how much would it cost to spray paint my car myself?
[Question]
[All Answers]
depends on the cost of the paint, the size of the car, and how much you put on
Your whole car all over again
providing you had a closed garage with a good exhaust fan, a decent air compressor ($150) and paint gun ($70), some decent paint (varies), it can be very inexpensive.
But keep in mind, it won't come out perfect.
It would cost you lots more than having it done by a Professional and it will look like you painted it yourself.
You will regret it. A good paint job has to be baked on. Most likely you can't do that even if you have all the other capacities. Get it done professionally. Possibly for 3 to 4 hundred dollars, but that depends on the shop that will do it.
Go to AutomotiveTouchUp.com It is a great website that allows you type in the make and model of your car and it will give you a list of colors that are made for your specific car. You just have to know your car's color code and color, but they help you find that as well. It's usually on a sticker in the door frame of the driver door. Anyway they also have step by step instructions on how to paint your car and if you follow the instructions your car will look great. I did my car so I know from experience, and i will tell anyone I don't know crap about painting cars until now. They are also the cheapest I've come to find out. The company delivered my order very quickly as well. Try them out though. You can most definitely do it yourself. If you take it to a professional you're at least going to pay $400-$600 easy, and they might even do that great of a job. I did big touchups on my doors, front and back bumper, and side mirrors mirrors. I bought a base coat, primer and gloss coat for $45 bucks including shipping/handling. They sell their products in spray cans, pens, paint buckets. I used the spray cans.
Expect to pay around $200 for all the cans of spray paint you will need. That would be for a good quality spray paint with a couple of coats and a clear coat.
If you used cheaper paint or didn't care as much about the looks you could do it cheaper.
Don't expect it to look good or last long. If you spend a lot of time on prepping the car it could look okay, but it won't ever look like a professional paint job.
Good Luck!!!

What's the best way to install a CD deck in my car?
[Question]
Okay, here's the background... My car was broken into and they stole my deck. The black plugs are still attached but many other wires were ripped out badly. Now if I went to Best Buy or some place like that and had them install a CD deck, are they able to do that with those ripped wires? They able to replace them (for a charge i guess, doesn't matter), or do I have to bring it somewhere else to get the wires fixed before i have the CD deck installed. And if i do have to get the wires fixed first, where do I go for that? Thanks.

Best buy will and should be able to fix the problem but they might charge you a little bit more to change or fix the wiring where it was ripped out but no problem with Best Buy tho..
Wouldn't an mp3 player be more practical?
you can do it yourself.. jus by the cd deck and usually it comes with wires in the box you can use those to replace the old wires. depends on the type of radio you buy. you gotta ask
those bastards, best buy should have no problem fixing it, the worst thing is if the wires were stripped back too far to make the install difficult, don't worry about asking them about additional costs, meaning don't give them any ideas, some installs are easy some are difficult but the same flat fee should apply.
I'm pretty sure you can take it to best Best Buy but don't let them hassle you. It might cost a little extra than a normal installation with the wires intact but the extra cost should come from having to buy extra wires or equipment not from being charged extra for the cd installation itself. An install is an install. Make sure you know what their doing and how they will charge you for the work being done and/or equipment used before everything is said and done.

What are the best Sub and Amps out on the market ?
[Question]
Im looking to buy subs and an amp set for my car and I want a good quality set I want to have them fuckin bumpin any suggestions people? I was looking at sound stream bc my friend just picked up a set and they sound pretty good
[All Answers]
There's no "best sub" or amp out there. It is a very objective thing.
If money is not an issue, buy a Critical Mass UL12. Then buy a SAZ-1500 to power it. But i highly doubt thats within ur budget =)
Soundstream has nice products, go for them if you liked them. Another good quality brand thats cheap is Audioque. You can only buy them online though.
Your question is very general and no one can recommend anything for you with what u said. Set your budget, then state whether you want SPL or SQ.
Really it doesn't depend on the speakers as much as a few things all combined together. First yes, find some speakers, I think that kicker and JL audios are usually pretty good, hit pretty hard, and their amps are mostly underrated. The trick comes here, a box, it will make all the difference, as will a capacitor and the wiring. The speakers and amp could be a killer combo, but if in the wrong box, it won't hit nearly as hard as it could, same thing with setting it up and working it with your head unit. Its like a cars engine, if everythings not done right, then its going to run like poo. Read up in the magazines about how to make custom boxes, or take to a reputable shop and have one custom made for your ride, not something bought off a walmart shelf. Good luck with it though!
go with kicker. a friend of mine has 2 10'' L5's at 800w and its louder and has more bass then a guy at his work with 2 12" rockford t2's w 2000w
If you want sq go for DLS it is awesome equipment. For spl depending on your budget, JL audio w7 subs are old school now but really do drop low and kick use with JL 1000/1 amp and you'll love it, if your gonna build the box yourself make sure you build it tight and to the correct enclosure size, if the box is crap then you could buy a £1000 sub but it would sound rubbish. Good luck dude.
i would go with memphis car audio all the way. a full setup with 2 12"s and speakers all around with the wires and full instulation runs about 1000 - 1700 dollars but it will beat ur head off

It's not wireless so there's no interference. Not to be confused with an FM transmitter. Basically it adds an AUX input to ANY radio. No searching for a clean channel.
It feeds your audio signal from a headphone jack ( or RCA cables) by FM modulation, directly into the antenna input on your radio bypassing the antenna when on, allowing the radio to work as normal when off. It comes with an On/Off switch.
This is the answer. Totally versatile.
Here's one in action - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHBI0LBGhR0
There is this unique device you can buy at any large store ex:walmart target. Its called a tuner modifier. You plug it in to your ipod turn the radio on to a certain station,{89.6} or something and like magic your ipod comes in through the radio!
yes you either have to buy a new deck for the car that has an ipod hook up either an aux jack in front is the most basic or an actually ipod jack that looks the same as the one you use for your computer which you then can control the ipod through the deck. or the cheaper option is to buy and fm transmitter for your ipod but if you go this route make sure you buy one that plugs into the lighter in your car because they have more power and generate a better signal so your music is clearer. if you go to bestbuy or right now circuit city (since they are going out of business and everything is on sale) they can help you to find what works best for you.

kicker amp cuts off at high bass?
[Question]
i have a kicker zx1000.1 amp pushing a 4ohm 15" kicker L7. when i turn the volume up the amp cuts off and comes back on. i check all the wiring and they all look right and i can't figure out whats wrong with it. Please Help!!
[All Answers]
check your settings on your amp or it might be your gain as well
Matt u need to turn your level or gain down and make sure that you have it set on low frequency not full or high. then adjust your bass setting so that your amp doesnt cut out. What is happening is that you have too big a sub for that amp so when the amp cant keep up with the sub it cuts off the power to the amp. Its just a normal failsafe on the amp.
The gain (level) is the most important.
The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp for correct power matching and to prevent clipping (damage by over powering).
Here is a guide that will help you set the gain correctly http://www.box.net/shared/uchv4dbk88
You'll need a multi-meter (AC voltmeter, $15 from Radio$hack), Microsoft Excel and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3.
If you don't have Excel, use this link http://www.box.net/shared/nkkw1dhk4g
Set the LPF to just below the highest range of the frequency response of the subs. Meaning if the frequency response of the sub is 20-200Hz, set the LPF to about 180Hz.
Set the subsonics filter to about the same as the lowest setting in the range of the frequency repsonse of the subs. Meaning about 20Hz if that's the lowest in the range (20 -200Hz as above, if applicable).
Don't set the Bass Boost above +2dB (if applicable).
Set the phase to 0 (if applicable).
See my site for more info http://spkrbox1.spaces.live.com
Sparky is mostly right, but the LPF and SSF setting might be a little off. The LPF depends on how low your front speakers can get. Most of the front speakers are good for down to about 80hz (while still sounding good), so you set the LPF to around 80hz. Anything above that anyways isn't going to be very audible by your subwoofers anyways. After all, a subwoofer IS a SUBwoofer, meant to play low frequencies and not high frequencies.
Your SSF depends on your box. If it is sealed, you can turn it off and not even have a SSF. If it is ported, it is good to set it at 10hz below the tuning frequency. So for example, you have your ported box tuned at 34hz, so the SSF would be good to set it at around 24hz.
The SSF is mainly used to not damage your speakers. The LPF is used mainly to make it blend with your front stage.
