me to use my iPod Touch when it's connected? Thanks.
[All Answers]
I have a head unit that does just that. It disables the ipod, and you have to use the controls on the unit. At first, I thought that would be bad, as you said. But, after having it for a year, I would NEVER get one where I'd have to make changes on the iPod. It's very convenient while driving. It even has an LED scroll with song info, etc.
I have the Kenwood KDC- 138 i got it for $100 and it works fine with my ipod thhe only thing is you have to buy a cable so youcan plug it into the unit and the ipod
i have a jvc from walmart at $120 that works great but i use it on my iphone and can still use other programs while its plugged in. comes with cable also.
I just installed a pioneer premier deh p6000ub deck, this deck can be used either way, i have it set so the deck controls the ipod, but it can also be used the other way (like a passenger could scroll through the ipod to select songs) And all the cables for the ipod are included, and it works awesome. This deck is the cat's ass, and can be had for a reasonable price $200-$300.
one that has AUX cause with that all u need is a cord to plug into the head unit and into the itouch like were the head phones go in thats were the plug would go
ok

What do you think about this amp?
[Question]
What do you think about the Crunch P1000.1 amp?
Is it good or bad?
Would you recommend it for me, i have a 12' alpine type-r sub wired to 2-ohm impedence?
I know that it will work but is it a good amp or na?
[All Answers]
I like the crunch but its all up to you bro
Good
bought trying to push that 12 might get it done with good sound
it would work
It will work
They're really not a bad entry level amp. They tend to be a little overrated. But, they're pretty durable and take the abuse of running in a daily driver.
crunch is some what decent. someone earlier said it was a good entry level amp. and it is, its far better than say boss or visonik. however for the money id look into jbl amps. their very good for the money. if you look on ebay you can get one of their 700 watt rms amps at about 250.00 and its gonna put out just wat it says. it will pound your type R bud. either way youll be fine.

For some reason i'm getting stereo and engine feed back into my subs.?
[Question]
I have had my system in for a little over a year now. 2 kicker 10's and 2 hifonics amps pushing them. And for no reason at all I can hear a slight hum in my base from when i accelerate. I also get short bursts of knocks from my sub when I load a CD. The noises when you hear the CD player reading the CD is in my sub but not in a high pitched form but bass. I don't know if I have a short somewhere or what the deal is. Thanks in advance!
Thanks a bunch, I will get to drilling sometime tommorow :D
[All Answers]
your getting alternator noise because you have a bad ground connection
You need a better ground. Grounding is the most essential thing in electronics. Bolt that ground straight to the body of your vehicle. Ground everything separately. Stereo, and both amps need own ground. You may need to increase ground wire size also. Hope this helps you.
Two things:
Bigger ground wire...
Keep your power wire as far away as you can from your RCA cables and speaker wires...
Check your power/ ground wire. As a rule of thumb, always go with a bigger gauge wire than what you need. It sounds like you have a grounding issue. You can contact any stereo shop and give them your amp information and they will tell you what gauge wire to use. Installation is the key to a great sounding system. It cost's a little more to use quality wiring kits, but it is well worth it.
either bad ground or u need a ground loop isolator. bout ten buks at radio shak
As you've already been told it is most likely a bad ground connection, but a bad RCA cable can also cause the same problem so if re-grounding it don't solve the problem try new RCA cables.

how to build a box for a 10 in sub, and where to put it in the car?
[Question]
for a 1993 jeep grand cherokee
what is mdf
[All Answers]
i dunno how to build it but it goes in the back/trunk
Most of what you need to know is here http://spkrbox1.spaces.live.com
you need 3/4 in MDF nails a sealant and a jig saw. build a box. look online for appropriate dimensions. cut hole for sub. run your wires to your sub from the amp. mont the sub in the box with wood screws and put it in back of jeep facing rear.
Building an enclosure is actually pretty easy. You just need the right tools and a good design.
The basic tools and materials you will need.
A tape measure.
A saw, Table saw preferably. But a Circular saw and straight edge will work in a pinch.
A drill. Preferably cordless, with an extra battery.
A 1/8" drill bit, to drill pilot holes.
Something to cut a round hole. A reciprocating saw will work. But, a router or rotozip with a circle jig works best.
Bar clamps, to hold it all together tight while you let the glue dry.
Glue. I prefer Elmer's heavy duty wood glue. Some people use Liquid nails or silicone to seal the enclosure. But, if you cut the panels correctly, you don't need it.
Enough 3/4" MDF to finish the job. MDF stands for medium density fiberboard. You can get it at home depot for about $20 a sheet.
Screws. 1 5/8" #6 coarse thread drywall screws work about the best. This is important. Do not nail the box together. Have you ever stepped on a squeaky floorboard? Yeah, it was nailed down. Nails have a way of working their way out.
Last but not least, you need a good design to work from.
Once you have all of the tools and materials together, it's time to get to work. First, Map the panels out on the sheet of MDF. Then, follow the plans that you have and cut all of the panels. Once the panels are cut, you need to glue and clamp it all together. Next, go get yourself a drink and a bite to eat. You need to let the glue dry before you go any further. That is key to a good build. If you don't let the glue dry, you'll split the MDF. Once the glue is dry, measure and mark where the pilot holes need to be drilled. Then. drill the holes and screw it together. The last step is to mark and cut the holes to mount the sub/s.
There you have it, one custom built speaker box.
As far as placement goes. Experiment a little. See what sounds best to you. In an SUV, I usually put the box in the cargo area, facing the rear.
If you don't have a design, I'd be more than happy to get one together for you. Feel free to email me through my profile.
You can buy a pre fab/ carpeted box for your 10" woofer at any audio store for about $25.00. Bring your sub with you and they can help you with the ported/ not ported decision. You will spend that much just for a sheet of MDF. If your not going to build a custom enclosure, say for 2 or more subs, it's really not worth the expense.

Which is the best postion to face your subwoofers? up towards the trunk or out towards the back of the car?
[Question]
I have three 12" JL Audio w3 subwoofers in a triangular box and I wanted to know what is the best position to place my speakers for the best sound. Or would facing the speakers towards the back AND putting it close to the trunk walls be the best?
[All Answers]
in customers cars i usually put the sub facing the trunk. i honestly don't see a difference if you face the subs the other way
Generally, facing the back will give you better output. You would'nt want to put them too close to the walls of the trunk. Try to keep them about a foot or so from the rear wall of the trunk.
well it depends. i would face them into the cabin because it will be easier to hear distortion on them. it will not rattle your trunk as bad either.
through personal experience i have found that if you face your speakers towards the rear of the trunk you get more bass output, but if you face your speakers towards the front of the car you get a little bit less bass, and at the same time much clearer bass. either way you should always bolt down or screw down your subwoofer box in order to get consistent bass. you should try both ways out to see what better suits your taste.
Those speakers will sound best if you face them towards the trunk and place them as far back against the rear seat as possible.
