Orion and Rockford Fosgate make good amps but they can be expensive

I used to have a pioneer 4 channel on my speakers. Within a year, it blew and I replaced it with a Fosgate that had the exact same power ratings. The Fosgate has been running for 3 years, and sounds immensely better than the pioneer did.

well lets see it depends...



- what kind of sound do you want?

- what speakers/subs are you connecting?

- what kind of vehicle is it going in?

and the big one...

- how much do you want to spend?



...if youre on a budget, some MTX, Kicker, and Alpine for example should be considered.

...if money is no object, check out Zapco, Soundstream, Audison, and DLS for example.

Need help with my trucks sound system?

Ok, I have a 1998 silverado 1500 standard cab. I am replacing the 2 front speakers with 2 6 1/2inch kicker speakers and the rear cab corner speakers with some boston acoustic 4"-6". I was wondering since I do not currently have a subwoofer and a wedged box to fit behind my seat do you think that my trucks head unit could sufficiently power my speakers without me having to buy an amp. If the amp is absolutely neccessary I will find one somewhere but due to limited space ( my truck is a w/t model ) even an amp would take up alot of room.
Thanks all of you. I was thinking about putting one under the seat if it was necessary. Thanks for all the help. I would give all of you the best answer but I cant. That helps alot though because I was misinformed about the rms that my head unit puts out so I will be buying an amp shortley. Thanks so much.

if you want to get the best sound from your speakers you definetly need an amp, you could get one of those compact amps that dont take up any space. here take a look at these

it could power them. But it wont power them fully. Head units produce around 22 watt rms to 45-50 watt max. You will be under-powering the speakers but its personal choice. If you only want to play your stereo with medium quality and volume, dont get an amp. If you wanna play high volume and maintain quality, get an amp, you wont be disappointed. Hope this helpes.

you need an amp for just about every decent aftermarket speaker. Like the other guy said mount the amp under the seat this will require you removing the seats and screwing it down to the floor but make sure you mount it where you won't hit any fuel lines or exhaust or brake lines or anything else important underneath the car.

if you want a good brand that will be worth paying for, then go with the kicker ZX2500.1 but you will have to set your subs to 2 ohms. or you can check out hifonics amps too. if you want something more cheap that will still push them go with boss OL4KD Outcast Amplifier. you will still have to set them to 2 ohms. i would go with kicker or hifonics. they are worth it.

What size speaker wire should I use?

I just got a new amp and 4 replacement speakers for my truck.



I am going to run speaker wire from my 4-channel amp to each speaker. I will be running a 4 ohm load, 50w x 4 channels. Should I go with 16 gauge wire or would I benefit going with a larger size like maybe 14 gauge? From everything that I read it looks like 16 will do just fine.

16 should be fine but i always say the bigger the better. The thicker the wire the less resistance the less resistance the more power to the speakers.

the first guy is right the bigger the better but 16 should be more than plenty. fyi the power wire to the amp should be much larger 8guage or bigger depending on the amp (the ground wire too)

Why is there extra sound coming from my speakers when my amp is turned up?

I have a set of Kenwood KFC-1682IE for my door speakers and a set of Kenwood KFC-6982IE for my rear speakers with a Soundstream XTA360.4 amp pushing just these speakers. (I have a separate amp pushing my subs.) Anyway, right now the amp is only turned half way up, but if I turn it up anymore, this clicking and buzzing noise comes from my speakers. Is it because that the amp is too much power or what? And is there a way to fix it?

Its not your amp, its the engine noise. go to radio shack and get a inline power noise filter for your amp. that will reduce the sound to be tolarable. good luck

yeah it will be interference. You have seperated the power to the rest of the cables on opposite sides of the car i hope? If its not the cables, it could be that your clipping your sub or speakers. Try turning the gains down before you buy the filtering stuff. Just make sure your gains are never set to full.

As mentioned, you should have the Power cable running on one side of the car and the RCA's & if any, speaker wire, down the other..

check your grounds and any electrical shorts along the way.
