A sub is a kind of speaker.

Subs are used for low frequency sounds.

Tweeters are used for high frequency sounds.

Mid ranges are used for middle sounds.

Speakers are for midrange (voice, most frequencies)

A subwoofer is a speaker, it is just a type of speaker. here is an easy way to understand it. Think of dogs ok you have doberman, german sheppards,labs, boxers,terriers and all the other species of dogs out there but they are all dogs. Same goes for speakers there are subwoofers, coaxial, component sets, tweeters they are all speakers. Subwoofers handle the lower sounds or frequencies, like your bass usually from 20 hertz to 250 hertz. coaxial and component sets is a set of speakers where there are usually 2 or more speakers that cover a range anywhere from 100hertz to up to 32 000 or more hertz. Tweeters handle the higher pitched sounds i think somewhere around 2 000 hertz give or take a few. hope this helps out.

Sub woofers are meant mainly for low frequency sound below 250hz. Good speakers usually have a range of around 50-20,000hz. Although they can hit the low(50hz) notes, it isn't going to give you the best bass. A subwoofer doesn't need to play anything but the bass so it hits the note hard and then continues to ring out without dying out like a speaker would. If you want some great bass get a subwoofer, but seeing as your not an audio genius it would probubly cost atleast $200 for an OK sub and box and then the amp would be atleast $100 for a good one. Then 2 hour installation would cost you another $100 depending on your shop and car. So an ok sub would cost $400. You can get 4 good speakers for $150 and easily install them yourself.

Is there a difference in the sound quality when connecting an ipod to the car deck?

im currently using a 3.5mil aux cord but when i connect to my deck, it seems to only play in mono. im assuming this is just the cord and wish to replace it. im wondering if there would be in increase in sound quality if i get one of the cords that jacks into the back of the deck (via RCA cables) or would there be no difference if i stuck with the aux cord?

actually i think there is when i plug one of my ipods into the aux cord the volume sounds lower but when i plug one into the ipod cord it comes out real nice

It would not make a difference. When running sounds through your aux it plays in mono. I tried and my subwoofers wont even play when I connect mine to my car deck. I know it sucks that is the reason why I bought a mp3 cdplayer in order to fit about 130 songs on a cd-r.

Radio and clock shut off?

Greetings everyone, yesterday while driving my radio randomly stopped working it just shut off and my clock display. I have a 94 Acura Integra I havent checked what the problem could be because it seemed so weird. I was just playing a CD and then all of a sudden the deck went down and my clock display on my dashboard stop showing. any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

start with the simpliest soilution by of course checking the fuse for the radio if its blown replace it. If that fixes the problem great. If it happens again you may have to do more work like checking for a short behind the stereo.

Same thing happened to me. You might have to run wires from your trunk depending on what car you have. Thats what happened to me. After crimping about 10 wires I had to un-crimp them and have it proffesionally installed.

instead of cutting the wiring harness from the old stereo when taking it out. Try finding an audio store in your city and purchase a wiring harness. They cost between 7-20 dollars depending on the car. If you do that you will always be able to put the old stereo back in the car if you decide to sell it. Also the wiring harness will have all the colors that you need all ready to go.
