my car keeps cutting out when im driving?
[Question]
my vauxhall meriva cuts out without warning when im driving ,no accelaration and wont restart again unless i open the we plugs under bonnet and restart the engine ,the garage cant fine the fault ,its dangerous
[All Answers]
check the voltage regulator
''unless i open the we plugs under bonnet ''...eh?...
u need another garage to look at it...but the mechanic needs to be driving the car when it fails to have any chance of finding the fault...it may take a while.
possible an elect fuel pump going bad. try to bump the tank when it shuts down. i work as a mech and this seems to be the commion thing todate.
Sound's just like a Microsoft car to me. you need to close all your windows and go through a complete restart, then you can open your windows again and carry on. but be careful it may crash without any explanation. or one day you do a left turn and everything freezes. and nothing works that when you know you've got a Microsoft car.

800 watt sub hooked up to an 800 watt 1 chan amp. What gauge wire do i need? How do i make it sound good?
[Question]
I want to know what gauge wire i need to use and what size fuse is good. I know its not getting all the power it can handle either. The gain an the amp is turned all the way up and the speaker isn't distorted. The sub is in the right sized box as well. What all can I do to make it sound better?
[All Answers]
If you have the thing already hookup and with no problem, there's not anything you can do to make it sound better. To make it sound better,
is at the begining of the purchase and before installation. Picking the right speaker for sound quality and reliability from name brands like JL, JBL, Infinity, Alpine, Boston and same goes with the amps. Demo the product with your own source of music before purchasing. Some after market amps don't live up to the ratings the are saying and that goes to the speaker also.
probably a higher wattage amp, and the thicker your gauge wire is the more power it can handle

Do I need to buy a capacitor if I plan to run 500W RMS?
[Question]
I have a 2008 honda accord...
If i want to put a 500W RMS (1000W max) subwoofer system in, will I need a capacitor to prevent overloading my electrical system? Also, how many watts can I go for without needing to buy a capacitor?
[All Answers]
Depends on if you actually ARE running 500 watts rms.
"In common use, the terms "RMS power" or "watts RMS" are erroneously used to describe average power. A 100 "watt RMS" amplifier can produce a sine-wave of 100 watt average into its load. With music, the total actual power would be less."
That doesn't mean that when you turn on the stereo, that you're instantly at 500.
Think of it like a speedometer on your car. Just because the middle of your speedometer might be 80mph, doesn't mean you'll actually maintain that. Hell, most of your driving might be around 30-40, depending on where you drive.
In terms of stereos, your rms might be 500, but you might actually be around 200-300 most of the time.
My recommendation? Find out how many watts you use on a regular basis, and go from there.
you don't need a cap you will never really need a cap, but i would recommend one for sound quality and for high loads 500 doesn't need one i run way over that and don't have one anymore. but a cap will def help save on your alternator, and battery.

what wires do you need for an amplifier and a subwoofer?
[Question]
[All Answers]
That all depends on the power amp you are purchasing, most amp you purchase will provide instruction on hook up and proper wire gauge to use. Most retail outlet for car audio has wiring kit harness it you decide to do it yourself. Hope this helps.

What do I have to do with mp3/ATRAC CDs to get them to play on my Sony CDX-GT31U ?
[Question]
I bought the CDX-GT31U last month and have some mp3 and ATRAC CDs which I know work fine because they will read and play the music on my Sony CD walkman. Do I have to do anything differently when I cut mp3/ATRAC CDs for the car audio to play them? When I load the CD, it just says "no music" .... Cheers, thank you!
[All Answers]
It should play any MP3 discs - if you're certain the discs are OK, then the unit must be faulty.
make sure there actually written in mp3 format or they wont be seen...some players only like certain discs...also double check after a burn that it ''finalises'' the disc.
