Very sensitive car subwoofer needed, help!?
[Question]
I have an older alpine amplifier, i dont have the model # at hand, which provides 100 watts of rms power on a bridged channel @ 4 ohms. I know an amplifier of this power should be used for speakers but im strapped for cash at the moment and want to add a subwoofer to my car. Does anyone know of any relatively cheap subwoofers that can be pushed efficiently with 100 watts? Im trying to stay below $65-70.

well if you ask me a 10'' is too small for that a 12 will give you more of a punch a 15 is more of a long low bass sound and i just don't like 18's
OPC @ 2009-01-27 15:11:12
they make low profile subs and boxes that will most likely fit under/behind your seat. some companies make sub and box package that are made to bring out the best sound. a 10 or 12 would be fine if you could find the space for them. i know mtx makes packages, just look around.

CB's are limited in range due to the fact that they have very limited power and are not permitted by the FCC to use repeaters. Contact a local radio club and ask someone to help you tune your antennas. The only reason I can think of for wanting the twin antennas is for looks unless you are driving a semi. Those antenna need to be at least 102 inches apart.

You need to have your SWR's checked and then set, optimum setting is between 0.5 and 1.5. Also, the FCC limits the output of a C.B to be no more than 4 watts. All radios are more powerful, but are tuned down to meet FCC guidlines. A good radio shop can tune it back up in minutes. How much it will turn up depends on what radio you have, for example a Cobra 25,or Uniden 68 can easily be set up to 15-25 watts, a Cobra 29,and Unidel 78 (with a GOOD radio guy) can push 35-40 WATTS. I also recommend a good microphone such as an Astatic, or a Road King noise cancelling mic. If you would like, you can send me a message and I'll send you my email and I can talk you through setting your SWR's

1 JL 12w3v3 or 1 12 fi SSD?
[Question]
I'm going for a SQL system overall but mostly SQ. So far I have a DEH-P600UB pioneer head unit. For the front speakers I have TR650-CSi 6.5 component JLs. For the back I have TR690-TXi 6x9 JL speakers. This is all in a 2000 honda accord sedan. For the sub I only want one because I still want cargo room. I will put it in a ported box and I would also like a recommendation on a decent amp for either subwoofer. Thanks

Sounds like you've built a good system already. As for a sub/amp combo i'd go with the JL 12w3v3 2ohm version with a JL A1400 mono amp. Its matched perfectly for power (rms) and has a peak of 1000. Can also purchase the remote for the amp to dial in the bass for each song. Depending on your $$ situation this would be a great way to go. $220 for the amp and $170 for the sub + s&h at sonicelectronix.com

I have 2 jl 12w3v3 im going to add another in my trunk... would I gain a lot more bass if i add another 12"..?
[Question]
of the same type .. or should i get some focal mid speakers.... I need new speakers .... so would i gain a lot more bass by adding a third on its own amp or no
Zack T @ 2009-01-27 14:26:49
[All Answers]
for course your gonna gain a lot more bass by adding the 3rd one. but than your gonna be draining a lot of power from the battery by adding another amp
robert r @ 2009-01-27 14:31:05
yes, you will be gaining more bass. because having 2 subwoofers gives you more cone dimension space.
same with speakers or separates/coaxials.
if you add more you'll get a clearer or louder sound.
but the problem sometimes is that, you cannot maximize the speakers max potential if you just share all speakers in one amp.
ok?
