Way to hook up ipod to car?
[Question]
I dont have a sound system, special radio or anything like that. I simply just want to hook up my ipod to my car so that i can listen to my music while driving, not the radio that is all fuzzy and doesnt play anything good. I look at a few cords, to hook into my ipod and the cigerette lighter, but they have been so expensive. any ideas on how to do this with out buying those cords? or any places where i can find a cheap one? thanks

no
I would visit a technician.
listen cheap sound equipment is never good and good sound equipment is never cheap, if you get a cheap ipod to Radio transmitter it will be staticy and will fade in and out with out good sound Quality, if you get something a little more pricey then you will be happier
The only two ways I know of our:
1. When you have a special radio with a plug you can get a plus that runs from your ipod straight into your radio. But you must have the special face plate.
2. The FM frequency ones that you scan to a radio station. Those would be the fuzzy ones you refer too.
Never heard of a car lighter except with the FM ones.
So I think you are out of luck with that one
I just Goggled it and I found nothing but expensive cords. So, I guess not.
Get an itrip or similar, thats what I use an it works very well - or you can get a tape adaptor, that goes in your tape deck, has a wire coming out of it and into your ipod.
Or buy a new radio with an ipod dock or mp3 input, they arent expensive anymore.
if you have a headphone jack somewhere in your car you can buy a chord with two headphone jacks on both sides. plug one into your headset and the other into your ipod. if you dont have one of those and have a cassette player you can buy this chord with a tape on one end and a headphone jack on the other...just put the tape in and plug the other end into the ipod.
Buy a headunit thats ipod adaptable. I have a Jensen VM9311TS, and I love it lol if you get that you need a JLink to hook up your ipod...id get a professional to install it if I were you, took me a while to figure out stuff and im actually pretty good with hooking it up...Goodluck
There are tape adapters if your car has a tape player. It may cause some fuzzy noise though. Or if you have an AUXillary input in the car, buy a stereo extension cable to connect your ipod to the AUX input. This method is the best for me because it makes no noise when I'm listening my songs.
What kind of car and what kind of stereo? If you have a cassette player get a cassette adapter at Radio Shack. If your stereo has an auxiliary input just buy the cord,if you have neither one and no other way to physically connect a cord you have to go through a wireless connection like a device that connects to your lighter and tune it to a certain radio station but these devices get interference to avoid this you have to unplug or unscrew your antenna but keep in mind if you do this your radio wont work catching your local radio stations.

Do i need a capacitor?
[Question]
I just installed my new subwoofer in my car and i haven't had any problems with any lights dimming or anything. From what i read they are good to have to keep from draining the battery. I know i need to have .5 farads for every 500 watts. i have a single 10 inch kicker comp pushin 250 watts, but would like to know if adding a capacitor would prevent battery drainage or would it not even do anything?
[All Answers]
It's not needed whatsoever - having a "cap" won't save you from draining a battery. If you have your system on too long without running the engine, you'd run the risk of that, "cap" or no "cap".
unless you're running a $5 car battery from joe's car shack, more than likely you'll be fine without a capacitor for now. you do have the right perspective, though, since the quickest way to tell if you need a capacitor is if your headlights slightly dim when the bass hits. but as of right now, your battery shouldn't drain at all unless of course you frequently have your system on with the engine shut off. once you crank that engine on, its technically no longer feeding off of the battery, but rather the alternator (alternator feeds battery, battery gives to car).
Agree with the answers ahead of me. I think you're fine. If you want a voltage readout i'd say just pick up a digital one to plug into your cigarette lighter (only reason i'd buy a cap is for the readout).
The purpose of the capacitor is to prevent the huge draw from the alternator and battery every time the bass hits. You shouldn't need a cap until you draw 500W with a stock alternator.
With just the setup you have I wouldnt even worry about hooking up a capacitor. You arent really pushin that much power and you only have one amp so I wouldnt bother installing one. If you go to like 2 or more bigger amps for 2 subs and amps for all the speakers in the car you will have to get one.
caps are useless in caraudio.
in order for a cap to work properly you need 20% surplus of power.
always upgrade your electrical system in this order:
1. the big 3
2. a good battery (optima or kinetik)
3. HO alt (if needed)
4. add more batteries (if still needed)
if you notice serious car audio competitors will never use a cap. they use racks of batteries for a reason. besides, for what you spend on a cap, you can easily spend it on upgrading properly. a cap will supply only short your amps. batteries and a good alt. will provide a constant supply to your entire car. also, a cap is useless unless you upgrade your big 3, a good battery and alt. anyways….adding an electrical component to an already struggling electrical system will only make matters worse. if you want to do some research, you can do a search here: http://www.caraudio.com/forum.
but realistically, you'll only need the big 3...probably not even needing to go to step 2.

my sub woofers play but no sound from door speakers?
[Question]
i recently installed two subs and an amp and everything was normal for a while but the other day i turned the volume up past a certain point and the music would cut out, but the sub woofers would continue to play. this was happening in the past so i replaced the head unit, now the same exact thing is happening, so i know that its not my head unit. im just confused because the subs keep playing but the speakers wont, but only after a certain point of volume. so any advice would help. thanks
[All Answers]
i love door speakers
Check the wiring that leads to the speakers up front
cool
try reconnecting the wires to a smaller watted speaker the sub woofers might put out to much boom than your speakers can handle i had the same problem with my'n also make sure the wires arent half apart some wires are touchy
Is the amp connected to the door speakers? I may be wrong but i believe you can NOT use both hookups at the same time on a head unit. If the amp is plugged into the RCAs then you cant/shouldnt use the high level speaker connections at the same time. I would use 2 amps both connected to the head unit RCAs or a single multi channel amp that runs all speakers.
get bigger wire it works. and change the door spekakers

my parents put a tracking system on my car. how do you take it out or turn it off?
[Question]
car gps/tracking systems
[All Answers]
If you removed it or turned it off, they would know that you had done so; therefore negating the point of removing it.
Quite honestly, from a parent's perspective, leave it alone. If they put it in your car, I'm sure there is a reason for it. Besides, if you tell the truth about where you are going and what you are doing, then there really is no reason to turn it off. They are only trying to keep you safe, and in today's time and strange people running around, it isn't necessarily such a bad thing...
Apparently they think you're not trustworthy. Turning it off will only prove that to them. Leave it alone.
wel if you dont go to places you shouldnt then there shouldnt be anything to worry about right so im thinking either they dont trust you to drive or they just wanted to know where their car is which you know it is their car so why not get a job and buy your own car be lucky you have one to drive and not on your bike pedaling
The defiant person would simply just roll in someone else's car. But, if you want to earn your parent's trust - just leave it alone. Messing or tampering with it will just make them trust you that much less.

How will this amp/sub setup work?
[Question]
Im not real savy at this but is this right at all?
I am uprgading from a 2 12" 1200 watt / 1200 watt amp to 3 12" 1200 watt subs / 1200 watt amp. so basically just adding the one sub.
Now the subs are 1200 watts each, but the RMS is 380 on each, this being said...does that mean that with the three sub setup each sub will be recieving the 380 watts?
I ask this because I have had several people tell me that the 3rd sub will make a nice difference, and some people tell me it will have no effect at all, and some people tell me that it will actually make the overall sound quieter.
If anyone could help me out, please do!
Thanks

the power of ur sub is split up between how ever many subs u have so no they wont recieve the full amount each. it will sound better because now u have 3 subs pushing air around instead of just the 2
visit this website http://automobilesltd.blogspot.com
Give brands and models or it's a guessing game. And max or peak power doesn't matter. Don't post it. But basically even if u had 2 subs get each 400 watts and they were 400 rms then if u added one more sub for a total of three they would each get roughly 260 if thats how the amp worked and they would be underpowered but louder than just the 2.
Your bass should be louder you are adding an extra sub. If the previous subs were 380 rms and you add another 380 rms sub to that it should be louder. You will feel the difference.
If your subs are single voicecoil then it is not possible to wire them properly with a single amp unless they are in series giving a 12 ohm load - no good. You need an even number of subs to have a proper hookup. Otherwise a parallel setup causes an unbalanced load and can fry the amp or blow a sub depending on how its hooked up.
