Good enough battery for car audio system?
[Question]
I currently have a system that puts out around 500 RMS watts (2 Rockford Fosgate P2's) andi have it running off of a Mopar 60 series car battery and a 1 farad capacitor. I'm going to upgrade my car audio system and put in a system putting out around 1500 RMS watts. Will I have to upgrade my car battery along with my system? Or will a higher farad capacitor be fine?
[All Answers]
You will be fine as long as you dont play your music alot with your car off.
dont.worry.about.the.battery
or.capacitor
you.need.a.bigger.alternator
you will NEED both a better battery and a higher capacitor. get a 3F cap, the more farads you have the better. if your going with a high performance system, you should run its own battery for the sounds. if you run it to your cars battery, you can mess up your alternator. you can go with an oddessey or optima yellow top battery. good luck

How do i install a subwoofer?
[Question]
i dont know how it works, i have already got to 6x9s in the parcel shelf.
but i got this jbl sub of a mate, no wires or anthing.
what do i connect it to and how? what do i need?
[All Answers]
check out crutchfield's website. It will give you the step by step instructions.
You need a box to put it in, an amp to drive the sub, wiring kit and splicing of the head unit for remote wire. If its a factory unit then you also will need an inline converter.
You need
1. Box
2. Amp
3. Wiring Kit
Honestly considering your lack of knowledge id say go get someone to help you.

You should check your speakers to see how much they can handle. Go with sony xplod.

Car Stereo Head Units !!!!HELP!!!!?
[Question]
I have been putting together a car stereo system for the last month. Right now I have a JL 12W7-3, a JL 1000/1 amp, a JL 300/4 amp and alpine speakers. I am stuck on what kind of head unit to get. I have been reading reviews and have been trying to find the head unit that will allow these components to work up to their full potential. I am just looking for any advise you have about head units whether it me certain models, certain brands, or just things to look for when buying a head unit.
[All Answers]
I'm partial to Pioneer Premiere head units. All the ones I've used have front, rear, and sub RCAs, equalizer, and crossover which is handy for quick tuning on the fly. They have also been solid in the durability department.
I would get the alpine cda-9886. Though I'm not as sold on the new alpine models over the old ones, the alpines are still pretty good against today's competion. If you want to go with the oldmodel alpines, you can go for the 9855, 9835, 7998, but you will only find these on ebay. If you can find one for around $130 to $180 Id grab it quick. If youre low on budget, Id look at some kenwood models or some JVCs. JVCs are the real bang for the bucks they have good quality sound and great prices, some also have an HD radio tuner built in. I havent tried Kenwood personally but Ive heard it at Best Buy and their also good quality. Id stay away from the Sonys, Pioneers, Duals.....etc..etc. They always say ypu get what you pay for. I installed a sony for a friend with some alpine type r speakers and he comes back to me the next day and complains about the bass being gone (he didnt have a sub). So I returned the sony and got the alpine 9884, and when i installed it, the bass was so strong that the rear panels that the speakers were bolted on started rattling along with the trunk. I guess sonys are only good if you have a sub, but that shows that alpine can bring out the best in your speakers even if youdont have a sub. The JVCs also sound good and they have a 2DIN model that will fit your car better if you have a 2DIN slot (XG-700 or XG500) It really depends on your budget. Is avoid pioneers at all cost. They have good sounding Head Units but its the upper end models. Their lower end model sound like sonys. The problem is, that the upper end models are priced in the vicinity of some good alpine models, so why would you go with pioneers if its the same price as alpines. Hope this helps
