Are XXX subwoofers good?
[Question]
I am thinking of buying a XXX Dual 12-inch subwoofer/amplifier complete kit and i was wondering if anyone has heard these subs before. if they sound good or what. i have an explorer sport and these are 1200W subs. I don't want anyone telling me what kind of brand i should get. i just want a straight up review. Be honest. And Thanks

haha man dual is a crappy wal mart brand. lol just get some kickers.
Be very leary of "kits" as they often have mismatched equipment. They are on special because they want to get rid of stock, so they bundle what will barely "work" together.
XXX car audio = ultra flea market equipment. Just save up for something better! BTW, they are not 1200 watts. That is a fake peak/max power number used for marketing, to entice newbs into buying the flea market junk.
I've heard of them but never personally heard them. You should factor in price/power with what type of sound "you" want. How much watts are you running. I found that youtube was a big help in selecting a woofer. If it's a good sub than people will have posted vids with them showing off the system. It will take a good ear but you can tell the good subs from the not so good ones.

can i run my 280w 6x9 speakers off a 800w amp or will they blow?
[Question]
does not get played too loud but need new amp for my sub 1200w 400rms and want to know if i can run that and my 6x9 280w speakers off it aswell
[All Answers]
more than likely if you do not blow your eardrums first.it will damage your hearing.
if it really puts out 800 watts rms
they might last for a second then smoke
not too like ly.if its a 2 ch amp no.if its a four ch amp maybe.just depend if you can send a different signal to the 6x9 than the sub gets .the 6x9 cant handle the pwr the subs do .hope this helps
Lets be realistic here for a second. I think you are quoting "peak" or "max" power figures, which mean NOTHING. Just look purely at the RMS.
Also, please use brands and model numbers when asking questions.

are car starters good for your car?
[Question]
[All Answers]
In what way? They are really just a convenience. They can be bad, if you buy a low quality unit, or its installed wrong! I have seen lots installed wrong, or parts failing. I like DEI product myself.
im pretty sure they are better than pushing it to start it so i have to say yes they are great wouldnt have a car that didnt have a starter i hate pushing cars
It's no different than you getting in and starting it.

Why is my amp going in and out of protection?
[Question]
I have two 12inch L7 and a planet audio 1000 class D and when i first turn my amp up when i get in my truck and turn it all the way up it goes in to protection.
[All Answers]
It might be overheating, make sure there's enough free air around it. Also check to make sure the power and ground cables are clean and secure.
It could be you have too low og a load to the amp OR improper gain settings.
The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp for correct power matching and to minmize clipping.
Here is a guide that will help you set the gain correctly http://www.box.net/shared/uchv4dbk88
You'll need a multi-meter (AC voltmeter, $15 from Radio$hack), Microsoft Excel and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3 (test tone included).
If you don't have Excel, you can download (free) OpenOffice by Java (Sun Micro systems) from here to read spreadsheets (and you thought spreadsheets were for business) - http://download.openoffice.org/index.html

youll have that when your amp is overheating..or the gain is set wrong..

pre made firewall holes for wiring amp?
[Question]
i m tryin to wire an amp for my 99 accord lx, and cant seem to find any premade holes within the firewall. and i reall dnt want to drill and holes.that is absolutely last rsort, and even then im hesitant. do you kno any good ways to wire the power cable?
battery is on right side
[All Answers]
If you can't find any grommets, you have no other choice but to drill. Even doing that requires a grommet to be put in place. I have found that Radio$haft has them.
You really dont want to wire it any other way. There should be a factory wire harness that goes through the firewall. If you do have to drill a hole, make sure you start off with a small hole, and you know exactly what is on the other side. Make sure you de-burr the hole and use a rubber grommet to protect the wire from chafing!!!
There is a way... from the underhood the main wiring harness goes into the interior. This harness has a large rubber grommet. Using a razor blade (and with much caution) you can open the grommet to run the amp wire with the existing harness or make a new hole in the grommet.
