Installing a MP3 CD player in my car for around $200, is it good?
[Question]
I called my local auto sound system shop, and they say they can install a MP3 CD player in my car for around $200, is this a good deal or rip-off?
[All Answers]
Definitely a rip-off, I just ordered a new deck and I talked to the guys at Car Toys and they said they would do it for $55. I would suggest not going to a local place but a chain store like Car Toys.
If you are buying the radio from them then it might not be a bad deal, depending on the quality of the radio.
just buy one at best buy and theyll install it for free
i called best buy and they told me 300 so 200 is good

will i need any alternators, batteries, caps, etc?
[Question]
i have a hifonics bxi1208d pushin 2 12" alpine type r's in a '99 chevy malibu. the lights dim a little in the car when it gets up really lound but not to bad. im gonna get a rockford fosgate t10001bd as an upgrade amp and im gonna run it at 1 ohm so im hoping to get 1200 watts rms. (well see when i get the birthsheet) but will i need any alternators or batteries or anything like that or should my car be able to power it?
[All Answers]
You shouldn't need a battery if you go with a cap or an alternator. Once the car is started the battery only acts as a back power source so if your alternator goes out. So if you are planning on running more power you will want an alternator that produces more amps.
I agree... a battery does nothing while your car is running. A capacitor is definitely recommended, I would go with 1Farad. If your headlights are dimming/flickering with your current setup, then your alternator isn't keeping up. Obviously, if you go bigger it will get worse. Best to look into a higher amperage alt.
2 guys above me dont know what their talking about with capacitors..
A capacitor is only good so far as the audio system isn't trying to pull too much from the electrical system. A cap doesn't provide more power, it's designed to 'stiffen' the voltage to the amp, nothing else. If the current isn't there, a cap won't help. The alternator must have at least 20% more amperage power than the entire vehicle and sound system combined for a cap to be of benefit which is ironically the same requirements for an amp to be efficient. A cap does it's best to keep the voltage at a certain level, but if the voltage changes so will the cap voltage. The cap just makes the change smoother. The diming light syndrome isn't a voltage issue but rather a current (amperage) drop. The voltage simply follows what the current does. A cap does not help this situation at all. A cap doesn't provide more power nor does it try to correct it.
therefor a capacitor will NOT help with light dimming
your best bet will be to do the "big three upgrade" this should be all you need to do, most systems up to 1500-2000 watts require this but nothing else.. it will allow better power flow through your vehicles electrical system and wont cause the alternator to pull as much from it.. upgrading the big three ends almost ALL light dimming and problems.. its the biegger systems 2500+ rms watts that you should need a higher output alternator.. its recommended you get an optima yellow top battery as well but not needed.. but perfoming the big three upgrade should result in no dimming at all.

IF YOU WANT TO GO THE INEXPENSIVE ROUTE,TRY THE SONY EXPLODE 1200W AMP AVAILABLE AT WALMART. I PUSH 2 12" 900W(EA.) KENWOOD'S JUST FINE@ LESS THAN FULL POWER OF THE AMP. BUT YOU MAY WANT MORE JUICE.PRICE WAS 178.OO + TAX
You want a mono block amp that's 1200 watts RMS at 1 ohm
If it was me i would get a Rockford Fosgate - P1000 1bd
Its only 1000watts RMS but rockford under rate there amps!!
if you want something cheaper, any 800 to 1200 watt RMS 1 ohm mono block with work fine!!
you would want at least a 1000 watt amp since the subs are 600 rms a piece
