when i got my 2-12in sub i had to get 600w minimum, as long as your sub max power doesn't exceed you amp's max power you should be fine.
just a little advice if you have a trunk and not a hatch back or SUV, a more powerful system will make it sound like sh*t. it will make your trunk rattle, i have a 2001 eclipse GT with a hatch back and my system sounds great my car vibrates.
vibrating=good, rattling=bad
1st off your buying the cheapest crappiest sub on the market. you get what you pay for with car audio.
But look at RMS watts on the amp and the subs not peak watts
match a monochannel amps RMS watts to 2 xplode RMS watts but be careful and also try and match ohm loads
always use the rms rating when looking for the correct amp and subs. (rms sometimes shown as continuous power or rated output) the RMS rating of the amp should not exceed the RMS rating of the subs. don't even bother looking at the MAX ratings, because a lot of cheap speakers put crazy ratings that don't mean anything. the RMS rating is the TRUE rating. those sony's you're looking at are 380 watt subs, not 1200watt subs.
check the rms rating of the amp you're looking at. if you plan to get two of the sony subs, which are 4 ohms each, then connecting them together in parallel will make a 2 ohm load. you should be looking for an amp that pushes about 600 to 800 watts RMS at 2 ohms. (mono class d is best for this application)
edit: haha. looks like i took too long to type. patrick beat me to the punch. :-)
Well the other guys are right...those subs are pretty cheap...and well ignore MAX WATTS...PEAK POWER....always look at watts rms...oh and about your question...I think they have to install the amp for free...and if they want to charge you for the speakers...ummm I mean come on...just screw the speakers to the box and connect them to the amp...it doesnt take a genius to do that...not even a best buy guy...but they have to install the amp for free
ya, i had bought 2 RE subs(reasonant Engineering) and the place i bought it from didnt have their tech guy to install them, i would of done them myself but their dual voice and my old ones were single voice. so i took them to best buy and had them put them in, no problem occured. but make sure after they install everything, you get it checked by another store or car audio place because when they did mine, the stupid guy turned my amp on full max power and blew 1 of my subs.

what can happen if you under power your subs?
[Question]
i have 2 15" kicker L7's 2 ohm dvc and a kicker zx1000.1 im wondering if something will go wrong this amp is only a temporary amp and i should be getting a kicker zx2500.1 when i have the money saved up. can something go wrong? or will it just be under powering to subs by a lot
[All Answers]
Nothing, they will be fine.
you probably risk doing damage to the amp.
nothing wrong,in most places subs are underpowered,it only matters if like your sub can get a max of 1500 rms and you provide only 150,this also only at high volume levels.
Well as long as you understand that the Zx1000.1 won't PUSH your 15's to its potential.
So if you try to push your subs...and keep pushing the gain and volume up...you can cause your amps and your subs to CLIP....clipping is bad.
You are sending the wrong signals to the sub...and can cause the amp to burn up and even cause damage to the Voice coils of the subs.
So It's OK to under power....as long as you are not sending a clipped signal to the subs.

question with installing dynamat?
[Question]
i have a 2004 saturn ion and two kicker 12's powered by about 900watts rms and i plan on putting to more tens in soon. i plan on doing dynamat in the entire car because everything rattles like nuts. my question is that in the trunk and under the rear deck there are so many holes and stuff in the way how do i apply it there? do you just lay it over the holes and cut around the knobs and stuff?
[All Answers]
that is how i would lay it down.
u got it the objective is to cover everyting
to make it easier to cut away around the holes, you can put some masking tape over the holes before applying the dynamat. it is much easier to peel away with the masking tape than to peel away dynamat.

Sub help, overhead light and radio dont work?
[Question]
I just bought a sub and wanted to see what it sounded like. It is a 12" sub, and i hooked it up by taking out the 2 front speakers, and using speaker wire to run to the sub. When i hooked the two speaker wires to the sub, my radio and my overhead light cut off. I checked the radio fuse and it seems to be good. What did i do???
[All Answers]
go into your INSIDE fuse box theres a fuse in there thats tied with your cigar lighter/radio it blew somin must of hpapened buts its most likely a (15 amp) fuse just replace that and your radio should work if the fuse looks good and the piece of metal inside it is still all there and connected and not missing in parts of the fuse (or the fuse isnt melted)
There are always two fuses in the vehicle that supply power to the radio; one is for accessory power and one is for constant power. It sounds like your radio's constant power fuse is blown. It might not be labeled as a radio fuse, but it will be in the vehicle fuse box. It might be called a "cabin", or "courtesy" fuse. If you don't find it in the interior fuse box, look for a fuse box under the hood.
if your using the speaker wires to run the sub, don't. it will blow more fuses. you need a amp kit to power you sub. you can splice the speaker wire with a line out converter to get music and run it to the rca jack.

what ever you want to put in could be made to work. I have a dvd player in my dash.
If you want the security code, go to a ford dealer with your car and your registration document (uk) and they will supply it.
