My front car speakers are very quiet. I replaced the speakers and the new ones are quiet. Whats the deal??
[Question]
I drive a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and my front stock speakers were very quiet. Thinking it was the speakers I bought and installed some new speakers. Those speakers are now quiet and I don't know what the deal is. I understand its probably wiring, but where? It's quite frustrating!

Adjust the "fader" on your stereo.
Count your blessings!
Check the fader and balance. They're usually controlled through the menu on the radio where you set the bass, treble, etc.
Consult your manual if you don't know how to set them.
possibly exposed wires touching or rubbing against each other, if you check the connection and everything is sound then it's more than likely your deck is junk some jeeps come with a deck that has a built in amp, the amp could possibly be blown...AND don't forget to check the fader and balance.
It could be the fader.. But also could be the wiring the goes from the stereo to the speakers. First them check that. And if that aint the problem. Bring it to a stereo store and they have something to check the wiring to make sure that is good. Hope this is help to you. ..

Car - ipod connector.?
[Question]
Helloooo.
I just bought a new car and want to be able to listen to my ipod through it. I found a load of websites selling what I think is the connecting wire from cigarette lighter to ipod but I don't really trust any of them.
So is there anyone who can recommend one of these?
p.s I have a ipod touch - one site said the "new" ipod but that could mean anything considered how often they are re-released.
Thanks.

They are very low power radio transmitters. Some do a decent job and some perform poorly, drifting off frequency or needing to be kept in one specific orientation.
This really depends on how your stereo is set up. Does it have an AUX jack? If so, all you need is a stereo cable, you can get em for $5. Plug one side into the stereo, and the other into the headphone jack and you are good to go.
This is the best quality you can get (if your car stereo isn't designed for iPod use specifically). The others will give you a noticable decrease in quality, but they work.
If you have a tape deck, then you can use a cassette adapter. Not horribly expensive and they don't require power to run. And they sound ok.
The last option doesn't sound as great, but it's also the most flexible since it works in any situation. An FM transmitter. The transmitter runs off of power, either batteries or cig-lighter outlet, and broadcasts the "headphone" signal from the iPod into the air, and you just tune your radio to that frequency. It sounds like well..radio. and it's highly prone to signal interference.Definitely not my favorite, but if you don't have a jack, or a deck, or can't spring money for a higher end stereo head unit, this is your only option.
The cigarette lighter adaptor is for power only NOT sound so will not allow you to listen to it through the car radio.
There are lots of Ipod versions and they are doing new types regularly.
You need an FM transmitter type, I pod plugs into it and then it plays through a radio frequency and you tune to it as if it is a radio station. This type may well have a connector to the cigarette lighter to power it.
Just buy a new car deck with the USB conector or with a 3.5mm. good luck
If your radio has an auxilliary input, which looks exactly like any headphone jack, all you need to do is buy a 3.5mm connector cable. If it doesnt, DO NOT buy an FM Transmitter, whether its an iTrip or the "cigarette lighter" version, cuz they suck. All you need is a Scosche FM modulator. you can buy it here.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142FMMOD02/Scosche-FM-MOD02.html?search=scosche+fm+modulator&tp=1701
It uses the same concept as an FM transmitter, except it does it with a wired connection as opposed to transmitting the signal through radio waves like most FM transmitters do. You get perfect quality music from an device (ipod, zune, computer, phone) and it works WITH ANY FACTORY OR AFTERMARKET STEREO that has an antenna jack. So basically if you can listen to the radio, this will work in your car. I expect a best answer

are you wanting them to pulse with the music? if you do, then you will need to find some sort of music interface so that they will pulse with the music. i found one here:
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_MUSIC-INTERFACE-MODULE-OPTX_6250227-P_N3157A_A%7CGRP2044____
if you don't want them to pulse to the music, there are plenty of LED flex light strips that you could use. or you could make your own.
Radio Shack sells LED bulbs and resistors. You can use www.ledcalc.com to find out what resistors you would need and how to wire them.
either way, you will need to hook the positive feed of your led light strands up to constand 12 volt and ground the negative feed to the chassis. also you will need to put a switch in-line between the lights and where you tapped into the 12 volt constant. otherwise the lights won't turn off. you can also wire them into your headlight or parking light switch so that they come on when your headlights or parking lights are on.
Email me if you have any questions.
go to wal mart or something and you can buy little indash lights for like 10 bucks.. they are small and you cans tick them into you speaker no problem.. all you need to to have a little wiring skills... if not just take the dash panel of your car off.. normally comes off with a few bolts or screws.. then just run it through to the back of your head unit and you can run it into yourm pre outs in the back and have it beat with the music
Just buy some round neon 6". I think its 6" round in a civic. Then wire it on a amp that can push youre neon light, Or you can buy neon that you can plug in the lighter that goes with the beat. good luck

after market car products?
[Question]
Has anyone used after market car trim products? Looking to put wood trim on dash, does it stay in place or a waste of money?
[All Answers]
if they are good quality and you prep the surface as they tell you to you should be fine.
A lot of the trim products are essentially stickers(overlays) that you lay over your existing dash. These, I assure you, are a complete waste of money. Typically, within a year you will notice that they will start to begin peeling off. If you plan on getting an aftermarket dash kit, make sure it is a direct replacement, not a modification of, your existing dash.
I bought a pretty expensive wood kit and just didn't like the look of it once installed. The materials were good quality but it just didn't look right. At least with wood trim on factory cars they are molded well and look like they belong there. That is just my opinion though. Oh and if you ever want to take it off, prepare to deal with impossible to remove adhesive all over the place.
