amp to factory radio?
[Question]
I know it can be done because a guy I worked with at goodyear had a 99 explorer w/ 2 amps and 3 subs to the factory 6 disc changer. I have a 03 protege w/ a 6 disc changer and want to install a amp but I want to keep the factory look because I live in a bad area. I've installed radios before so explain how to do and I shouldn't have a problem. Thanks

you cant unless their are rca jacks in the back of the radio or if you have a disc changer and their are rca jacks for an amp back their
Well is what you need is a cd player that has multiple rca jacks. Those are the red and white wires. you could also use a splitter but you might lose some quality not to sure. Take your cd player out and look for those red and white hook ups. a lot of stock cd players don't have those connections. For the amps, all that an amp needs is a power source, and rem hook up which tells it when to turn off and on and the rca hook ups. But two amps will kill your battery in minutes. you will need to but an farad so your lights don't dim every time your bass hits real hard.
Big tip buy some midrange speakers. all bass no sound is no good.
you just need a converter.this is an easy thing to get here is a link.i recommend the jl audio or rockford fosgate.hope this helps

What does a crossovers do for speakers. What are they for and how do they work?
[Question]
[All Answers]
crossovers take the frequencies that pass through it and make them go to specific speakers. so for example you won't hear bass on the midrange and tweeter at the same time.
You'll hear bass only on the woofer.
it gives much better clarity with them. Get active x-overs, the passive ones don't always respond as fast.
this isn't really an answer but hey eric where can you buy crossovers and are they expensive?
A crossover is a filter that will pass audio signal. This is what separates highs, lows, mids. You get a much cleaner sound than with passive crossovers, (built into speaker) it takes a separate amp to power highs and bass.

What amp should I get for theses subs?
[Question]
Two 12" 1000 watt ea. JBL GT4-12 subs.
[All Answers]
i would use a monoblock amp which means it has all power to one channel, get 2 x 250 watt rms monoblocks and run independently from deck ( providing you have duel or multi RCA output ) if you only have single RCA output from deck ( just one set of left and right channel ) then just get a 500 watt rms monoblock amp and bridge into to both subs.... you could also get a 2 x channel amp and just run a channel to each sub obviously but i would stick with a mono... be careful when purchasing your amp though, MAX power output is not the RMS output, big difference, be sure to read the box or ask what the RMS output is... alot of amps that say 1000 watt max power are actually about 400 - 600 watt RMS power... RMS power is the real power of a amp ( so too speak ), MAX power is more of a sales ploy... another simple way to tell is to see the amount and size of fuses the amps has, for 1000 watt rms it should have atleast 2 x 30a fuses, my 3000W amp has 4 x 50a fuses.. i have 2 x 12" and 3 x 10" subs, 2 x 3000W monos and 1 x 1000W amps and 2 x 1.4 frared capacitors, 3 x truck batteries and i competed and won the Strathfield Car radios DB champ last year.... gees, look at all this, i better submit.. anyways, good luck wit it all..
The subs are single voice coil, 4 ohm subs - despite what the power ratings says on the cone, they are 250W RMS subs.
Find a good Class D, mono amp that does 500W x 1 at a 2 ohm impedance. Tons of them in the market - just find a good, reputable brand and you should be good to go.
You have another question, saying they are GT2-12. Which are they? Either way, they are 250 RMS each. Ignore peak numbers and always go by RMS numbers.

can you hook up two amps to on e speaker?
[Question]
can you hook two amps to one speaker? One on each coil of the speaker??
[All Answers]
Its possible.. but you have to have the same exact amp. never try it before.
Yes . You can.
Check if the speaker can take the total output of the two amps that you are planning to connect. But is the input to the two ams from the same source?
I suggest you don't do that since you may blow it, just sell them both and get one more powerful amp.
