Why did you buy a capacitor?
+ to battery, -to ground. Amp + to cap +, amp - to ground.
You don't really need that capacitor, and it will put a higher strain in your alternator.
There is a band or dimple on 1 end that is Positive +, hook it up to the pistuive wire from the radio the other to the other lead , the NEG - goes tyo the body or ground of car. pProbably 2 coloed wires and 2 black wires for ground.
first of all, no it will NOT put a higher strain on your alternator..
and second
connect your power cable from your battery to the + terminal on the capacitor. then have another wire about 18-20inches long going from the positive terminal of your capacitor to your amps 12v+ terminal. then get another wire the same length (about 18-20 inches) connect it to the negative terminal on your capacitor. and connect the other side to the same EXACT spot as the ground is for your amp
so it will look like this
your positive terminal on your capacitor will have 2 wires coming off of it, the one coming from the battery, and the one going TO your amp. the negative terminal on your capacitor will have 1 wire coming off of it, which this is just for your ground
and and FYI, you need to remove the fuse from the power cable by your battery to do this, you could cause severe damage and ruin your equipment
you want it charged before you connect the power wire directly. to do that:
1. connect the capacitor - to the car chassis or wherever you ground your amp. no more than a 18" ground cable
2. use a 12volt test light or bulb connected in line with between the battery + and the capacitor + terminals. the light will slowly grow dimmer. once the light goes out all the way the cap is completely charged. takes a minute or so if the engine is running.
3. now get rid of the bulb and connect the battery + directly to the + side of the cap.
Done
The wiring should be:
BAT+ to CAP+ to AMP+.....CAP- to car chassis/ground

what subs should i get?!?
[Question]
hi.
i have a choice between 2 different subs
i can either get 1 Kicker L5 15"
or 2 Kicker CVX 12" subwoofers
what should i get?!?! i am deciding between these 2.. im looking for whatever will pound harder and be louder
i made a typo
i meant 1 15" kicker L7 not l5
[All Answers]
Meatball Marinara, toasted, with cheese. Everything except onions. Mayonaisse and sub sauce. For here, please.
Get the 15. Just make sure you get a Mono block class d amp that matches the closest RMS wattage rating of the woofer. Which you can find the RMS wattage on the box, and usually the place you buy the amp fr will post the RMS wattage..
Get a subway roast beef special,To pound louder and harder, have them add some baked beans.Seriously ,go with the 15's, larger diameter = longer excursion= boomier bass.
i would get the 2 12's they will be louder and have better sound quality than the square L5

Why doesn't my sub work at all?!?!?!?
[Question]
For the past couple of days I have been trying to get my sub to work. I have tryed two different amps, 1 that I know works and that hasn't made a difference. I have a new head unit from pioneer that i got used with 4 rca outputs in the back. I have tryed both slots with two different rca cables. The amp turns on fine, but not a sound out of the sub, not even when i turn the radio on. What to do next i am at a total loss???
[All Answers]
im guessing the rca outputs in the radio dont work, if the amp is turning on and everything
check the wires going to your sub.take a 9 volt battery and take the wires going to your sub and touch both wires on the top of the battery.if it makes a popping sound your sub is fine
The sub is either blown or the wires inside the box have come loose.
Take the sub inside and connect it to a home stereo, that way you're positive there's nothing in between the stereo and your sub. If you still have no sound then go ahead and take the sub out of the box, cuz by now you're going to have to do that anyway. connect the home stereo directly to the sub's terminals.
Now it's narrowed down to either the sub, the connection at the terminal cup, etc.

Can a radio from a 1998 Mountaineer that has Mach Sound, be replaced with a regular radio?
[Question]
I have a 1998 Mountaineer. The radio has gone out, and I am wanting to replace it, but the Mach sound Stereos are really expensive. My question is: Can the radio be replaced with a regular car stereo? I bought one from Wal-Mart for $50 and am wanting to install it, but the wiring dosen't match up, even with the correct harness that is suggested. There are 3 harnesses in the car, and the kit only comes with one. Do I need to hook up the other 2 some how?

yes
When you say "the radio went out",Do you mean the display?if the radio still plays,The repair is simple. The problem is common on these mach radios{I have 98 explorer, same thing}There is a small circuit board just under top cover for display, comes out by bending 2 small tabs with needle nose pliers, the solder joints in this board come desoldered over time due to heat. There are instructions {for sale} on web, google "mach radio display out",you will come up with several fixes. One I can personally recommend is duane harrison,he will pdf you instructions on repair,or send you "new"updated board, you send him your old one back for deposit refund. With new board, repair takes all of 15 minutes to change board.Going to after market radio, you loose steering wheel controls as well as subwoofer. If you can find the right kit.I "repaired"my mach over 1 year ago, with swap board program, and it still works great.Hope this helped.
Yes, the factory radio can be replaced with any aftermarket cd player. All you need is a dash kit and wire harness. Keep in mind, if you are going to do the install yourself, you will need a ford radio removal tool, and a pair of wire crimpers.
Since that factory system is the Mach system, you will need to connect the remote turn on wire. (blue with white stripe) to the same color one on the aftermarket wuire harness. The Mach system is factory amplified. The remote turn on wire from the aftermarket radio will need to turn on the factory amp. The blue wire with the white stripe will do that.
