yes
some cars yes, some cars no
Sorry it depends on the car. Some do some dont
the car doesnt need to be on. the key needs to be in and turned so you can hear the radio. it will charge directly from the battery, so dont do it for too long, or you wont be able to start the car
yes because it draws quite a bit of electricity
I have one that does and one that doesn't.
It should work
it depends on your car. if it's newer it will have some symbols on the plug in. a battery means it doesn't have to be on, a key means it does. you should have at least one that uses a battery,
if it's an older car it just depends. you'll have to experiment.
in a clown car, you'd have better luck plugging it into a twinkey.
Some do and some don't!!!
My VW- its on all the time
My Wife's Jeep- only when the car is running.

Car speaker wiring question?
[Question]
I want to run my 4 speakers off of my 4 channel amp. My 2 front speakers can handle more power than the 2 smaller rear speakers. So I was wondering if I could wire the front speakers for a 2 ohm load (parallel) and the rear speakers for a 4 ohm load. I wasn't sure if this would hurt the amp or the speakers. Or do I have to run the same impedance to the front as to the rear?
I'm installing this in my '06 dodge ram quad cab and just wanted to get as much power as I could out of my amp. But I do still want it to sound good. I'm not installing teeny-bopper subwoofers....I went through that phase about 12 years ago.
[All Answers]
you could bridge the front two from the 1st and 2nd channels on the amplifier, given that your amp is stable at 2 ohm x 2 channel, but i wouldn't recommend it. A 4 channel amp is designed to amplify each channel individually, so in a 4 speaker car system, you don't lose functionality from left to right and front to back. Also, your front speakers would be disproportionately louder than your rear speakers. I'd highly advise against doing it.
Why amp the speakers that are built into your car? Amp up a set of speakers in your trunk pointing them to the back. The amp will give some boost to the other 4 without even driving them directly. I suggest you get a good amp with full range settings and some decent subs that are good in full range. You don't have to go all out. I run a simple duel 10" sub boxed with a 400 watt amp and it gives good thump and can be well cranked up pushing the music into your chest. You don't have to go professional and be all pimped out as long as it sounds good inside the car. Side note: you aren't cool if you thump down the road and others can hear it 2 blocks away if it doesn't sound good inside the car/truck.
as long as the amp is stable at 2 ohm nothings wrong with doing that...that's what i did to all 4 in my truck.
Alex is kind of right. Kind of confusing...but kind of right
So, to get your front 2 speakers to reach a 2 ohm load you would need to connect them together and hook them up to the amp.
On the amp you would have the option to running to only one of the 2 channels for the front but you would gain nothing. because you would get about 2x the power out of that channel., but now your splitting it between both speakers. BAD CHOICE
On the amp you would have the option to bridge the amp and run it at 2 ohm Bridged. Most 4 channel amps do not like this and will fail in short order if you try to do this. But if you have an amp that will let you do this. you would lose your left to right balance. but you would be receiving about twice as much power from the amp.
But my real question is this....
why in the heck would you want to do this anyways???
does the amp have voltage input controls.. GAIN knobs..
has someone that knows what they are doing adjust your gain controls to make it sound the way you want....
or better yet.... if you want to adjust the output of the front in rear...
USE THE FADER ON YOUR RADIO ! ! ! ! !
you haven't given the wattage of the front and rear speaker so giving a correct answer is difficult the rear speakers could be over driven, are the four channels on the amp completely independent ?if the speakers at the rear can handle the total rms out put of the amp the amp will also give the ohms and power handling of the speakers connected to it .so you may need to put resistors in parallel with the rear ones to add upto the power out put

New car audio speekers need any recomdations?
[Question]
Hi guys i am new to this form, as I came across this looking for some help. I have Sony MEX-BT3600U head unit installed in my car.
But now im looking at upgradeing the speekers that its connected to as they are the original from a 1996 holden commodore, and im wanting to know if anyone has any recomndations as to what would be the best products to get for a good sound output. (something that will give me good bass) I am looking at getting all Sony speekers im looking at getting:
XS-GTX 1620S - front & Tweeters
Not sure what 6" to get for back any recomndations?
Box 126P5 - sub
and im not sure what amp to get any recomndations?
and with the connection of speekers should I connect the speekers to the amp or run the speekers off the head unit.
Thanks for your help

The XS-GTX 1620S look good. Hook it up to the deck & the subs to the amp.
i got a recommendation...don't use sony!!!
First of all.....Sony is not good!!I mean its not bad but its not good either, though their HU's are good their audio components cannot be compared with brands like JBL, Fosgate, Kicker, Pioneer etc.
1) Ur head unit is OK
2) For the front speakers I'd suggest a JBL GTO608
3) For the rear I'd suggest an 8"JBL GTO-804 i,e if u dnt want huge woofer in ur rear
4)For the amp i'd suggest a JBL GT5-A604
And for the connection's It'd be wise if u cud run all the speakers throug the amp!!!except for the tweeters!
i'd say dont use sony, try to use at least Infinity or kenwood if your on a budget.
here are some suggestions

What are the downside of supplying 150W RMS power to 75W RMS speakers?
[Question]
Hi Everyone
I am just wondering again about the car sound system, I have purchased four INFINITY-KAPPA-652.9i coaxial speakers which has ability to handle 225W Peak Power and 75W RMS @ 2 OHM.
I am planning to match these speakers with Audiobahn A4075HCT amplifier which will generate power of 150W RMS x 4 @ 2 Ohm but I am not sure if that will cause any damage to the speakers?
and
is there any technique to wire these speakers @ 4 ohm instead of 2 ohm?
BTW if I could power it at 4 OHM then the amp will power it at 75W RMS and I don't really understand this statement from the speakers description:
True Four Ohms— All Kappa speakers feature two ohm voice coils. Original factory-installed speaker wiring in many cars is 18-22 gauge. This wire, and heating in the voice coil when power is applied, increase the impedance “seen” by the amplifier or head unit. The impedance of Kappa Speakers has been adjusted to compensate for this increase and can be safely driven by any head unit.

Is it 4 ohm OR 2 ohm ???
[All Answers]
the same as pluging an over voltage to equipment it blows but you could put a resistor of 2 ohm 75w in line( series) with the speakers but it wont give the same power it will dissipatee the over power , ignore peak power it has no real meaning
It will blow them apart - just too much power there for them to handle without damage
you do understand when your volume is at zero you have zero output from the amp. when your volume is maxed out your bass and treble are maxed out, and you have the gain on the amp at 100%, you MIGHT, get 150 X 4
so yes, You can use a larger amp but you have to be a little careful.
I would be like daily driving a 2000hp car. Yes, it is overkill, and you know you can't use it to it's full potential or your going to break stuff.
the amp is the same way. you will have no problems as long as it is set up right.
Oh, and you could wire your speakers in pairs to get 4 ohms... but then you will only be using 2 channels of the amp (not all 4) and you will be splitting that 75 watts between 2 speakers. I would suggest severely overpowering and using discretion WAY more than I would suggest underpowering and then maxing out all the settings to get the volume you want... distortion... heat.... yuckiy....
having a more powerful amp is never a bad thing, just make sure you tune the amp right. if you don't then yeah you will damage the speakers, just turn everything down then little by little turn the gain up until it max's the speakers then you know not to go past that point and adjust it from there down to it sounds best. the adjustment will very depending on your head unit, amp, music you listen to and how loud you listen to it.
