what could be wrong with my head unit?

i recently put in an aftermarket stereo in my 01' impala i decided to wire in the head myself (i didn't want chimes; don't assume i needed a wiring harness)

everything work's fine except every once in a while when i turn on my car the stereo does not turn on so i turn my car off and after several starts my stereo turns on and works great. what could be wrong.



also while wiring in my stereo i noticed the ACCESSORY wire only put out 9.6 volts (could this be the problem)

you, might have a naked wire somewhere, check all of the wires and make sire all of your grounds are properly grounded.

How to wire radio from headunit?
[Question]
My car when i bought it had an after market system.



The radio antenna was in the windshield i think. Anyway when i got a new headunit i tore off the radio wire from the headunit.



Now with my new headunit i dont know how to hook up a radio antenna.



Any suggestions are appreciated.

well, to wire in a head (i don't know how far you are so I'm taking it from the beginning) you can either use a harness (somewhat expensive) or if you don't care about chimes simply use a volt meter and find the accessory wire (turn key on, put negative on either the ground wire or a good ground on your car, test each wire to find the one with voltage ;around 12v) as for the antenna you should have a wire your dash that has one prong sticking out from a metal cylinder (similar to an rca cable) if its too small you can get ADAPTER.



finally for some reason you have antenna wire you may simply have rear window defrost window and need to buy an antenna which will have a cord you can run and plug in to the back of your head.

It sounds like you may have entered the wrong code too many times and the radio has locked out. It might give you the opportunity to enter again after a set time (can be up to an hour) but if it doesn't you'll need to take it to a car audio shop and have it decoded.
