whats the difference between an amp and sub?
[Question]
[All Answers]
An amplifier does not omit sound. It's like a power generator. All speakers need an amplifier to work. A sub woofer is a speaker, that omits sounds, but in low frequency bass tones. Very different things. Most cars come standard with the speakers and amplifiers you need, but if you are wanting to increase the quality of the sound you may want to upgrade. Go to a place like "Car Toys" and ask them all the questions you have. They'll answer them and show you all the options. They have many amps, speakers, etc. so you can hear and see the differences for yourself.
the amp boost the power of your system and the sub is that big speaker that the bass comes out of
hope this helps :)
The amp is the power source that powers the sub(woofer). The sub is the speaker that produces bass.
An (AMP) Amplifier amplifies the strength of the sound from your stereo to the speaker.
A (SUB) Subwoofer is a speaker that typically is used for bass/low tones.
Amp is an electronic amplification device that provides electronic signal to the speakers.
Sub is a large speaker intended to emit low frequency sound
The sub is the speaker in your car that does a bass sound. It is much larger and must be contained in a box for full sound quality. Some do voice and other sounds but their main purpose is to pump the bass in your car
An amp is what powers that sub. Each sub is rated at so many watts and an amp takes power from your car battery and amps the wattage from the battery to an amount (500Watts for Exp.) and powers the sub because the bass takes a lot more power than a normal speaker

which subs would be better to get that would hit the hardest?
[Question]
should i get 2 12inch pioneer premier 3000watt 1000watt subs or 2 12inch type r's which are 1500watts 500rms which are around the same price as the pioneers just a little cheaper i just want the one with the hardest bang????
[All Answers]
i belive the Alpine not for sure
just try to power which ever u get fully they'll slam...
cuz i got two kenwood 12's and there only bout 120rms Each sooo that is under powering by 280 rms Each
My honest Opinion, I would find some Kicker Squares. They are unbelievably loud. A square has more surface area than a circle therefore more air is being moved.my buddy has 2 15's with only 1000 watts going to them and when the bass hits your eyeballs shake so bad you couldn't drive....
between the 2 the type R is better
I'd go with the Alpine type R's because they can handle up to 750w RMS each even though they're rated at 500w. They will probably hit harder and cost less. The 15" type R's are at 750w RMS and can handle 1000w if you want to step your game up enough. They are great subwoofers.
Give a budget and what amp you have.

Best way to hook up dvc sub?
[Question]
Also what would the resistance be?
What is the best way to hook up a dvc 2 ohm subwoofer to a 2 channel amp?
I'm sorry but that's nice the best answer. best buy is horrible and there is no way I'm gonna let them wreck my amp or sub.
[All Answers]
best buy..80 dollars
It depends on the capability of the amp. If the amp can run at 1 ohm bridged, not likely, then run the coils in parallel. If the amp can't, run the coils in series.
Parallel = Positive from amp to positive on both voice coils, negative from amp to negative on both voice coils.
Series = Positive from amp to positive of one voice coil, negative from amp to negative of second voice coil, wire from the unused negative on the first voice coild to the unused positive on the second voice coil.
To answer your question I need a little more info.
Most 2 Channel amplifiers are stable ( will work well and not overheat or damage the amp ) at 4 ohms when you bridge the amp ( combine the channels to drive one speaker ). That being said most amplifiers in the US use the Left Positive and Right Negative output to achieve this. I would strongly urge you to check the manual for you amp on what the manufacture recommends.
As far as the wiring at the sub, again I want to be sure I understand your description of the sub you are using. The way it reads to me you have a Dual Voice Coil Sub with a nominal resistance of 2 ohms at each coil. If this is correct then you would wire they coils in Series. That is, take the Left Positive and from your amp and connect it to one of the Positive terminals on one of the coils. Then, take the Negative Terminal from the same coil to the other coils Positive Terminal. Finally connect the remaining Negative Terminal from the second coil to the Right Negative output from the amp. This will give you a 4 ohm nominal load at the amp.
I hope this helps and if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

How good are RE audio's subwoofers?
[Question]
Specifically the SX series. I'm thinking of getting two RE audio SX12D4 12" dual 4 ohm subwoofers. Comparing them to MTX T9512-44's (9500's) how good is the SPL and SQ of the RE's? They cost $100 cheaper a piece so I'd be saving $200 all together. Is it worth it and are they better? Any information on this would help, thanks.
[All Answers]
they are crap - they are made in china prison labor camps buy them if you want but you will be justifying repression of millions
The MTX is a stronger better quality sub. Both subs are SPl with higher Fs though. Don't expect a nasty low end sub, because it will lack authority.
RE has gone downhill since it first started. US Amps has killed the line and the rep. HORRIBLE customer Service, the people who work there are dumb as rocks, and yes they are made in China now.
If you want help email me, I know of alot better subs....
lowhz01@yahoo.com
if you like spl and sound quality go with RE if you want just noise go with mtx. have had both. have listened to alot of different subs and RE sound great.
My neighbor has a 10" RE sub and it sounds amazin, i personally don't dig MTX because of the problems my friend has had with they're damn subs, they just didn't sound great compared to my Alpine's but his weren't the best MTX but still the quality was night and day between mine and his, From what i've heard of RE subs their awesome, but everyone has favorites...

solo x 18" sub( 5,000 watts RMS)?
[Question]
What would I need to power this beast?? list the items??????????
[All Answers]
1st, an amp... 5000 watt (you choice, depending on how much you wanna spend)
2nd, an install kit like this http://www.woofersetc.com/p2662/AK5000--Earthquake-USA-5000-watt-amp-install-kit.htm
3rd, a capasitor like this http://www.woofersetc.com/p648/ACAP7P--Audiobahn-1-Farad-24V-Digital-Capacitor.htm
yea..the guy above said exactly wat u need.
u need another 80 for installation
The solo x 18 will not take 5000 rms daily. Will not do it.
As for amp, electrical system and wires you are looking at $2000+.
What is budget for sub and amp? Are you wanting a loud single 18 setup?
