Do Sat Navs cause more problems than they solve, what's your experience of them?
[Question]
[All Answers]
Because I'm old, I rely on maps and memory when I'm driving. I have a sat-nav, although I use it mainly as a toy.
At the back of my house there is a track servicing the garages. After a few yards it narrows down to an overgrown footpath until it meets a side road. There are bollards to stop people from the side road from driving onto the footpath. My sat-nav tells me to turn out of my garage, drive along the footpath and go through the bollards. If that's the first 200 metres of the journey, I don't hold up much hope for the rest of it.
Personally do not use one . On the odd occasions I am going somewhere new I look it up on google maps , get exact routes etc. even see where car park /entrance is .
They can cause problems if not used properly as they are not perfect but the main reason I have them is for speed camera locations - that makes them worth every penny and the faults are forgivable
They can cause some problems. I have experienced it telling me to turn when it is too late and ended up on a slip road to the motorway. they're not perfect, you need to keep your eyes solely on the road sometimes and try to obey the sat navs audio instructions, which aren't always correct. Maps are Ok for getting to a city but once there, sat navs are invaluable for getting round the one way systems etc to get to where you are going. I am an entertainer and find myself trying to find the remotest of places, could not be without one, as in the past I have wasted amounts of fuel going up and down the same streets trying to find a place, and I could guarantee on asking someone they'd say, "sorry I don't come from here"
I think so , a guy near me drove up a foot path the other day until he was forced to stop as he hit the wall while following his sat nav OK the poor idiot was on his mobile phone at the time so he could not see where he was going, God know what will happen when some one figures out how to get the satnav to drive the damned car lIke an auto pilot. By the way I live in Switzerland so I can tell you that the problem is not just in GB. There are idiots every where
I find mine is great for finding addresses by post code.
It needs to be used with help from common sense.
I have been directed the wrong way on a one way street and along a stream in a village, fortunately I don't follow instructions blindly.
Overall it's an asset, a good piece of kit!

I have an old car, im 17 and i want a really good soundsystem?
[Question]
im not sure if i can get a good soundsystem in my nissan micra 1992 because it may not have the power/electrics good enough to power a bass amp, i also dont know if i can just buy a sterio and it would fit! HELP PLEASE
[All Answers]
Check out the Crutchfield website. You can find what will fit your car and if you buy it from them, they will include all the wiring harnesses and installation instructions for free.
Dude just go to a stereo shop and the sales person will explain everything you need, but be sure to be weary don't just eat up everything they tell you. Don't be anything after the first visit then go online and and do research.
But usually your going to need a new stereo with rca jacks in the back a dash kit so the the stereo fits in your dash a wiring harness so you can wire the stereo into the factory plugs if you want some kind of mp3 player or ipod connection so you can play music off of your ipod and thats just the stereo.
If you want bass then you need a subwoofer but to power a subwoofer you need an amp and then you also need wiring for the amp.
If you speakers sound like shit then you can get new speakers as well, different cars have different size speakers so just ask a sales rep what size you need for your car. Then if you really want to top things off you can also get an amp for the speakers but again you will need wiring for the amp as well.
anyways that's just really brief you sould do research.
also check out this website, it has lots of good info
www.the12volt.com
Somethingtotry is half right, use crutchfield to see what will fit and what will not, but do not buy anything from them unless you want to get ripped off because they will charge you more than your local shops will charger your for the same exact equipment. If you unsure of your cars electrical charging system the do the big 3 while your at it.
1) Battery negative post to chassis ground
2) Battery positive to alternator
3) Engine block strap to chassis ground
You will need 10 - 15 feet of 0 or 2 gauge power wire to do this, either gauge of wire will be sufficient to use.
After you know what will and what will not fit into your car go to your local shops and listen to different sets of speakers. Find what sounds good to your ears, not what people say to get.
I would say don't buy from crutchfield because you will pay retail for there product but they do have the best customer service, if you go to car audio shop they will help and some will try get you buy what they like, if i was you i would listen to some of there products then go home and research it up but be sure they are good shop because i heard some bad shop story.
I can help you if wanted. Email me direct and I will see what you can do.

how to hook up a black light in my car?
[Question]
i have a home black light that i want to put in my car but i dont want to buy a cig lighter adapter. is there anyway of just wiring it into my car somehow?
[All Answers]
You cant do it because it isnt legal in the united states i think... im not completely sure but i think that it isnt legal, because i have a pontiac trans am fire bird special edition 1988, and i put alot of time and money into it and i wanted a black light and they didnt let me have one, so put like a neon green light or somethin pimp in it
Since you don't want to buy an inverter then not really. The best way would be to use a 12 volt fixture or to use an inverter. Remember that a car runs on 12volt not 110 so you will need to convert the 12 volt to 110 ac voltage that's where the inverter comes in. Not sure about it being legal or not I just remember that when I was in a mini truck club the president had a black light in his truck and they never bothered him about it. To be sure ask a cop in your town
As long as you get a 12 volt light, all of the needed transformers will be built in or hard wired in line. This kit, http://www.all-neon-car-lights.com/blacklight-led-glostix-tube.html can be used with a cig lighter or it can be hard wired to a 12 volt source.
The installation is pretty simple. It's just a 2 wire installation. First you will need to find a 12 volt source to splice into. The back of the cig lighter and the fuse panel are the two easiest in the car. Next, mount the tube where you want it. Then, run the negative wire to the closest ground. Run the positive wire to a switch. Then, from the switch to the source. Viola!, you're done.
you will still need a power inverter
you can hardwire it to a fused 12volt wire from the battery
PAY NO MIND TO THESE BOZO'S LEGAL ILLEGAL WHO CARES. THIS IS WHAT YOU DO....
1) AUTOZONE BUY IN-LINE FUSE, 12V POWER WIRE, AND KILL SWITCH (ON/OFF).
2) POWER WIRE STRAIGHT TO BATT. CONNECT IN-LINE FUSE NO FURTHER THAN 3 INCHES AWAY FROM BATTERY THEN THE 12V POWER CABLE TO ONE SIDE OF KILL SWITCK THEN POSITVE CABLE WHICH IS PROB WHITE ON THE LIGHT TO OTHER SIDE OF KILL SWITCH. NEG. WIRE ON LIGHT TO A GROUND.
FROM THERE TURN ON ENJOY SEE A COP TURN OFF AND CHUCKLE AH HA THERE U R MY FRIEND
dONT LISTEN TO JMANN U DNT WANT TO SPLICE INTO ANY WIRES UNDER THE DASH CAN CAUSE SERIOUS PROB. IF DONE INCORRECTLY.

Can you plz explain whats the difference between 2&4 channel amplifier?
[Question]
im trying to put a system together for my ford f150,i just want to run 2 12'' speakers, and how much should the amplifier be in terms of watts...im not really sure what i need though? any advice who be appreciated.thx im trying to buy most of it online to save money...
[All Answers]
A 2 channel amp supplies power to only two things like your two subs. A 4 channel supplies power to 4 things like the car speakers. The watts would be determined by what the subs can handle.
2 channel works for 2 speakers; a 4 for 4 speakers
With a 2 channel amp you can run 2 speakers and with a 4 channel you can run 4. Get it? The watts you need depends on the amount of power the speakers can handle. Make shure you pay attention to max watts and RMS watts. Max watts are deceiving RMS shows normal handling power. Hope this helps and good luck!!!
2 channel = 2 speakers
4 channel = 4 speakers
