would it be dumb to get 4 10" subwoofers?
[Question]
i have a 2002 tahoe
would that be dumb?
[All Answers]
wouldn't be dumb but just don't be surprised if you have bad hearing in a few years
It wouldnt sound bad but 4 12" subs would look and sound better
Actually, it would be pretty nice. What susb are you looking at?
What is your budget? What kind of mucis do you listen too?
Email me and I can help you out if wanted. I run 4 10's myself on 5000 rms. REAL power not over rated crap :)
yeah thats dumb, my buddy has 3 10''s and his spoiler falls off and his rear view mirror falls off and he had to replace the mirror on the 2 outside mirrors just becuase it vibrates entirely to much.--- 2004 toyota celica
No it's not dumb. you have enough space in the back of your truck to where it won't rattle parts in you vehicle, like in a small car for example.
10's sound better anyway, sound quality wise. they have tighter cleaner bass, 12's are louder yes, but don't sound as clean as 10's. check out sound quality audio competition websites and you'll see the pros usually use 10's. if they use 12's they don't use very many. you have enough space and it should sound good, as long as you give them enough power, and INSTALL IT PROPERLY, VERY IMPORTANT.
that would be tight go for it if you want very loud bass, but it will be pricey to install unless your doing it your self. and make sure you wear ear ear plugs lol
it actually might sound better than 2 12"'s
no 10's can be made so that u can fit more of them in a smaller area than a 12 plus the sound better they are easier to find from almost anyplace and well honestly that all i use. but i depends on if u want that deep sounding base or if u want that base that will shake the house 5 blocks away for a deep clean sounding base go with the 10's if u want to wake the cop 3 cities over the 12's

Should I get a vented or sealed Sub Woofer Box?
[Question]
I got a 500 watt 12" subwoofer and i dont know what kind of box i should build
[All Answers]
vented sounds better. makes sure there's no rattle!
for inside use, get a vented box. for ur car use a sealed box. that is what i know, but it may be wrong.
depends on your listening preferences
Vented because has better response than sealed. It doesn't need to be too big.
well ported are really made for powerful subs that hit harder since you only have 1 sub i would go with a seald to hit better sound
What model sub do you have?
It depends on what specific sub you have more then anything else. Some subs work well in sealed and are terrible in ported enclosure and some are the other way around. You can tell this by looking at what the manufacturer recommends.
Most subs produced by major manufacturers work well in both sealed and ported enclosures. In this case you would choose based on what type of sound you are looking for. Sealed enclosures typically give the best sound quality while ported enclosure will give you more output then sealed with a loss in sound quality. This can be a little or major loss depending on the application.
If your sub happens to be the Type-R (it is 500w RMS also) then I would recommend a ported enclosure.
Good Luck!!!
i would go with a ported box! It sounds waaay better.

What would be the best way to replace the cassette player with a CD player in my 1992 Buick Regal?
[Question]
Check out this picture: http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/4665/buickinterior.jpg
The stereo system in my Buick is a little weird because the radio part and the cassette part are in two different pieces. How would I go about replacing the cassette player with an aftermarket CD player? If possible I'd like to leave the radio part where it is and put the CD player where the now non-working cassette player is. The radio is integrated with the antenna so it goes up and down when the radio is either on and off. Really not sure what to do about this - Any help is appreciated!
[All Answers]
Go to a car stereo store! they Usually have free installation and they will have the Dashboard parts to make the installation look really good.
Thats what car stereo stores do. Pro installs.
Avoid the Mob-run stores.I hear they are a problem over there on the East coast.
Just replace the everything.
Your new radio will come with a Blue Acc. wire- it is used for turning the antenna on and off(making it go up and down).
Plus dont forget to buy the Radio install adapter, it will fill the void where the old radio was.
http://www.crutchfield.com/g_112200/Vehicle-specific-Mounting-Kits.html?tp=3121
check this out! you should be able to use it and the harness adapter that fits your car to make installation easy.
dude go to a store or a car shop and have them do it 90% of them install for free so bye ur stero there and let them put it in as keeping the old stero ya u can but it wont look right if ur rolling around with the old shitty stero and a cd player just bye the whole new thing and put an cd changer where the cassette was that will make it look a little better good luck
It is the system that has a little radio panel at the top left of the center console?
If so, leave that there, and remove the cassette and radio unit (box in behind), and install the CD deck where the tape used to be (you will need to cut), or get a mounting kit which will make a seamless install.
Of course you will get the wiring harness adapter kit also.

what is a low pass filter on an amp?
[Question]
you can set mine from 50 to 150 but im not sure what it even is. also i have a subsonic filter that goes from 15 to 40. i have my subs in a sealed box so should i just turn that to 15?
[All Answers]
a low pass filter cuts off sound above a certain frequency. By setting the filter at the correct level, it will reduces some of the boominess that inexperienced car audio people actually like, but high end autoaudiophiles laugh at. Setting the filter higher will allow more sound to pass into the sub. It is the "center" of the "pivot" of the filter.
You didn't give us enough information but you first engineer the subwoofer to the enclosure/crossover network.
You would set your filter at the frequency determined by a function of the cubic inches of the enclusure, the efficieency of the "crossover or rollover (like 12db per octave, 15 db per octave, 18 db per octave, etc", the resonant frequency of the enclosure. The link http://www.ajdesigner.com/ will give you each of the equations you will need. If you don't have all the proper info you wll have to take the opposite track.
If the enclosure manufacturer, driver manufacturer and crossover mfgr didn't give you all the correct data you'll have to take a differnt track and it may cost you some money to send it to a company that will run tests.
The easiest way to set it up is with a digital real time spectrum analyzer. Turn OFF the "loudness button", that is just a mid bass/ treble preamp that actually distorts sound. Run a sweep or play "pink noise". Then set your paragraphic or graphic equalizer so that youe boosts or attenuations are no more than 6db plus or minus.. Then you will play with the low pass filter adjusting the frequency and efficiency to give you as flat performance as possible.
There, you've tuned your audio system
The low pass filter will stop the speaker from playing anything over 50 to 150 hz, I personally set my'n to 120.
The subsonic stop the speaker from playing anything below 15 to 40 hz and is for subs in a ported box to prevent the sub from traveling to far, bottoming out, and damaging the sub. The pressure that builds up inside of a sealed box should stop the speaker from bottoming out as long as you have not made the box to big.
if you have the amp connected to subs turn it to low pass. if u have the amp connected to door speakers (voice) switch to high pass. i personally have my amp set to 63hz
Set the lpf to 80 hz. Your other speakers will play frequencies higher than that. Set the subsonic filter to 30 hz. No lower than 20 hz if you have 15's or bigger. None of your music is going to play that low anyway, and by trying to reproduce some of the noise that gets through or frequencies the sub can't handle, the subs would be playing distortion.
