it sounds like you got a bad ground. if its a bad ground is almost like a whisltle sound and it idles with the engine. if you give it some gas the whisltle gets louder. if this is your symtoms check your ground bro.

more than likely, or should i say hopefully, you ran your RCA cables for your subs right next to your power cable. or the power cable may be running under the amp or near the RCA at any point. if it does that its probably real big, real cheap or broken. id suggest using a junk preamp when you hook it up and dont touch the damn thing except with the back of your hand first.also if its for guitar wear rubber soled shoes. i had an experience with a fender and no shoes, i didnt know if id outlive the smoking amp.true.sounds like its either a 100 amp plus and thats = to any 300 watt electronic rigg.

Yep. Tubes have electric heating coils inside; That's what you see in the dark - The warm glow of tubes, not the cold stare of a transistor. The glass envelope of a vacuum tube will burn your fingers.

Why won't my MP3 player/CDs play though my subwoofer but the radio will.?

I just hooked up mtx thunder 5500 subs with a mtx 2301 amp. I have an after market sony radio in my 2001 Hyundai sonata. The radio has an auxiliary input and a CD player. Whenever i cut the radio on, the subs have no problem working, but once i switch my source to either an mp3 player or CD the amp shuts off. What is the problem?

the problem is in the deck. i don't know much about sony decks but there might be a setting to turn the subs on. otherwise your deck is probably shot.

It could be a problem with your wiring system. Take your car by a place like best buy or some car audio place, tell them what the problem is, leave it for them to investigate, and then see what they say.

you hooked the remote turn on wire to the wrong wire at the deck, it needs to be hooked up to the blue/white wire not the solid blue wire.

I agree with carshopcarman. It sounds like you have the remote turn out wire connected to the solid blue wire. This wire is used to activate a power antenna when the radio is on, so when you change over to cd/mp3 it cuts power to the blue wire (would be lowering the antenna). Switch it over to the blue and white wire and see if that fixes the problem.

Are there different KINDS of 8 gauge wire? I know I need 8 ga. to wire up my speakers all at 100 watts rms. I went to Menards and picked up 100 ft of 8 ga wire, and it's a lot thinner than the 8 gauge on my amp wiring kit. What's up with this?



Okay, this is what the box from Menards says: 8 GA (8.37 mm2) Strand. It's 8 AWG. 600 volts. And it actually does say "for use as appliance wiring material... But i figured 8 gauge is 8 gauge...

Ton Lock, you're right. It is composed up of solid wires. They're not as fine as normal speaker wire. It's not composed of 2 or 3, it's 13... But they're still big enough to count.
I'm sorry if I confused any of you with the lack of detail that I have. What I need the wire for is coming FROM the amp TO the speaker its self. I have a 4 gauge amp wiring kit for my amp already. There is going to be 100 watts RMS flowing through the wire, and 300 peak. I know for a fact that I need 8 gauge wire for this setup. I just need to know if I have a wrong type of 8 gauge...
