can i test an Amplifier.....?
[Question]
alright i found a used amp i think i want to buy but its seems a little cheap and i wanna make sure it works before pay. JBL 1200.1 i looked it up and it seems good, pretty clean power and not way over rated, its not a Rockford per say but at $85 i cant complain.
the problem is i dont have the subs yet. right now ive got some old school boston 10's. 350w rms so can i test it on them with low volume or is it just going to fry them.
[All Answers]
You should test the amp or get an agreement you can return it if it doesn't work. Be conservative with the speakers- don't hotrod them or they will get fried. Listen for quality, not pressure.
Volume isnt the question.. its the remote gain level ... hook the 1 10 to it and turn gain up to 25% and this shouldnt kill the speaker because at 4 ohms the amp puts out 600 watts rms or 50% of max gain. and at 25% gain its 300 watts ...

what value fuse do i use for my amp?
[Question]
i have a lightning audio 250 watt 2 channel amp and it has 2 20 amp fuses inside the actual amp, so does that mean i need to use a 40 amp fuse when i connect the power wire to the battery? i feel like if just assume its a 20 amp fuse it will blow right away...but at the same time i dont want to use too large of a fuse if it puts anything at risk.
[All Answers]
Think about it this way if there is a surge of power over 40 amps and you using a 60 amp fuse in your power wire... its going to not break and its gonna bust your fuses on your amp because they are 40 amps so your fuse isnt offering any protection for your amp.
Try to run same value of fuses or as close as possible without going under the fuse value of the amp.
Your using that fuse to protect your investment sitting in the trunk .
Your 250 watt amp is powered by a less than 14 volt power supply. Watts are calculated by amps times volts. You know the volts and you know the watts. That means that normally the amp will draw less than 18 amps. A 20 amp fuse will protect it from bursts above 20 amps and you should be fine under normal operation with it. If you really want to be cautious, try a 15 amp fuse on the power wire unless you plan to run it full power all the time. That can hurt you.

want to get 4 speakers for under $200?
[Question]
its for my 98 toyota corolla the previous owner has speakers held in by zip ties because there the wrong size. some crack head, can i buy some infinity speakers on ebay that are the right size and install them myself?
is it just wiring '?i am good at wiring but i dont know if i need to run new wire or something
[All Answers]
If your using a amp to power the speakers your going to have to run wire for speakers /amp.
If they are running off the headunit then just hook them up to the wires leading back to headunit.
I dont know if you can install them yourself because I dont know what your definition is of " I am good at wiring" is because you dont seem knowlegable about car audio and this is a very basic car audio task.
Get your speakers and try it ... if you cant figure it out youtube has a surplus of videos on how to perform this task.
The stock Corolla speaker will be surprizingly costly. They are good quality for stock considering their size. Infinity speakers that cost only $200 for 4 might not satisfy you. Go to a store that has speakers set up to demonstrate and pick some that are the right size. The wires, hopefully are all the stock wires from the original speakers and can simply be connected to new speakers- and be mindful that polarity is kept consistant. The wires have a plain side and a striped side.
With luck, it could be that the speakers you have are decent, just not installed correctly. If you have them properly mounted there's a chance they may do justice to the stereo. If they're just large cones with dinky 4 oz magnets, you can do better.

how to connect my subwoofer to the amplifier?
[Question]
Im running a 10 inch alpine in an enclosure and i have a 2 channel amp that i can bridge the connections to only use one subwoofer...so does it matter if i connect the left or the right subwoofer input to the amp if im going to use the bridged connection? or do i need to use both the left and the right inputs in order to use the bridged output
[All Answers]
The last part gets a yes. If you want a balanced output, you need to start with a balanced input. The left and right channels may play altogether different instruments- it depends on the studio. I would put the bass all center, but, you nerver know what might wind up all left channel or all right channel. Put on some music and listen to just the left side, then listen to just the right side turning the balance all one way or the other. See the difference and imagine boosting just that. You can use the bridged output no matter what you input, but input the whole program, not half of it, if you want to be able to enjoy it.
You amp directions should tell you how to accomplish this. Typically channel 1 should be the main channel when bridging so RCAS to channel 1.
