are alpine type s 6 and a half inch speakers worth the money?
[Question]
[All Answers]
I have to say yes. I bought a pair, for my son's car. They sound grreat!
I would go for something with similiar specs and a better price.
Alpine is the NIKE of car audio and video.
Overpriced and extremely bland.
yea. they are worth the money for sure. they can handle they're own weight and can give great sound output its a great but for a certain amount. No 90+ dollars though.
Worth the money comparative to what?
stock speakers?
an even nicer set of speakers?
People are usually happy with the type S sets
For the money, yes - they are.
They put up a good challenge to most other speakers in the market, quality vs. dollar at this price point.
Depends how much u pay for them. Get them at best buy or a shop and they won't be worth the price. Get them online and they can put up a fight. IMO the best bang for your buck speakers are the PG-RSDs. I've heard many good things about them and they are cheaper than the Ss.

will settin the gains too high damage my speakers?
[Question]
[All Answers]
absolutely depending on the impedance of the speakers. I would lay it easy on the BASS settings.
Not unless you turn it up too loud. Gain is basically just a fancy word for volume on an amp. It will make it easier for you to get into a situation where you've got the volume too loud though, especially right after you make the change. Make sure you're a little conservative while you're getting used to it.
there is a clip on your amp
you turn gain up and turn the volume up you will clip your amp which runs bad power to the speaker which blows them up
heres the more complicated way of saying this.
you run AC power all day everyday UNTIL you clip your amp, then you run DC through amp to speaker, you can fry speaker by doing this. Or fry amp by doing this which is way more expensive and extremly worse. so don't do it.... better yet, if it makes you learn go ahead. most people now a days learn the hard and expensive way. Not being a jackass just realistic
it will damage the subs if both the bass boost and the gain are turned up too loud, it also depends on on how many watts your amp is compared to your sub. if they match well, it shouldnt be a problem, like my 4ohm sub can handle all the gain and bass boost (12" l7 and zx750.1 amp).
Setting the gain too high will cause your amplifier to start clipping the signal. What that means, it means that the signal wave will start becoming more of a square rather than a nice smooth curve. That causes plenty of power increase (it can be 2x as much for a fully clipped signal) and that makes the speaker have mechanical problems and lead to blowing them. A gain knob is NOT the volume knob. It is a way to adjust the RCA volts to your amplifier's volts so your amplifier can perform at its best.

Car amplifier problem?
[Question]
I have a jbl grand touring 600.1 amp. It turns on around volume 2-5 which is low. If i raise the volume up and the bass hits harder it keeps going into protection mode. Then i lower it again and when i raise it the same thing happens. I checked the fuses. please help.
im using 2 kenwoods 12's
kfc 3011
[All Answers]
You might need bigger power wire to the amp sometimes it dont get the power it requires and shuts down
SOUNDS LIKE THE AMP IS GOING INTO PROTECTION(OBVIOUSLY)......WHAT SUBS R U RUNNING, SOUNDS LIKE THE OHM LOAD MAY BE TOO MUCH FOR THE AMP, IF THATS THE CASE IT WILL CONTINUE TO DO BECAUSE THE AMP IS BEING PUSHED TOO HARD,
Well you either have yourself a voltage issue
your subs are wired to an OHM load that your amp isnt capable of
or you need to check your wires like ground ect....
Maybe you've set your gains up too high. Try turning off any bassboost in ur amplifier. Also you might have too low of an ohm load for that amp.

any one who has a gps or that knows alot about them?
[Question]
my parents who know nothing about technology have bought a gps without consulting with me first..they purchased a jensen nvx43obt..i have never heard of this name brand ..any opinions or suggestions or reviews would be highly appreciated thank you
[All Answers]
Why Jensen? They manufacture mediocre stereo equipment. "Get a Garmin or get lost!"
Jensen is a brand sold at walmart. need i say more?
They make some cheap stuff. Your GPS will likely not be very accurate or have many features. but it's sort of a trade off. You get what you pay for. Tom tom's can be cheap, but are pretty good. Garmins are better, but they are a little more expensive. The SONY ones are also excellent and I would say they are every bit as good or better than the Garmins. I like the user interface alot better on the Sony. Perhaps if they like the GPS they got, and find it a little inacurate, then maybe they will upgrade once they relize how nice it would be to have a gps that actually works. I tried to buy a Jensen GPS once at a Canadian tire, and the guy said he wouldn't sell it to me because I was just going to bring it back to him in 3 days.
If you still have the reciept please take that back and get a garmin or mellagan. Jensen is a terrible brand. They make super cheap car audio equipment and it isn't any good.
Garmin - hands down. Consumer Reports #1 ranked brand. They are more refined and outperform any other brand in the market.
Jensen??? I wonder why they thought that would be a good GPS brand. I didn't even know they made one...

Whats the purpose of the big 3 upgrade and do I need to do it?
[Question]
I'm confuse about the big 3 thing. I've asked question about it before but I'm confused. I'm only push 500 watts rms, but I recently killed a factory car battery and got a new factory battery for free. But do I need to just do the big 3, upgrade my battery, upgrade my alternator? I don't know what needs to be done. I drive a 2007 Kia Optima
[All Answers]
The "Big 3" is a very easy mod to your car's electrical system that will help it maintain higher voltages for more power hungry amplifiers.
500 watts really isn't all that much.. The big 3 is recommended for very strong amps. You can always check your amp an all for voltage drops to see if you need to do this. You should be fine, you could have just had a bad battery. Don't run your system when the car is off.
500 watts. Thats weak, if you're car battery can't handle that, then throw the battery away! Get Optima, Kinetic (I recommend), anything that can handle a little power. When you drive at night and you bump, you're lights dim and bright up again? if so thats normal don't worry, if they dim and don't brighten up, your altinator is fucked. Another way, you start your car, drive, bump, shut car off and try to turn it back on and you're battery is dead, then your altenator is bad.
If your just losing charge w.o playin music, its your battery AND altenator cuz its job is to start car and charge battery. 2 reasons its for.. but 500 watts shouldn't do anything harmful to your car. I'd have to look to see which one it is. but good luck and hope this helps
The big 3 upgrade is recommended for any car audio install, but 500 watts is probably not enough to cause major problems, if you have a good battery and alternator and your car is newer.
The big 3 is suppose to take away some of the stress of your electrical in the car. It's always a good idea to do it since it's not that expensive and your car benefits from it.
