Breakin period for kicker solo baric 15" l7?
[Question]
i got a new 15" solo baric l7 i just dont want to mess anything up before i go beating down the road how long is the bbreak inperiod
[All Answers]
break in periods are pretty much a myth. not needed. it is true that the measurable sound does change as it breaks in, but there are no scietific facts to support any damage would occure with improper breakin.
yeah only a myth. But bump your system at low setting for a week or so. Then you'll be fine.
You dont even need to wait a week just make sure to slowly turn it up and you can bump it right off the bat... the cone just takes time to actually work in which is what the breakin actually is... it just increases the loudness and sound quality a bit
You might be able to call Kicker directly. They're probably more than happy to tell you for how long and how to do it. I'm not sure that all subs are the done the same way. A lot of them will say on their spec sheet what specs will change after they're broken in.
The statement of a breaking in period being a myth just isn't true. The only time I've ever had a sub blow was one that I didn't break in properly. That's happened only once to me. You can write all the technical stuff down on paper about how subs don't need to be broken in, but in real life you just gotta do it.
This is straight from Kickers website.
Important Break-In Information
Due to the complex nature of the Solo-Baric® L7s they require a little extra time to break-in. Especially in sealed
enclosures, break-in is a must in order for woofers to produce optimum low bass response. Due to the high
performance suspension system incorporated in the Solo-Barics they are very stiff out of the box. Approximately
two weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. The broken-in
sub will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low bass extension.
For those of you with more sophisticated audio equipment, the Solo-Barics can be broken-in on the test bench
overnight with the following procedure.
Solo-Baric Freeair Break-in Procedure
1. Connect the speaker to a power amp of about fifty watts or more. The speaker should not be mounted in any
enclosure - just freeair. Please make sure it will not walk off the bench while it is playing!
2. Connect an audio generator to the input of the power amp, and adjust the generator to approximately 45Hz for
the S8L7, 35 Hz for the S10L7, 30 Hz for the S12L7, and 20 Hz for the S15L7.
3. Now adjust the gain on the amplifier and generator so that the cone is moving to Xmax. This can be determined
visually by looking at the blur depth of the logo on the ISD. A close approximation will do. On the S8L7 this will be
about 3/4, on the S10L7 about 1, on the S12L7 about 1,and on the S15L7 about 1 1/4.

Stereo System Question?
[Question]
OK i own a 2001 Chevy silverado. It has just the basics in it nothing fancy windows are hand crank the locks are manual and it just has an am/fm radio. I want to put a good sound system in it because the speakers aren't that great in it so when i turn my music up it sounds all gargly (and no it isn't rap music).I also want to put in a stereo with a cd player. Where can i buy this kind of stuff and what brand would you suggest.
[All Answers]
idk where you live so i cant tell what shop to go to .... but i would buy rockford fosgate speakers with a sony or alpine or kenwood head unit ....but i would go to bestbuy
You probably don't need to hear this part but I'd stay away from anyone that starts their advice with "idk."
Rockford speakers are poorly made and blow very easily. While I was selling car stereos I saw a disproportionate amount of these and MTX speakers come back blown. Speakers depend a lot on your sound preference. I personally don't think it gets much better than polk audio but a lot of people like pioneer/alpine (their speakers are made at the same plant) infinity, kenwood and clarion. You just have to go listen to them with the music you like and decide which one sounds best. One thing to mention, all stores use an amp on the in store setup, so don't be surprised when they're not quite as good when you throw them in the truck.
Alpine head units are fantastic but they're very expensive. I find the options on pioneers are equal or better and the slightly reduced sound quality is made up for in the 50% price difference. Kenwood are also decent, less expensive than alpine but more expensive than Pioneer and still lots of features but not the same sound quality that you get with the alpine. Stay away from Sony, the sound quality is just sub-par. Same goes for all of the lesser brands like Jensen, JVC or whatever that cheap blue one is at best buy.
If there is a frys around you that would be a good start...
If you dont listen to rap your really going to want some sound quality...
Alpine has a great line of headunits and speakers all with great sound quality
Your also going to need an amplifier to power the speakers so they sound good.
http://www.alpine-usa.com/
Search here and see if something catches your eye-
http://www.crutchfield.com/c_3/Car-Audio-Video.html
There are lots of pretty honest reviews for most of the items there. And check here to see what fits your truck--
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-pigV06LR9Pt/cgi-bin/autoinfo/autoinfo.asp?lp=%2fapp%2fCar%2fMyCar.aspx
From the sounds of it, i'm pretty sure you don't want something outrageously loud, so I'd suggest just a head unit and 4 speakers. Pioneer is always a good choice for cd player. Polk, Infinity, Boston are good brands of speakers. There are more, but that should get you started.
After you find something you like, google the model numbers and you'll always find the stuff somewhere else for cheaper. Or if you do get it from crutchfield, they include all your harnesses, kits and instructions for your particular vehicle and make it simple to install yourself.
I personally prefer Digital Designs. Component Set, your 6.5's and tweaters, are extremly good but need an amp to support the power they draw. They are a little pricey but it rocks my car. I also perfer them to subwoofers. I have 4 8inch subwoofers running 1500 watts all DD, and i beat 12 inch Kicker L7's running 4000 watts. So they can deffanatly pull their weight. One problem DD's MUST have room to breath. A big box which is probably not what you have room for.
STAY AWAY FROM SONY AND ALL WALMART PRODUCTS!! Go to a actual car audio store or professionals. Best Buy doesn't count, most of their stuff is garbage and charge way to much. But since you sqeezing in a tight space, unless you have a lot of room, Image Dynamics rock with just enough room to put the sub in the box. All of the componet speakers are very nice and on the treble side of the sound specrum.
But go to Google maps and type in car audio for your area and go to one of the store. Shop around for the cheapest price. If anymore questions you can e-mail me at mugzy91215@yahoo.com
Hope you find what you're looking for.

Is my subwoofer blown? When I turn on my car, all the subwoofer does is make a steady thumping noise.?
[Question]
Is my subwoofer blown? When I turn on my car, all the subwoofer does is make a steady thumping noise. I've got everything hooked up.
Also, could this be due to maybe RCA's becoming unplugged behind my headunit or something? Maybe my ground is loose? Some other problem?
Or possibly a problem with the amp?
[All Answers]
Possible interference with wiring and car wiring.
is this a new install? If so it sounds like you have a live wire hooked up wrong. A blown speaker sounds like popping and cracks snaps.
No worries my friend: your sub woofers are probably fine...check the cross-overs and also the fuse box...Once that is fixed, try not to crank the sound so loud...Good luck.
First of all, I have no idea what you're talking about.
But judging from your correct use of English words, I'm deducing your ethnicity; which - to me - suggests that you don't need a car subwoofer at all, Dawg.

why wont aftermarket speakers fit in my 65 mustang without cutting up the interior?
[Question]
[All Answers]
your stock speakers are 4" x 10"
since you don't want to modify anything, they do still make those and there are a few different models at crutchfield.com
I had to make a few minor "adjustments" in the rear speaker panel to accomodate modern 6"x9"s in my '65 coupe. However, you can find "kick" panels for the front with mouldings already made to hold 6" diameter speakers. It's not a whole lot of work. My dad and I installed a Custom Autosound stock-looking head unit w/ hidden cd changer, two 6x9" Sony Xplods in the back, 2 6" Sony Xplods in the front, and a 12" Xplod subwoofer with a 1000-Watt Pioneer amp in the trunk.
because your car comes stock with 1 4x10 in speaker in the dashboard...
They donteven really make 4x10 except just to fit into your car...
http://www.metropartsmarket.com/catalog/image_classicmustang_c2_51688.html
if you wanted to keep your car stock...
Or theres always the backseat speaker panel that fits right in....

Both of these options are to keep you from doing anysort of cutting into the interior

Did I get the wrong speakers for my car?
[Question]
I have a completely stock stereo system in my car(2003 ford mustang gt) and I changed out my old speakers for new pioneer 150watt max and 50watt rms. My issue appeared obvious when I upped the volume a bit my new speakers vibrate alot even at low volume and the tuning at half bass. My old stock speakers didn't vibrate at all at same settings The vibration changes the sound of the music alot. Someone told me I needed speakers with more rms watts is this true?
[All Answers]
If your using the same stereo I would look at what the wattage rating is on the old speakers. Otherwise speakers do have different ohm ratings as well if your old ones dont state wattage. My pioneer stereo in my Taurus has a menu I can go into to change the ohm settings for the speakers. I monkeyed with that when I first put my stereo in cause I left the stock speakers in the front doors.
No, watts aren't the issue here.
First off you need to find out what's rattling. Is it the speaker grilles, the speaker itself or is it a blown speaker?
My money says you just need to tighten them down in their mounts and the speakers themselves are rattling.
If it's the grilles you can get creative with a little foam rubber around the edges and around the sockets they click into.
If it's not either of the above issues then check to see if the speakers are blown. The easiest way to do it is just by sound, but you have to know what you're listening for. Other than sound you can do a couple of other tests. Physically move the speaker cone with your hand. Gently, of course, move the cone back and forth, if you feel any resistance or hear any "scratchy" noise while you move it then the voice coil is blown and it needs to be replaced. You can also smell the back of the speaker while you move it, if it smells burned, the voice coil's blown.
Why would the speakers be blown? You turned it up louder than it can handle and it blew the speakers. More watt handling does not equal louder speakers. The problem is that the speakers are too small to create the sound you're looking for. Think of a home stereo, if you look at one of those speakers they have a small tweeter, a mid-range speaker and a woofer. In your car you've got the tweeter and then you've got . . . well it looks like it's about the same size as the mid-range speaker on the home stereo. And essentially, that's what you've got. You'll have to add a sub woofer to get it louder. They just can't handle bass.
The other possibility is that you have a factory amp in that car that uses a different resistance (ohms) than the speakers you installed. If that's the case it's going to be expensive to upgrade. You may have to rewire around the amp and buy a new headunit to replace the stock stereo and have all four speakers replaced.
Make sure you screw the speakers tightly.
