Kicker Kx 1200.1 with 2 12" Alpine Type-R's 2 ohm, to much power?
[Question]
I have a Kicker Kx 1200.1 amp and im looking to get some subs. I was gona get Two 12" Alpine type R's 2 ohm wich are rated at 500w RMS. Is this amp to powerfull for these subs because i herd this amp is underated in power also. My budget for subs is about 300$ i already have a dope sealed box for the 12's and the wireing kit.
THANKS TO ALL WHO HELP
5 STAR ANSWER WILL BE CHOSEN :)
i called a audio shopo and they said i would want the 2 ohm not the 4ohm, so im gona want the 4ohm version then>?

The amp will power the subwoofers just fine. I try to stay with name brands like JL, JBL, Alpine, MTX etc. for quality and reliability when buying car audio product.
just dont crank the gain or bass boost up on the amp and you will be fine. kicker defiently underrates all of their products. my 750.1 channel amp willl put out close to 1000 rms alone..keep in mind
I'd personally go with 2 12" Kicker L5's (600 RMS each), but you'd have to build/buy another enclosure. They shouldn't run more than $300 for the pair. In my opinion, you should get a ported (vent style) box to increase output as well.
look on ebay, you can find very good subs & amps for lees than $300
If you already have the amp then you will need to get the Alpine Type R 4ohm DVC subs so you can wire them in parallel/parallel for a final 1ohm load to get the full wattage out of the amp.
See here how to wire your subs and use option 1.
http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=2&I=42
Because if you buy the 2ohm DVC subs then you will only be able to wire them in series/parallel for a final 2ohm load which will only give 600 watts rms and not the full 1200 watts rms.
Edit,
Yes that is correct,if you are buying two subs then you want the 4ohm DVC version so you can wire your subs to a 1ohm final impedance to be able to get the full wattage out of the amp.
Here is a link to the owners manual and it gives the specs for the different rms power at certain ohm loads,go to page 10.

Is the wire too big?
[Question]
ok i had like 18 gauge wire going from my amp to my 10's and a friend of mine told me that it would sound better with bigger wire so i change the wire to 12 gauge from the amp to the speakers and now the speakers don't work??? what did i do wrong??
i don't know what polarity is??
ahh i got it now but thanks for the advice it now sounds better than ever!!!
[All Answers]
Double-check the polarity - there shouldn't have been anything wrong changing from 18 ga to 12 ga wire.
first of all you should have a professional or someone who knows what they are doing install this for you.
but bigger wire or cables should not affect it
being that it is just speaker wires for audio it should not make much of a difference what size it is from 18 to 12 gauge shouldn't change it that much but that should not matter with subs
also polarity isn't much of a case when hooking up speakers
Verify your connections. Going to a larger cable will not cause problems.
You can verify the polarity by ensuring the positive and negative terminals on your speakers are connected to the correct terminals on your amp.
However, if it were wired correctly but reversed (positive on speaker to negative on amp), it would still work, just out of phase. Think of it as the speaker would pull in when it should push out, and vice versa.
o right polarity is basically which way round it is wired i also agree With the first post changing the size shouldn't make a difference
hope this helps
The 18ga wire was more than ample. U screwed something up when making the change. I would suggest reinstalling the 18ga precisely as it was before U made the change.

car power amplifier blows its fuse?
[Question]
wen i fit in a 20A fuse to my amplifier,it jus blow up my fuse.......where could the problem cum from........if is the transistor in the apm....where should i start......i have sum basic in electronic......i can read circuit diagram.....pls explain in detail...thank you.....

Look for a short somewhere, make sure none of your wires are touching.
Is it supposed to have a 20A fuse? One of my old amps had a 30A fuse, but check to make sure.
If its your fuse on the amp, theres something wrong with the amp and needs to be repaired. Look for something burnt or that smells burnt or go threw with a volt meter check all of the components. It sounds more like a resistor is blown, allot of times they have heat sinks over them and sometimes the sinks fail.
or is it the fuse to the amp and the amp is drawing more then 20 amps.
20A is pretty small for a car amplifier... even lower powered models usually have at least 30A on the fuse.
If that is in fact the right size fuse.... it sounds like the amp might be bad, might have shorted out internally. Try replacing it with another amp and see if the other one works (using the same wiring). If the other amp doesn't work either, then the problem is somewhere in your wiring.
You could try running lengths of wire along the outside of the car just so you can visually see that nothing is wrong with it, then individually hook back up the original wires one by one, to see which wire has the problem.
Do you have an in-line fuse where it is wired to the battery, It will keep the fuse in the amp from blowing! Look at the manual to make sure you have the correct amp fuse in your amp!
Check your wiring, you have a wire cross if it bows when turned on. Also you might be using the wrong fuse, what is the rating of your amp (15 amps = 1800 watts). Or you are diving the amp too hard and prevent it from damage and blowing the fuse. Upgrade the fuse to 25 amps and see what happens.

Difference between Amplifier and Subwoofer?
[Question]
ask the question asks, what is the difference between an Amplifier and a Subwoofer, need it for my car?
10 easy points
[All Answers]
The amplifier's job is to boost the audio signal. The subwoofer is a bass speaker.
A subwoofer give you the louder bass sound etc. and it needs the amplifier to supply it with the extra power it needs to run
a sub is just a giant speaker that can put out bass really good...an amp is what powers a sub...a sub is useless with out an amp and an amp is pretty much useless unless its hooked up to a sub. or other speaker...and no you dont have to have them in your car unless you want them
Subwoofer makes bass, with this you can cut the bass on normal speakers to save them from distorting and thus a much louder and clearer sound. An amplifier is required to run the subwoofer as it generally needs alot more power than your radio can put out. Most amplifiers have a built in adjustable crossover or bass filter, to stop the subwoofer from receiving undesired high frequency from the music. A decent head unit will have direct sub control so you can adjust the gain and cut out frequency from the source.

How to hook up a subwoofer from a 4 preamp reciever?
[Question]
Hello! I had a question about how to hook up a subwoofer while using this deck. Its a 4 preamp output Clarion DB285USB. Right now I have a 4 channel amp that is a Alpine MRP-F300 powering 4 speakers in my 1997 Honda Civic. But I was thinking about getting a mono amp then just one big subwoofer. But do I need to buy a 6 channel preamp output reciever or can I buy some adapters?
Thank you for all of the help!
And if anyone has any recommendations for what kind of subs I should get that would be appericated! And amp! I prefer to purchase off of Crutchfield.com though.
Thanks!
P.S
Nothing to expensive please. Maybe just a step up from entry level?
[All Answers]
With magic.
You should have 3 sets of "red and white" outputs on your deck. 2 sets are for your 4 channel amp and 1 set is for your subwoofer.
If you have the manual for your deck, or if you look on the back of your deck, it should tell you which one is for your subwoofer.
If you will look at the MRP-F300 amp that you have now it has a set of rca outputs on it.
When you buy a sub and a amp you can get a short set of rca cables and plug these into the output of the MRP-F300 and plug them into the rca inputs on the amp you buy for your sub.
And as far as recommending a sub and amp it all depends on how much you want to spend.
