my sub turns off when amp or volume is turned up, but no overheat! now what?

I have a 12 inch audiobahn sub 1100 watt powered with a Alpine 500 watt rms mono amplifier. when i turn on the car, amp light turns on and everything looks good to go. with slightest bass turned up and volume up, sub turns off as if amp was in protection mode. i chek to see if it is hot, and its still room temp. lights do dim when in accessory mode, and when volume is up alot car shuts off. I dont expect the sub to kick like crazy with a mid power amp, but this is a brand new amp and my bass is terrible. What should i do?

The impedance of the sub is probably too low for the amp. I've owned several Alpine amps and none of the were rated below 4 ohms.

Make sure your power and ground wires are big enough and that they are connected correctly. if your ground wire is not directly on the frame (no paint either) it will cut out when the volume is turned up. What size is your power wire? Email me Vvdrumr09@hotmail.com

check the ohm on the speaker with a multimeter.see that its in range, other than that, dunno.sounds like amp is to small. i had 1 do that once, only it made a click sound, but it didnt light up the protect as well. amp was to small for the speakers.it doesnt often happen,but it can.

yes i agree with them but to put it simple to much power you turn it up because you barely here but the subs require more powerwires must be touching now that i read your comment try 14 gauge wire from amp to speaker you can get it from walmart for about 12.95.let me know if that helps or not

u need a cross over...u can set it up so that everything below a certain frequency goes to your sub.....and above goes to the speakers...ofcourse...if the voices contain that frequency range then that part will be sent to your sub too....the speakers cant differenciate between different instruments...only frequency..

set the low pass filter on your amp.



If it doesn't have one then you'll have to use an equalizer or a preamp to cut out the frequencies that you don't want to hear.

You need to purchase or obtain and amplifier that has an electronic low-pass filter (LPF).



Electronic low-pass filters are used to drive subwoofers and other types of loudspeakers, to block high pitches that they can't efficiently broadcast.

well hopefully you have them hooked up to an amp. if so, then check your amps filters, you have a low pass filter (lp) and a high pass filter (hp) make sure it is set on low pass. if thats not the problem then you might have it hooked up wrong. or your amp is messed up.

I have a 2 channel amp that puts out 760 watts at its peak that I can bridge. It's RMS is 380 watts. Is it best to get a subwoofer that can handle around the same total watts (760) and RMS (380)? Which brand is best to buy also. A Sony or Pioneer. I used to have a 10" JL Audio w3, but it was defective past the warranty.

as for which is better. I would choose pioneer over sony, but JL is better then both.

measure the speakers in series with a meter. find the amps then do like 14 times whatever you measured. then mulitply by 4 to get all four speakers. or jsut look on the back of the speaker. usually around 15 to 20 watts
