How to tell if a sub is good...?
[Question]
i wanna know how to tell what a really good subwoofer is...some say the foam around the sub and some say the magnet...i want subs that pound real loud but i don't know too much about them, help me...
[All Answers]
just buy brand new ones
The more the cost the better they are
Have a look at jl audio 13 w7 or kickers =)
I'm assuming this is for a car..[?]
Typically with any speakers the most important specifications are frequency response & power handling capability [wattage]. The better subs will have a low freq response, [~15-20Hz] and be able to handle high wattage. Of course you'll need a healthy amp, crossover and head unit drive the sub...

what is the best kind of wood to buy when building a speaker box? ?
[Question]
and should i use screws, nails, or glue. give me some suggestions please
[All Answers]
the best is plywood and u need to use screws cause glue can seperate when the speakers move
MDF
ply whood and screws
i like to use a pece of 1/1 to screw the screws in to
3/4" or thicker MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is the best overall material to use. Plywood is not going to be as strong or audibly neutral as MDF.
MDF is by far the best overall and most common material for building an enclosure out of.
Don't use nails when making an enclosure. Some people use a brad nailer, which is okay because the glue is what holds the enclosure together mostly. We still prefer using screws for added strength and peace of mind in knowing our enclosures will never fail or break apart.
For glue, many people use liquid nails but we prefer a premium wood glue. Wood glue will give you a much stronger bond then liquid nails. Liquid nails is good because it can help seal the joints, however.
Good Luck!!!

Should i buy a 2channel amp or a 6-channel amp?
[Question]
I am hooking up some subs in my car, im gonna go with 2 12" Rockford Fosgate punch subs. I have semi decent speakers but i plan on buying ones that are better, but still i dont plan on spending alot on them.
My question is whether or not i should go with a 2 channel amp and only hook my 2 subs up to the amp, or if i should get a 6 channel amp and hook up all my speakers to the amp to increase the quality. Dont tell me its up to me because that doesnt help. Would (YOU) get the 2 channel amp or the 6 channel amp if u were sorta on a budget?
[All Answers]
i would get a two channel first and then add a four channel later due to the fact that a six channel amp isnt compatable with all head units.. i was going to put a five channel in my car and it was going to be way expensive and would of needed a bunch of different compents to make it work so i would say go with the two and add as you go on
a 2 chanel amp cant be a 6 but a 6 can be a 2 so i wood get the six

Do all 10 inch subs require the same diamiter hole to be cut in a box?
[Question]
Is the diammiter 9 1/4 inch good
[All Answers]
yes its good
they shud unless its a narley onbe
No...
There are a vast range of diameters for the mounting hole of a 10" sub, or any sub in fact. 9 1/4" diameter will work for most subs but it won't be a perfect fit for many. 9 1/4" is somewhat common but it is big for many 10" subs. Some 10" subs will have a diameter closer to 8 7/8" or even 8 3/4".
The enclosure should be built specifically for the sub being used. Just like the diameter of the subs are different, not all subs will need the same size enclosure. Some subs will need a sealed enclosure while others will work better in ported. They will all need different internal volumes in order to reach their optimum performance. Make sure the enclosure you are using is built to the specs of your sub.

when wiring car speakers.. does the thickness of the wires matter?
[Question]
do speakers function better with thick or thin wires??
[All Answers]
well thicker wire is best especially if you have amps and subs, you can go to walmart, autozone or advanced autoparts and buy speaker wire, you can buy a roll of it, it'll say speaker wire on the roll, but stock speaker like 6 1/2" or 6x9s only need the thinner wire but you'll need the thicker speaker wire for subs and amps
thicker wires for sure because the bigger wire carries more juice 2 ur speakers....if ur wiring amps use 6 gauge or bigger if ur wiring speakers us at least 16 gauge but don't go much bigger than 14 gauge cuz it gives too much juice to regular speakers
It depends.
If you are just gonna wire the speakers and just play it with mid volumes or normal operating volumes. these wires weather thick or thin doesnt matter.
but if you want to push the speakers to it's potential, you need a good quality wiring kit. mostly these are guage 4-8 wires "or thick wires"
of course thicker wires more current it can handle .
