Precautions with a new subwoofer?
[Question]
hi,
i am going to get a couple of new subwoofers. just wandering if i could get some precautions with having a new subwoofer. what i mean by this is breaking the subwoofer in and stuff. i always here people say they cant turn there radio up to high yet cause they haven't broke in there subs yet. so hwhats a good way to break in a subwoofer. and any other things i should do.
[All Answers]
Breaking in a new sub woofer means you can only play it at RMS level for 2 weeks.
People like to push speakers to peak to show them off for like 20 seconds to a minute.
I would just leave them at there RMS forever. If you want louder bass upgrade your system plain and simple.
*its to keep people from blowing them right away LOL*
There is no break-in. Fifty years ago, high-end equipment with vacuum tubes needed to burn-in the tubes for a short period. Put the legend to rest for modern stuff. I might use the "break-in" excuse to keep passengers from turning my equipment up higher than I WANTED it to go. Then again, I might not let those kind of folks ride in my car.

Installing Car Stereo?
[Question]
im having a hard time with the ground cable from my car stereo, i tried installing it to the metal brackets but that dont work, what else should i try?
[All Answers]
Well hopefully you stripped the brackets of the paint. You need to be touching direct metal. Use a knife or something to scrape the paint off
try taking it to a stero shop and burgler alarm shop. they specialize in this stuff. let a proffesional do it. only like a hundred bucks ok. can you swing it????

what value fuse do i use for my amp?
[Question]
i have a lightning audio 250 watt 2 channel amp and it has 2 20 amp fuses inside the actual amp, so does that mean i need to use a 40 amp fuse when i connect the power wire to the battery? i feel like if just assume its a 20 amp fuse it will blow right away...but at the same time i dont want to use too large of a fuse if it puts anything at risk.
[All Answers]
Think about it this way if there is a surge of power over 40 amps and you using a 60 amp fuse in your power wire... its going to not break and its gonna bust your fuses on your amp because they are 40 amps so your fuse isnt offering any protection for your amp.
Try to run same value of fuses or as close as possible without going under the fuse value of the amp.
Your using that fuse to protect your investment sitting in the trunk .
Your 250 watt amp is powered by a less than 14 volt power supply. Watts are calculated by amps times volts. You know the volts and you know the watts. That means that normally the amp will draw less than 18 amps. A 20 amp fuse will protect it from bursts above 20 amps and you should be fine under normal operation with it. If you really want to be cautious, try a 15 amp fuse on the power wire unless you plan to run it full power all the time. That can hurt you.

want to get 4 speakers for under $200?
[Question]
its for my 98 toyota corolla the previous owner has speakers held in by zip ties because there the wrong size. some crack head, can i buy some infinity speakers on ebay that are the right size and install them myself?
is it just wiring '?i am good at wiring but i dont know if i need to run new wire or something
[All Answers]
If your using a amp to power the speakers your going to have to run wire for speakers /amp.
If they are running off the headunit then just hook them up to the wires leading back to headunit.
I dont know if you can install them yourself because I dont know what your definition is of " I am good at wiring" is because you dont seem knowlegable about car audio and this is a very basic car audio task.
Get your speakers and try it ... if you cant figure it out youtube has a surplus of videos on how to perform this task.
The stock Corolla speaker will be surprizingly costly. They are good quality for stock considering their size. Infinity speakers that cost only $200 for 4 might not satisfy you. Go to a store that has speakers set up to demonstrate and pick some that are the right size. The wires, hopefully are all the stock wires from the original speakers and can simply be connected to new speakers- and be mindful that polarity is kept consistant. The wires have a plain side and a striped side.
With luck, it could be that the speakers you have are decent, just not installed correctly. If you have them properly mounted there's a chance they may do justice to the stereo. If they're just large cones with dinky 4 oz magnets, you can do better.
