I want a car sound system in my car. How much we talking?
[Question]
I would really like a car sound system in my car (2002 Ford Taurus-SES-Gray Metallic)....
I have no idea what I need. An amp? Speakers? Is that it?... How much do they usually run? I really dont wanna spend more than $500, but will if really necessary. How much for installation? I know a friend of mine could do it for me in given time if its too much.

At least $400.
ok go to www.sonicelectronix.com and start putting one together i got one with amp, 2 12" subs, 6x9's and a set of 6 1/2" speakers and a 2000w capacitor for about $450 (including shipping), and there boss and alpine speakers, amp and subs r off-brand
this is not including a second battery or heavy duty alternator to run the system....the system i put together was about 3,400watts plus the 2000watt capacitor for the amp and subs...
depends on how good you want it. a crappy system is like $200 a extremely good one is at least $10000 . my sound system cost me $6856.98
basically what you want if you want a full system is a head unit, speakers, amp for speakers, subs, and a amp for the subs and of course the wires and a box for the subs. you could maybe get all of it for under $500 if you get the cheap lower performance stuff or used stuff. but i would say you could get everything decent for around 1000 or less depends what you want for performance. starting with the head unit aka a deck if you want to play your ipod through it get a front aux or a usb and other then that its up to you on what you want it to do. for speakers i would recommend alpine type s or type r. you wouldnt necesarily have to amp your speakers but it helps with the performance of them. for subs it depends what music you listen to do you listen to rap or rock basically. do you want the boooms or not. the square subs will get you better low booms. circle subs will still give decent amount of boom. if you listen to rock i would get like 10" circle subs at the biggest so they have quick response to the music. for rap i would get 12 in circles for average amount of bass or some 12-15 in square subs for some big low booms. the box you put them in should be sealed for rock and ported for rap. you have to amp your subs. get a mono amp that has about the same rms as you sub (it will tell you what it is on the box or in the description online). as for instillation best buy can do it i know it would prolly be around 200-300 for a full instal on everything im guessing. it would be nice iff your friend could do it if he knows what hes doing.
one thing to know you get what you pay for in audio if its dirt cheap its prolly cheaply made
well if just wont 1 12'' sub then you could do it for well under 500....lets put it this way. the more bass you wont the more money you will have to spend.........on ebay they are selling bran new 15'' kicker comp's for 74.95 with free shipping. i would buy that and a small 500 watt amp and you can have a Pretty good system for about $200
one of my friends put two 12 inch mtx jackhammers in his truck and a bunch of tweeters on the side (you don't need them) and he bought a random amp for it and the thing pounds pretty good. MTX is a good brand so it's not like it is junk it would cost you 700 for everything tho but it will shake your truck

my sub calls for 2.25 ft of air in the box will a 1.5 ft of air box hurt my subs porformance to much?
[Question]
i have a 15'' kicker comp and the minnimum of 2.25 cu ft of air space. the bigest box i can fit is 1.5 cu ft. (i have a 1980 ford pinot that alredy has two 12'' kenwood db+'s) will having this small of box hurt my sub to much?
its just a comp its not cvr.
thanx, all answers have helped
[All Answers]
yea you wont get the full potential of the sub but it will work
its not going to "hurt" your sub in any way, it just wont be at its full potential. It'll hurt your box before anything.
put 3" port in. too small volume means more backpressure on the sub, and eventually will weaken the suspention, and even burn out the coil. by porting it slightly, you are releasing some of the excess pressure and thus "increasing" the box volume. it will still be tight and also add a slight reflex as well, giving you awesome sound. make sure the port pipe stops about 1" from the back of the box.
a smaller box in some cases will even ruin your subs because of the volume of air it needs to push back and forth the compression is just too high, there for you will damage Voice Coils if not your Subs completely.
i had a W-7 in a smaller box then recommended.. the result was nothing pretty with a 60pounds subwoofer.. costed me 250$ to repair the mess which was due to lazyness and lack of awareness.
Like they said it wont hurt too much but the sub wont sound nearly as good and kicker compvrs are made to perform excellent in ported boxes. Ported boxes that meet the specs for a sub are always bigger sealed boxes matching the specs of a sub. If its necessary to have a small box because you dont have room for a big one then go with the box you have but if you can fit a ported box have one custom made to the subs airspace specs. Custom made is always your best bet for getting maximum performance from subs. A box can make or break your system. I installed at circuit city for 3 years until we went out of business and I saw many nice sub and amp set ups that sounded like crap because their boxes werent the correct size. Hope this info helps and good luck

it'll work, get 4 ohm version if you are running one sub.
yes although the sub is going to blow out if u crank it to long....find an amp that has a rms at or a little lower than 750watts
Yes that set up will work if you get the 4 ohm compvx so you can run the amp @2 ohms like mentioned. I would personally go with a kicker zx750.1 amp instead though. I had the same set up but my sub was an L7 which has the same rms as the vx. It is the perfect match and kicker always runs the best with other kicker products. I installed for 3 years at circuit city and know for a fact that the vx and 750 slam together. Oh and by the way you wont blow the sub if you run it with the amp youre talking about as long as you corectly set the gain and dont overpower the sub. Plus kicker is known for their durable subs. If you do go with that amp dont worry about blowing the sub.
yeah

4 subs? good system? help!?
[Question]
I am looking to get 4 of these subs, http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductReview.aspx?ProductID=17651
two of these amps to power them, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9045561&type=product&id=1218012144318
and this head unit, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8948838&type=product&id=1215819593385
anything special I need to do to hook up 4 of them? Good amp for these subs? Will it bump?
Thank you in advance
[All Answers]
you need a multi-amp install kit, should come with a distributor block, which you'll need if it doesnt. Be careful, you are asking alot of power from your battery/alt. It'll bump but you really only need 2 subs to bump. If you never had a system before, 2 subwoofers is the best way to go. Also those subs arent very good, alpine kicker rockford fosgate is better, as far as amps those arent very good, way overrated with power, they are a cheap brand. It will sound okay though
ya your drawing a ton of power off your alt/battery this way...u need to get a higher output alternator and better battery(or maybe a second one)if your gona try this, i would recomend just going with 2 subs it will still give u a good kick.
they will bump and shake your ride, but the product here are not quality subs and amps for constant beating.
if your gona bump every now and then it'll be more than enough. if your gona try and shake a block or more then your out of luck your more likely gona blow a sub / amp do to heat or mechanical failure.
why dont you do a 1 JL w SERIES or 1 Kicker SOLO with a 1000 watt amp @ mono or 2ohms for response. quality item will allow you to beat the living crap out of it and still see tomorrow.
if you want to bump on a low budget the items you have posted are a pretty good buy, and you should go for it depending on your wants and needs. its all up to you as the user / operator.
hope this helps- good luck on your audio setup
the subs are good the amp is kinda good but theres a lot of better thing for the money
for a more powerful amp and at the same money kole 4000D

Is my box tuned to high for my subwoofers?
[Question]
I just got a new box tuned to 38 hz for my pioneer premeirs rated at 800 rms for the pair, and it sounds so much better than my seperate sealed boxes did. My amp is rated at 760 rms bridged. I never smelled coil or felt heat on the subs in my sealed boxes, but with the ported box they are heated to the touch. They seem like they should be able to handle it, I am under-rating the subs with the gain set properly at around 3/4. The amp does not heat up at all, its just the subs since I got the new box. Any ideas for the cause? It sounds amazing compared to the sealed and is properly wired to 4 ohms in a parallel series bridged to the amp. Is this hurting my subwoofers? Seems like the coils could burn up..
The chambers for each sub is I think 1.3-1.5 (havent measured) cubic feet, and the box itself is 4.3 cu. feet. The recommendations for ported box size state "1.25 - 2.05 cubic feet", so it is not to big nor too small, also the box has dual port slots.
22, wtf are you talking about. I have NEVER heard of a box being tuned to 22 hz. And what does this have to do with being ghetto? wtf is wrong with people.

dude, you never mentioned what size your woofers are. 10, 12, 15?
You have no clue as to how to properly set you your gain, for all you know your over powering your subs. To set it correctly you need to use a voltometer, measure the pre amp out voltage then set your gain to that voltage. The gain is not a volume knob.
