i prefer alpine to be honest but you have good taste my friend
alpine is higher quality. What you really need to spend the cash on though is a good amplifier, that's crucial.
marilyn chambers is dead
alpine will probably be better

Xplodes are a good kind
Either of those would be fine but there are much better choices out there at that price range. (Buy online for the best deals) However, the install and proper amplification is what you really need to focus on. A properly tuned ported box will get you good output. I am more of an SQ guy myself so I stay with the sealed boxes but I don't really care for booming bass.
better between the two i would say the comps. but, my oppenion rockford fosgates have them all beat for the price.. something else thats a drag remember if you buy new speakers you slowly increase the volume to full throttle over about a 3 day duration and slowly loosen em up. either way you go a good warrenty is a good idea
I have 2 cars. the first one has 2 12in amarican bass XO, and i got 2 pyle 1000watt amps running each one, the sealed box, the 2 subs and the 2 amps cost me $450 thats also including all the wiring and the capasitor. oh and it bumps so hard my girlfriends boobs bounce up and down wene shes outside the car
My second car has one JL W7 in a costom built ported box and im using one JL 1000watt amp to run it. that hits so hard that my lug nuts got loose. but that was expensive as hell, it cost me $1300 for that

Curiosity question about subs?
[Question]
Okay so I love driving around and listening to my favorite music. Plenty of songs on my playlist are worthy of max. volume. But it's just out of curiosity that I ask you.. what do you accomplish by spending several thousand dollars on 3 15" subs with amps and all that jazz? I mean for a couple hundred dollars I put speakers in my car that give me crisp high's and window rattling bass. After a certain point it seems that most people are just spending their money for the enjoyment of pissing off others. There is no reason that my windows should be vibrating because some guy 2 blocks in front of me is listening to rap at max. volume. I can understand if your car is a show car and you regularly display it in shows/conventions and what have you. But what really drives some people to exceed decibel levels of a space shuttle launch.. if you look at them they don't give a shit about enjoying their music.. they are just looking back and forth to see how much attention they are drawing to themselves. Sometimes I wonder if they are buying big subs to match their big egos.
Yeah.. I think I'm done ranting now.

Some people are just different. My son had all that and it was only because he liked a lot of Bass. It is a matter of taste. I do know a couple of jerks that do seem to do it just for the attention that they can get.
Well these people give me a pay check every week so gotta love them.
Also they tend to me very out spoken people who like to be noticed a lot. also people do these amazing sound systems for comps.
nice rant, loud bass is fun but it has to be quality sound to be fun, trunk rattling is annoying and sounds poor and today few care if you have bass unless it is good bass and even then you will annoy people.
i have thousands in Equipment and beyond that i used several techniques to sound dead the vehicle so when the system is cranked and the door are closed & the windows up you would never know how loud it is.
face it people rattling sheet metal is not sexy or cool but bass you can feel and not hear so much is more impressive and you are right people care not about sound quality, they just grab out a bass heavy cd after they start their car and hit the road seeing who notices.
i have gotten into stop light battles with others but i only have 2 10's but the mids-n-highs with the windows rolled down say sound quality vs. look at me, i think it is a default win if you can hear any rattling metal from the other car.
i listen to music in my garage often and you can hear what the music producers wanted you to hear and with bass over load you just cannot see what your favorite music can do.
i have listened to $80k. home systems and yes it is an experience and yes the bass is fun but the mids and highs paint a picture, you can see where every musician and sound is, how sounds come in and fade out.
there has been a battle between bass heads and so called tweakers but clean detailed and loud is better then boomy.

Some of those high school kids are Audiophiles in the making. And some will sort your mail for a living.
But if you want nice stuff (stereos included) isn't the point to get the best?
The best isn't usually the loudest, but for someone like you, it'd be impossible to tell the difference sitting next to him at a red light.
I'd suggest sitting back and enjoying the vibration. Take note of all the stuff in your car that's rattling. You might actually be impressed with the science and money behind it.
Then you can go home and nap.
I think you're exactly right

underbody lighting on a ford focus?
[Question]
i have a white 2005 ford focus zx3. it has dark black tinted windows, and i plan on getting black hubcaps. i would also like to get led or neon underbody lights on my car. most likely green, i was just wonderin if that would look good.
[All Answers]
Yes, that would look good. Especially to car prowlers who need to identify the cars with the nicest stereo's.
It would look good, although you have a ford focus. it's a pile.. =)
That underglow stuff is pretty lame, dude. I have to say. I appreciate wanting to do up your car to get noticed and look sweet, but please consider the following...
It looks cheap.
Noone over the age of 17 will think it is sweet.
It's a cop magnet. It will probably break.
Someone might steal the set, not knowing that there's a transformer under the hood that you need to run it, and in that case, neither of you will have underglow lights.
You won't get any respect from dudes who take cars seriously...
Why don't you save the $120, or however much it costs these days, and buy platinum spark plugs, a cold air intake filter and take your girlfriend out for dinner.
Save up for rims too. hub caps don't fool anyone.
Not trying to rain on yourparade, just tryin to get you started in the right train of mind.
Oh, and de-badging (no emblems) your car can be done for free. Got a blow dryer?

Should i install my 2 sets of speakers, amps, and one subwoofer myself?
[Question]
I have A set of component speakers, a set of coaxial speakers, two amplifiers and one bazooka tube subwoofer that i want installed into my car, and i am actually thinking about hooking this stuff up myself.
Taking into account the level of difficulty and possibility of destroying the equipment, should i try to do this?
How difficult is it? What will i need, and how long will this take?
If its not worth doing myself, let me know. I just don't want to pay 250 dollars for something that i could simply do myself
[All Answers]
It would save a good bit of money
Sure, you can do it yourself. Absolutely. I hate paying others to do things that I can learn and have fun doing.
One thing to remember though, is if your equipment is brand new from the store, and you end up blowing your speakers or amp or deck, you can't return it if you installed it yourself. You'll need a receipt saying it was installed by a dealer or a trained shop employee.
So just don't break anything ;)
1. Disconnect your positive battery terminal from the battery (every time!) before you start working.
2. If your gear is old, search the web for wiring diagrams. You can pretty much find any diagram out there (ignore pay-sites, it's a hustle, you'll find it for free if you keep looking.)
3. Wire cutter, wire strpper, electrical tape (plastic couplers if you wanna do a nice job) and a crimper.
Go to town. It's basic. Find your wires, use the right gauge wire, follow your diagram.
Oh, and I'd put a 'fusible link' under the hood, somewhere along the positive power wire that leads to your amp. If your car F's up, or you get a boost from someone, it could save your amp from being fried.
You can do the mono or 2 channel amp yourself and the coaxial speakers, but the components are a little bit tougher if your car doesn't already have tweeters, if you want it to look good (otherwise you can just lay them or hang them somewhere. If you were to get anything installed professionally, get the 4 channel done. you have 2 options, running new speaker wire around the car to each speaker, or to run speaker wire up to the radio and connect the speaker wire to the car side of the wire harness (this takes less time). If you do it all yourself, get at least this thing called speedwire, its insulated and has all the speaker wires for a 4 channel amp and makes things also go quicker.

Speakers 500 or 400 Watts amp??
[Question]
I have 2 amps one that has 500 in 2 channels that is 250 in each and another amplifier that is 400 watts 4 channels i an planin in using one of those witch is better if i connet 2 speakers to the 500 wat or 4 speakers in the 400 wats.
[All Answers]
If you own em both, use em both.
Use the 4-channel amp on teh larger set of speakers, and bridge the channels.
Use the 2-channel on the smaller set.
If not, both amps will be loud either way. Use whichever one you think won't blow first :)
The real question is, whats the current RMS on the speakers, and the amp's and at what ohms on the speakers and amps.
