They are very good car audio dealer and sell good brands, but you will pay retail for the items but they are authorized seller of brands and you will get better warranty than other online car audio seller.

I want to buy my boyfriend an Ipod. Here's the problem. He bought an older car that has an am/fm radio with cassette. He wants to be able to listen to more music. I looked at the Ipods and mp3's. What is the difference between the two? I know they have this cassette with a cord coming from it that you put into the cars cassette player and hook to the ipod or mp3, which at the store they told me that was the better sounding way to go. Right now, I am considering the Nano and the Sony walkman. Which one is better? I don't want to spend alot of money because I don't think he will use it very long. Please help. I would like to get it before Father's Day.

the most reliable you could ever get on the internet would be ebay using pay pal. you can see there ratings and how there customers thought they did in the sale and purchase n all. ive used sonic-electronics on the internet. but there ebay store is tight also. type in sonic-electronix into ebay and it will pull up the ebay store. i got a t2000.1bd for under 600 dollars when there reallly like a grand and it was brand new with the birth sheet so i would highly recommend you go to them cuz i cant wait to buy from than again. also woosatech, audio-club, dimensionsaudio, are also good stores from ebay. just dont use hifisoundconnection i had issues with them. there dumb

Oversize 6-1/2" speakers in the doors; most after-market 6-1/2" speakers will fit, though you may need an adapter bracket for some.



The rear speakers are 4x6", and can be VERY difficult to change due to the way the side panels are installed.

[Best Answer]If it's a mono amp worry about your ohms, not your watts. If the amp is capable of a 2 ohm load, you can hook up 2 x 4 ohm speakers with no problem. Your subs are probably 8 ohms which would be fine too.



If it's a stereo amp it's either 1800 x 2 or 900 x2, either way just hook up the new sub to the other channel and run it in stereo instead of bridged.

Amps are designed to be able to hook up a single sub or 2 the only thing you could possible hurt is the subs if ur amp is 2 channel and its bridged with more wattage than it can handle

If you have the stock radio it is very unlikely that you will blow them unless you have the bass turned up but if the radio is aftermarket it is very easy to blow stock speakers.

yes, and im currently trying to learn how to buy the right type to replace mine. a month or so after i bought it the back ones were blown. yesterday, one of my front ones started going pretty bad. it is EXTREMELY easy to blow them if you like your music loud so be careful because its wicked annoying.

Yes it is usually you can't blow out your speakers if you have the stock radio and the stock speakers because the stock radio will not go louder than the speakers can handle however if you purchase an aftermarket Radio but don't buy aftermarket speakers then you may run the risk of blowing out your speaker because the new radio won't have the same restrictions as the stock unit. So if you are planning on upgrading you car audio make sure you speak to a specialist so they can get you the proper set up.

i have a system running 1500 watts rms and i cant really blast it because i do not want to mess up the battery or the alternator. I know about the big three and i only upgraded the three wires. I didnt do the HO alternator and the deep cycle battery cause of money issues. Now in order for me to get my system running at full power without the fear my car will mess up or without upgrading the big three should i purchase a yellow top battery or a capacitor? any help is needed

capacitor is a waste of money. you need a very good name brand battery and a new high output alternator. i know this cause i had a mtx7801- 1,500 watt RMS amplifier on 2 12'' digital designs 2512. when i done this my system beat hard and sounded better......................good luck

Upgrading the Big 3 is going to be the cheapest thing to do out of all of it and it is one thing that you must do to improve your systems efficacy.



A capacitor is not any good if you don't have the voltage to start with, so its always better to get a bigger alternator.



A battery is better to have then a capacitor because its going to put out more because a cap will only do short burst but still if you don't upgrade your alternator your battery is only going to last for a short time before it needs to charge up again and cause unneeded stress on your alternator.



That amp is going pull about 120 amps, so unless you plain on going bigger you don't have to get the biggest alternator, so an alternator that puts out least 150 amps.



You really should upgrade all 3 but start with the alternator and the big 3, should only cost about 200$ to 250$ to do, then get a good yellow top battery that is going to cost another 200$

so i just bought a 95 bmw and i wanted to put my 12s in it the problem im having is i cant tell witch is the - and + wire the wires are blue with like pink and yellow strips now the clips on the end of the wire one is bigger then the other so i looked on the speakers and they dont show the - and + signs either so i wanted to use the volt meeter to tell but i dont think im doing it right does any body know a good way to find out or the right setting for the meeter
i does matter which wire you hook up when your pushing the sound through a 1500 watt amp

Take a volt-meter reading.



The One that says +13.5 volts - is POSITIVE. Mark it.



The one that reads "0" is Negative.



The voltmeter lead that is BLACK is NEGATIVE.

Speakers are driven by an alternating current (in the 10 Hz to 20kHz range), so actually it doesn't matter which way round you connect the speaker wires.

A 12 volt test light should tell you what wire is + and - .Turn your ignition on so that current is flowing through the cars wires. The test light has a sharp needle like end on it. Just punture the wire with this sharp end , if the test light lights up , thats a + wire. It has 12v current running through it. If it doesn't light up its a probably a ground wire.

OK for my setup i have an ALPINE CDA-9853 head unit, I will be running 4EA Cerwin Vega 6X8 in the doors off the alpine and I have lucked out in getting 2 EA PHOENIX GOLD TA MS-1000

i was thinking of getting 2EA 15" KICKER SOLO-X. SINCE they have a massive handling and each have 2 sets of inputs. I have also considered getting 6 ea 10" SOLOBARIC.



I listen to mostly rock and metal and to a little bit of R&B. I have always heard 12" and 15" for rap hip hop and 8" and 10" for rock. I was wondering if this is really true. should I go for more 8 or 10 inch woofers or would 2 15" be good since I listen to metal I like to hear/feel each individual drum beat.

I have an area in my trunk that's 38"X22"



Second part of my question. am i better off going for square or circle woofers? I have heard square woofers have a larger surface area and are louder. but I also have heard that the sound is not as clear. If that is truly the case will have to rethink my sub choices

For just rock music this sound system seems a little epic... For deep loud bass go with the 15's... But if you want very full bass I'd recommend building your own ported box that way you can tune it for a more wide range of bass apposed to a generic box that only hits the lows... I'm assuming you already have a base knowldge on sound since your going with that many/big amount of speakers. So depending on which speaker it is I'd look at the recommended amount of sq footage it needs also its range. And then for the box size/shape... Build it depending on your car(what fits and what your cars acoustics are like)

If you want to feel it, moving as much air as possible is king. Box design itself has much more to do with the end result than the choice of woofer. A poorly designed box can make just about anything sound terrible, and conversely, a well designed box can manipulate even "cheap" woofers into doing what you want. I would recommend using a sealed box for the 15's with the power you have and you definitely will "feel" all you need. I have a similar taste in music as you, and I've probably had every configuration but settled on a pair of 15's in a properly designed box in the end that was powered by a single Phoenix Gold MS275. The bass drum in Metallica's One would move my hair! and at the same time it was completely tight, could distinguish easily even the fastest double kick drum beats. I had 4 10"s and it just wasn't the same. 4 12"s in a ported box wouldn't do it either. They were loud, but just not the right sound I was looking for. So anyway, the sealed enclosure, if built properly for the woofer's parameters, will not be mushy and boomy, but very tight and controlled. It still will be able to get low when necessary, but yeah, for booming rap it will probably not satisfy. The specs for the box usually can be provided by the manufacturer. The sealed design will generally have a smaller footprint as well. As far as the square/round thing.... minimal difference. You literally have to double your power or double your cone area to get just a 3db gain in volume, so yes, there is more cone area and it technically is louder, but the difference would not be noticeable. There certainly isn't a quality issue with either choice. There is a lot of great resource at www.bcae1.com for gaining car audio know how before you shop. Not to criticize, but if you're spending that much on amplification and subwoofers, why not splurge a bit more on the front stage? IMHO, I would use one of the amps for your subs and use the other to power some nicer components in the front that are properly crossed over. Remember, you'll only lose 3db in subwoofer volume! But, if you re-allocate this power to the front, your perception of overall loudness and sound quality will be over the top! The reason is, without adequate power, in order to keep up with the subs, you'll most certainly run the little amp in the Alpine into clipping, and it will sound crappy to you. Also, I'm not sure of the ratings you're quoting on the MS1000's, but the specs are:

4 x 340W RMS @ 4 ohms (14.4V)

4 x 520W RMS @ 2 ohms (14.4V)

2 x 1050W RMS @ 4 ohms bridged (14.4V)

And that is ONLY if you have 14.4V going to them constantly, which will not be the case unless you go through a lot of expensive modifications and upgrades to your vehicle's electrical system to achieve this. You can mitigate some of that by ensuring the amps have large gauge wire like I/0 running to them. 4 AWG will suffice, but the more the voltage drops, the less power you'll have. But be aware that these beasts draw a lot of power, and quite frankly, your car's electrical system will dictate how well they perform.

I would not recommend getting square subwoofers. I had a 15 L7 and the lows were great but it will not hit any bass notes over 100hz. You would be much better off the get a pair of alpine type r 15s they are 2000 watts a piece and can hit very good lows as well as much higher bass notes than an L7. You can find them for around 220 a piece on sonicelecronix.com.

i have an 04' impala so nice :P however your car dont matter. you want to buy a capacitor, they blink due to how much power is being drawn from the battery. this is bad for your alternator and bad for your starter. they have to work harder. a capacitor or cap stores up the energy so when your amp needs it it takes it from the cap. headlights blinking goes down.



you'll want about a 2 farad cap for 1800 watts since the rule of thumb is basicaly 1 farad per 1000 watts.

It depends on what you're looking for. I love sound quality some people love LOUD. LOUD can be acomplished with little money and products from Best Buy. Sound quality costs more money and you'll want to shop a specialty stores for that, like local car audio shops. SQ & loud costs even more money and you need to be at local audio places for that as well plus tuning needs to be done.



I listen to a wide array of music and I did a ton of research to pick the right speakers, subs, amps, and head unit. As far as head unit the alpine, pioneer premier, eclipse line is stuff that's hard to go wrong with. Amps and subs is really all about you, but good advice is stay away from pyramid, legacy, and rookwood stuff, most of it looks nice but it's really junk circuitry. I love JL audio amps and subs very accurate for all my listening tastes, but I will admit they are overpriced at a lot of places ( hint: don't shop crutchfield for JL). There are lots of good equipment out there do your research because it's really all up to your taste, everyone has different opinions on what's best, and you'll have yours too.

The Valentine 1 is supposed to be the best. The Escort X50 is a fairly close second. There is a $200 or so price difference.



If you live and drive in an area that utilizes a lot of laser speed detection then the Valentine 1 is your best bet. It'll be worth the extra $$$. If you are in an area that doesn't like SC, then the Escort will probably be just fine.



I have the Escort and it's done great. I would like a Valentine mostly because it'll tell you which direction the signal is coming from.

Sometimes people will label as new to make the item more attractive. Usually, if they are selling more than one of the product, it IS new. If the person selling has a low feedback, be careful. However, most of the time, you are safe, the amount of scammers are more like 1 in 100. They usally offer free shipping to make you want to buy it more to, dont worry though.

Shady auto body shop ruined my amplifier, could it have been the paint-finishing oven?

When I took my car into the shop for a hole in my wheel well, and minor rust on the quarter panel, my stereo system worked fine. A day later, the shop told me they were finished with the work, and I picked up the car. I returned a week later because a spot of rust re-appeared in the same area. Upon closer inspection, they had merely painted over the rust areas as I could still see painted-over pock marks from before. Even though they charged $400 and told me they had to grind out the rust, build it up again and paint.



When I returned to pick up my car the second time they told me to wait a half hour because the car was still in the finishing oven. This time it came out nicely, and I was satisfied. But this time on the way home, when I turned on the stereo I had no more bass. My amp was on but no longer working. I immediately u-turned, took it back, where we all tried to figure out the problem. I took it to a pro who said the amp was dead.



What happened?



Could it have been the time spent in the oven?



How could I go about holding them liable?

Yes I checked the fuses two professionals have also inspected the amp.

when connecting an amp in the trunk it obviously is like an oven itself now it was on the back quarter panel right? an amp should never run in any heat past 115 degrees itll kill the insides. i wouldn't have them replace it because they were just following procedure. they didnt intentionally mean to mess it up. sorry :(

It's not likely the oven had anything to do with it. It is possible it was your amps time to go. Depending on where the repair was in relation to your amp it's possible they grounded a wire. It's possible they were playing with your stereo and abused it.



I don't trust any shop when it comes to my stereo. I've found CDs in the head unit that I know were in the armrest when I dropped it off. I've had the radio station changed and volume up many times. I tripped the circuit breakers one time so the stereo wouldn't work at all and it was on when I picked the car up. People will play with your equipment if you don't do something drastic to prevent it.

Sony Xplod 12" and Sony Xplode amp. I had an 800 watt which was about $100 at walmart and the 12" was $40 and it beat great. The new owner of it loves it.. Then you could get 2 tweeters which makes the highs sound better which will need to be connected to your amp. The sub (12) is your low, your speakers are medium, and the tweeters are your high frequency

Well It depends on what u want. Do u just want new door speakers or just like a sub in the truck. If u want both its gunna cost alot. If u just want a sub and an amp in the truck it shouldnt be that much. Anyway first what u need is a head unit(aftermarket radio that goes in the dash)I have a kenwood and it works great so try that if u want. Then u will need to find a box and subs that fit it.(Sometimes a box will come with the subs like mine did so look around)Then u will need and amp. I really dont no the name of mine, but the the watts of it depend on how many subs u have or what size the sub is(i think). then all u need is the wires to run to the radio and the battary. You might want to get that part installed by someone who knows what there doin.

Go to your local audio shops and learn from the pros. Listen to every system you can and tell them what you like. Don't just go to one shop. Check out every one you can find and use the one you feel will take care of you and your vehicle best.



Every vehicle is different and the sound will not be the same even if the equipement is.



Oh, and never take advice from people who say "they ****** bang dude". They are normally only focused on SPL and not sound quality.

You have a lot of options here. Just depends on how much money you have to spend honestly. The brands that most people here about are kicker, alpine, JL Audio, kenwood, and sony. These are your most affordable options. However, if you are crazy about bass, then there are other options that are not as widely known such as RE audio.



If you want a sure go buy that sounds good and wont dissapoint, then go with 2 Alpine Type R 12" subwoofers with a Rockford Fosgate P1000 amp. You will be amazed by the loudness and SQ (sound quality). If you have any other questions, then just email me.

buying a amp for a sub is really about budget, and the subs capability. look at the subs power rating, and impedance. then get a amp that falls withing those specs, often a ver large range. for example the T8512-44 has the following specs:

Description: 12" Subwoofer

Impedance: Dual 4 ohm

RMS Power: 500 Watts

RMS Amplifier Power: 250-500 Watts

Sensitivity: 92.19dB



ok so its a dual 4 ohm, that means it can have a load of 2 ohm or 8 ohm.... reall not much of a choice here go with parralel and a 2 ohm load. one sub is all you need. the power rating says 250 - 500 watts. so look for a amp that @ a 2 ohmn load producing a single channel of power rated between 250- watts and 500. its really that simple.

if you got 2 subs you would need a amp of 500-1000 watts and it would have to be at 1 ohm (rare) or at 4 ohm.

I would in general recomend a amp that is CEA certified, or equal. there are lots of top names that dont mess with the cert. but if it is cheapy priced without the cert, stay clear.



here are a couple sugestions of what i think are great values.

Inside the box hmm,



Positive terminal on the box to a red wire to positive terminal on the speaker.



and for the negative terminal on the box, use a black wire and go to the negitive terminal on the speaker.



Do not cross the wires in the box.



Red to red



Black to black



Color of wire doesn't really matter but it makes it easier to keep track of.

Connect the positive (white wire) to the left, negative (solid color wire) to the right! Make wire long enough to reach sub, so you won't be struggling with holding sub while trying to wire the box!

Just find a screw or bolt and make sure there isn't any paint under it and screw/bolt down the wire that you need to ground. If you are doing wiring where there aren't any bolts around you can find part of the body/floor that is out of the way and scrape of the paint and use a self tapping metal screw, just make sure there isn't anything important under it.

Buy a brand new metal bolt and remove a bolt anywhere there is a factory bolt and metal, scratch away the paint, but just in bolt area (sand is best!), ground ( keep wire short) and replace with new metal bolt! if you want an easier way, try grounding studs on ebay

yeah definitly. they are fairly cheap too. the expensive part is the rest of the head unit that is screwed into the dash. look online. if you can't find anything you can call the company of your head unit and they can get you a replacement or help you find a place to get one

its not that easy to get a new front for your head unit,,, the audio dealers could say that you have stolen the main unit and your looking for a face to go on to it,, jvc, pioneer, panasonic wont sell you a front without proper paperwork to say that the face was stolen,,



probably the best bet would go into ebay and see if some-one is selling a faulty head-unit with the same face has yours,,

You may have changed the type of disk you burned, older CD players will not play MP3 disks.



Also it may have something to do with the fact you changed brands of CDs if you have done so, but that's just speculation.



You also could have gotten a bad batch of CD-Rs.

your head unit in your car may not support the format your music is in. to fix this just simply convert to a supported format and burn onto a cd. if the problem continues, try slowing the cd burning speed. i've had past problems with that. i would slow down the cd burning speed because my old stock head unit wouldnt play the cd unless i did

It can mean many thing the most common is that there is a sensor that has detected an abnormal result and it need to be checked. On a chevy its most often caused by a loose gas cap. You will need to take it to a dealer and have the code checked they can then reset it. If they don't fix the issue though it will come back on.

No it's not dumb. you have enough space in the back of your truck to where it won't rattle parts in you vehicle, like in a small car for example.

10's sound better anyway, sound quality wise. they have tighter cleaner bass, 12's are louder yes, but don't sound as clean as 10's. check out sound quality audio competition websites and you'll see the pros usually use 10's. if they use 12's they don't use very many. you have enough space and it should sound good, as long as you give them enough power, and INSTALL IT PROPERLY, VERY IMPORTANT.

It depends on what specific sub you have more then anything else. Some subs work well in sealed and are terrible in ported enclosure and some are the other way around. You can tell this by looking at what the manufacturer recommends.



Most subs produced by major manufacturers work well in both sealed and ported enclosures. In this case you would choose based on what type of sound you are looking for. Sealed enclosures typically give the best sound quality while ported enclosure will give you more output then sealed with a loss in sound quality. This can be a little or major loss depending on the application.



If your sub happens to be the Type-R (it is 500w RMS also) then I would recommend a ported enclosure.

The stereo system in my Buick is a little weird because the radio part and the cassette part are in two different pieces. How would I go about replacing the cassette player with an aftermarket CD player? If possible I'd like to leave the radio part where it is and put the CD player where the now non-working cassette player is. The radio is integrated with the antenna so it goes up and down when the radio is either on and off. Really not sure what to do about this - Any help is appreciated!

Your new radio will come with a Blue Acc. wire- it is used for turning the antenna on and off(making it go up and down).

Plus dont forget to buy the Radio install adapter, it will fill the void where the old radio was.

If so, leave that there, and remove the cassette and radio unit (box in behind), and install the CD deck where the tape used to be (you will need to cut), or get a mounting kit which will make a seamless install.



Of course you will get the wiring harness adapter kit also.

a low pass filter cuts off sound above a certain frequency. By setting the filter at the correct level, it will reduces some of the boominess that inexperienced car audio people actually like, but high end autoaudiophiles laugh at. Setting the filter higher will allow more sound to pass into the sub. It is the "center" of the "pivot" of the filter.



You didn't give us enough information but you first engineer the subwoofer to the enclosure/crossover network.

You would set your filter at the frequency determined by a function of the cubic inches of the enclusure, the efficieency of the "crossover or rollover (like 12db per octave, 15 db per octave, 18 db per octave, etc", the resonant frequency of the enclosure. The link http://www.ajdesigner.com/ will give you each of the equations you will need. If you don't have all the proper info you wll have to take the opposite track.



If the enclosure manufacturer, driver manufacturer and crossover mfgr didn't give you all the correct data you'll have to take a differnt track and it may cost you some money to send it to a company that will run tests.





The easiest way to set it up is with a digital real time spectrum analyzer. Turn OFF the "loudness button", that is just a mid bass/ treble preamp that actually distorts sound. Run a sweep or play "pink noise". Then set your paragraphic or graphic equalizer so that youe boosts or attenuations are no more than 6db plus or minus.. Then you will play with the low pass filter adjusting the frequency and efficiency to give you as flat performance as possible.

The subsonic stop the speaker from playing anything below 15 to 40 hz and is for subs in a ported box to prevent the sub from traveling to far, bottoming out, and damaging the sub. Set the lpf to 80 hz. Your other speakers will play frequencies higher than that. Set the subsonic filter to 30 hz. No lower than 20 hz if you have 15's or bigger. None of your music is going to play that low anyway, and by trying to reproduce some of the noise that gets through or frequencies the sub can't handle, the subs would be playing distortion.

from what u have selected i would go for pioneer.. but if you got a bit of extra cash to play with, i would go for something abit better like JL audio or JVC.. Their performance Subwoofer line is to die for, it would make you the new Sound off king!! But remember, a powerful sub means a powerful amp and amp kit.. it would be a blue and white wire, otherwise i suggest running it into the yellow wire coming off the back of the cd player. other wise u could run it into the fuse box, twist the wire around the blade of ur ignition fuse and your good to go also
