My car speakers died! help!?
[Question]
Last night my radio was acting funny, the screen on it would turn off, and the sound would die, but it would be on still i could push buttons on it and still hear beeping. I would have to turn it off and then turn it back on and it would work again for like 5 minutes then the same thing would happen. Anyone have any clue as to why it's doing this?
Ive never had any problems with it before.

your speakers did not die, your radio did. its broken you'll need to get it fix
Next time buy a radio that's not so hi-tech. Jensen makes some nice ones.
get a new radio. check and make sure you didnt just blow a fuse
No. go to the mechanic
It is not a blown fuse if it continues to work. It sounds like the power unit inside the head unit (the radio) is gone. You will have to send it away to be repaired or get a new unit. Normally, a repair takes around 4 months - not a short amount of time to be without music.

Should I get a second battery, a 2.5 farad capacitor or should I be good?
[Question]
This is what I am putting together. This is a everyday driver.
1992 Caprice
200 amp Ohio Generator alternator 7806-200
Kinetik HC1800 under the hood
Alpine IVA-D105
Alpine TUA-T550HD
Alpine DHA-S690
Alpine PND-K3
Audio Control Epicenter
Audio Control Three.1
Kicker SXRC
Kicker SX700.4 (85X4 watts)
Tweeter SS65.2 tweeter only
Mid-Range SS65.2 woofer only
Kicker SX700.4 (175X2 and 85X2 watts)
Mid-Bass SSMB6
Full Range KS693 (two sets)
Kicker SX1250.1 (1250 watts)
Sub S15L72
2110 total watts rms
this is the largest alternator i could find for this car. the high out put alternator site you sent me to, i tried to contact them about a larger alt but they never responded to me so i went with the one i got
the big 3 is done already with 0 gauge wire

I would go with a second battery, especially if you want it to sit and play music for extended periods of time and hope to restart the vehicle afterwards.
should be fine
dont know why you put all that in that car though..
and a battery wont do anything, just put more strain and the alternator
and the capacitor wont do anything either
No caps...A second battery only if you want extended listening time when the car is off. When the car is on a second battery won't be of much benefit and will just put more of a strain on your alternator.
If anything I would recommend a larger alternator. 200A will not be able to fully power all of that. I would save the money you would spend on a second battery/cap and use it to get a larger alternator. That is the source of the electrical power when the car is on so it is the most important upgrade.

Also, you better do the "big 3" upgrade as well.

Good Luck!!!
A capacitor, battery, and alternator all perform different functions - you can't just choose the best one.
An large alternator is needed to generate the largest amount of power - the alternator needs to generate power faster than the stereo uses it so make sure its lots big. (has to run the rest of the vehicle as well) The alternator you have generates 200 A x 12 V = 2400 W max.
A second battery just stores more energy so that the stereo can play twice as long for without the car running. With that system it would not be very long. And if you do listen to it without running the car you may want to consider deep cycle batteries.
Finally a cap reduces the dynamic draw on the battery and alternator - more so the alternator.
For this system the model numbers mean nothing to me - the cap is probably a good idea from looking at those wattages. Battery is not needed in any circumstance unless you are planning on draining the battery you have. The alternator depends on your total system power.

How do i hook up 2 dvc 4ohm subwoofers to the Memphis MOJO 16-MCD4kw Amplifier to 1 ohm?
[Question]
??? it has 2 channels
[All Answers]

looks like a good diagram site
Wire the sub coils in parallel giving you 2ohms per sub then wire subs in parallel to amp giving you a 1ohm load
I am not sure if that amp is 1ohm stable in bridged mode. That would mean it is 1/2ohm stereo stable. However, you could wire each sub to a 2 ohm load (wire both positive terminals together on each speaker, and both negative terminals together) and connect each sub to one amp channel. This configuration would effectively drive the amp as hard as if it were a 1ohm mono load (all positives together, all negatives together wired to one mono amp channel. Most times, if you try to wire your amp into a 1ohm mono load in a bridged state, you will have a very expensive paper weight. And almost all manufacturers won't cover this under warranty. The only amps that are 1ohm stable are usually mono block sub amps. A few high dollar amps have this capability also. But they will ADVERTISE as much. This allows much more power if the amp's output IC's will handle the extremely low ohm load. So wire the subs to a 2ohm load, one to each amp channel, and enjoy! You will be more than satisfied with the sound, if everything is done correctly.

How do you connect a secondary car battery to run your system and other electronics in your vehicle?
[Question]
I want to hook up another battery in the trunk of my car to run my sound system, the underglow and so forth, and I was wondering how I would do that. I know it has to do something with connecting the power and grounds of both batteries and something to that affect, but I'm not 100% sure. If anyone could walk me through it or point me in the right direction of where I could find it that would be great. Thanks. Also, what kind of battery would be best for this situation. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.
[All Answers]
Just install another battery, run the positive to the starter post and the negative to the frame. It will still be 12 volts. To do it wrong and get 24 volts, run the new positive to the old battery negative post [remove the old ground cable] and the new negative to the frame.
go to electronic store or garage where they install devices.
the only reason to hook up another battery in a car is if you want to frequently use alot of power while your cars not running. it will not give you "more power" it will just allow you to use your electronics longer when the car is off. if that's the case it would be beneficial to get 2 of the same batteries. to hook it up you just need to run a thick power wire (at least 4 gauge) from the positive end of your main battery to the positive end of the battery in your trunk then ground the negative end of that battery to the frame in your trunk. if its more power you want then upgrade your alternator.
