Adding a steering wheel with audio controls to my factory stereo ?
[Question]
I have a 2009 ford focus. It didn't come with steering wheel controls for the stereo. I do how ever want to put one in but not sure it its even possible. I already have the steering wheel and it is a fit with my car. All i need to know is what kind of control lead i need to connect it to my stereo. I dont even know if my factory stereo can add it. If its possible. what will i need? And im getting an aftermarket sync system, and i also want to connect that to the steering wheel rather then drilling a hole in my dash to add the controls it comes with. is that possible?
[All Answers]
Read your car manual if your stereo is compatible it will say so if not go buy an aftermarket stereo that is compatible with the steering wheel

Why do my 12" pioneers champion series keep smoking?
[Question]
When i have them hooked up they hit pretty good for a while then they start smoking really bad. Then they shut off completely. Any ideas what it might be??
My amp is a rockford fosgate p600.1bd. pushes about 714 watts rms. the twelves are 1400 watts max. and i'm not sure about the rms raiting on those. . .
[All Answers]
I had this happen with one of my subs... can you get me the specs on the sub and amp..
What happened with my setup is i was using a Powerbass sub that said it could run at 800 Watts RMS and running it with a Kicker that threw 750 Watts RMS however the problem was Powerbass over rated their sub and was probably only about 600 Watts and the Amp actually put out quite a bit more than 750 Watts therefore the sub was WAY overpowered and of course ended up blowing the sub!
Your wiring could also be wrong
your frying the voice coil those subs are pretty much junk now
reasons why we look at RMS not peak power.

How can i wire my car speaker set to get power ?? ?
[Question]
im a little puzzeled on where to attach the wires to receive power come to thinkof it i dont know how i would wire anything to receive power lights, gadgets, etc can someone explain how this is done
[All Answers]
if you are replacing factory speakers, the factory speakers will be currently hooked up already with a positive and negative wire.
You can simply take those wire off of your factory speakers, and take those speakers out, replace them with your new speakers and hook up those pos. and neg. wires to your pos. neg. terminals on the back side of your new speakers.
If your planning on keeping your factory speakers you can splice into the wires (generally on your rear deck speakers which should be accessible through your trunk.) From there just hook up new wiring from the splice to your new speakers.
Any more specific questions please just ask.
Speakers are actually in a sense self powered, you just need to hook them up with current wiring.
not to bad looks more hard than it is. on the top of your player there is a intimidating wire diagram. ignore it. take one wire at a time. there is a yellow wire. this runs to your fuse box. plug this into the fuse that controls your cigarette lighter. there is a red wire. plug this into the fuse box were your factory radio fuse is located. the black wire. is for the ground circuit find metal petition dash board . may have to drill hole. doubtful there are many metal connections. the speaker wires are self explanatory. green solid positive side speaker. green with stripe negative side. etc. there also are wiring kits for your car. hard to believe the best stocked and cheapest is wal mart. you remove your factory radio . just plug in connection. ready to go. this is the best most solid connection possible. much much easier to do than lay on back running wires. great easy to follow directions. Very vert simple install. just disconnect battery is the most important thing. not as hard as it sounds. that is a bad unintended pun. really not that hard. if your confidence is shot it is 40 dollars to have shop install. good luck.

What kind of Subwoofers Should I get?
[Question]
I drive a 2000 Hyndai accent,
Right now I have 2 12' subwoofers and a 800 watt amp.
I be beattin but it dont beat hard enough so the speakers busted.
Im gettin some new subwoofers this weekend, I need to REAL KNOCK.
I live in NC and goin to a place call AutoAudio.
Tell me whats the best 12' subwoofers so I can have so REAL BASS
Nah Im not buyin a new amp,
Just new subs
[All Answers]
well it all depends on how much money you want to spend, it depends if your willing to by a new amp.
Your amp is more important than your subs. You can have amazing subs but without the correct power and wiring you won't get half as much out of them.
This is the setup I always recommend and I have yet to hear anybody complain about it.
Amp -
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=19614
Sub - http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=16856
Car audio is also a lot more complicated than you probably think.
If your car is small then you generally will not have a battery and alternator that is sufficient to powering all of these extra add-ons therefore your going to mess up your alternator and/or battery and end up spending money on replacing these things.
Be wise and thoroughly review and research anything before you make a decision to spend a grand on something thats going to make you end up spending twice that amount!!!

capacitor? or is my car able to give sufficient power?
[Question]
I have a 2000 Bonneville SSEI and I will be running 900 watts RMS my car has the original alternator and this is the battery
CCA: 880; Battery is vented to outside of vehicle; 30 Minute Installation; Located under rear seat; OE Group Size: 79; OE CCA Rating: 880
I believe it's some knock off from advanced auto parts....however the damn thing was somehow $150!!!!
Would this be fine or would a capacitor help at all.... I'm new to this side of car audio..
Thanks!!!!!!!!
[All Answers]
GM Cars usually have good alternators so you should be fine. I cap could help but would not make much a difference at all. If you do buy one check ebay because they are a lot cheaper than going to a store to buy one. Unless your running big power you should be all set unless you notice the lights dimming when a big bass note hits.
if your lights dim on your vehicle upgrade your big 3 to larger gauge 1/0 is reccomended
Big 3 is
+batt cable to alternator
-batt cablee to engine block
- engine block cable to chassis
upgrade those to a larger gauge to increase current flow

Whats the difference between two 12"subs and two 15"subs ?

Will two 12" power Acoustic PW3 with 800rms per sub in a ported box sound as good as two 15" power Acoustic PW2 with 550rms in a sealed box.My trunk is a hatch back if that info. helps.

a sealed box will give you lower range of audio to pick up the deep base. a ported box is louder but doesn't have the deep range. I think 2 12" 800 rms subs in a sealed box would give you all the thump you'd ever need.

15's are more for rap type

what amp should i need for my subwoofer?
[Question]
i have a 1000watt inifinity sub and am looking to buy an amp for it...i don't plan on running full capacity...i just want good clear loud sound in the end...
1000 watt peak
250watt RMS
the sub i have is the Infinity 1040W

we need to know the rms rating, not the peak/max rating
just get an amp that is rated a 250 watts rms for one channel
make sure the ohms match up to
a 1000 watts disel amp. it sound great on any subwoofers.
i have a 1000 watt sony amp that works nicely for my 750 w dub speakers. You could get away with 750 watts if you have a good box. Sony is cheaper price than most and I haven't found the quality to be bad, so I highly recommend.
looks like the sub might be around 500 wats RMS so therefore u can get like one of those 300 watt RMS mono amps from Wal-Mart, etc. could work if u want a simple personal set up and not to impress people for like a show.
1000 watt amp magnetech are the one ya wany or alphine or bose.
Ur amp needs to have a couple of watt rms then the speaker ur running
Get a 300 watt RMS amp or a 600 watt amp
A jl audio 250/1 or 500/1 would be a good choice.

i have a 1000 watt sony amp that works nicely for my 750 w dub speakers. You could get away with 750 watts if you have a good box. Sony is cheaper price than most and I haven't found the quality to be bad, so I highly recommend.
bo.echo @ 2009-01-30 08:28:00
looks like the sub might be around 500 wats RMS so therefore u can get like one of those 300 watt RMS mono amps from Wal-Mart, etc. could work if u want a simple personal set up and not to impress people for like a show.
Jessie @ 2009-01-30 08:39:25
1000 watt amp magnetech are the one ya wany or alphine or bose.
Des G @ 2009-01-30 09:02:26
Ur amp needs to have a couple of watt rms then the speaker ur running
Get a 300 watt RMS amp or a 600 watt amp
Jreezy @ 2009-01-30 09:14:59
A jl audio 250/1 or 500/1 would be a good choice.

Should I buy this radio?
[Question]
Okay here's my situation, I've always wanted one of the motorized radio systems. I found one here at walmart. (Link : http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10160972#Customer+Product+Q%26A ) The problem is, that I own a 95 ford mustang. In which the radio system sits about a 1/3 of an inch deep into the dash... Now putting two and two together, I'm sure that if i install it the screen won't be able to come out. That being said, Is there a spacer that i could by to put on each side of the radio so it sits further up or something?
[All Answers]

4 channel amp for my speakers?
[Question]
I have a 2008 hyundai sonata
Pioneer AVIC-F700bt
Component Kicker KS series
and KS series in the back
And a small sub and amp is my next purchase.
It sounds great and everything works flawlessly. Its just that i want to know if there is anything i can do to make it better?
Would putting an amp through my speakers make anything louder or clearer?
[All Answers]
it would make it both louder and clearer just as long as you dont over power the sub, and have it wired up at 1 or 2 ohms
Putting them on an amp will make it sound a grip better. Crisp, clean, loud, no distortion and if it is distorted you won't notice it.
Believe me, I've got CDT Audio components. I Turn the subs off and I can clearly clearly hear my music when I'm down at a friends house 4 houses a way, and it's not even turned up. I'm sending the speakers about 80 watts RMS.
With your "little amp and subs"
A 8" Kicker Solobaric L7 would sound great, if your not looking for hella BANG. I know it would sound good.
well if it sound good why u wanna spend more money again if u could buy other stuff for ur car.

What are the best makes of car CD Players?
[Question]
I was thinking maybe a Pioneer CD Player; http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_500617_langId_-1_categoryId_165474
What are some decent makes, apart from Sony, because I think Sony is purely brand power.
I would get Apline but they cost a load of notes and the government has been taking most of my notes lately.

JVC
kenwood and jvc are the best
that looks ok to me...not to snazzy or it will get stolen...good Choice.
me,ide have a couple of amps wired in as well.
i'd recommend JVC (had one before) and also panasonic (have a lot of my electricals with panasonic!)
Alpine...My Sony is pretty good but not mind blowing!! (and cats eyes make the CD jump!!)
Kenwood are good, Panasonic JVC or Pioneer are others.
Pioneer all the way. Loads more options.
Them new Alpine Decks don't even play CD's lol.
blunkpunt are a good make, think they are german.
I've got the DEH-4000 Pioneer. Brand new off Ebay for £25. Very recommended.
Pioneer, sony ,alphine, panosonic, philips are all good bose is the one to go for man or alphine worth saving for.
Cash+carry stores such as Lidl and Aldi often carry very cheap players, which also have USB and SD card slots... If you have a car with firm suspension and low-profile tyres, a CD can skip on all but the smoooooothest of motorways. Using the digital inputs such as your USB memory-stick or USB MP3, or storing your music on an SD card is much more convenient, you don't have CD's in the car which you have to change whilst driving, and of course, these solid-state, no-moving-parts sources are blissfully skip-free!
Lidl recently sold one for 25pounds, with a 4x25Watt output, amp pre-outs and switchable illumination, as well as USB and SD slots.

can i just connect my loc conv. wires directly to my rear speaker wire left and right ?
[Question]
no clue as to how to match the wires. (still no sound coming from my subs)
[All Answers]
I'm not getting stuff this morning.... I can't think what loc conv stands for.
But if you're saying you plugged your subs into the speakers?? Subs can't run off power from the deck.
Usually your wires will have a line through them representing the negative charge, or the red will be positive and the black negative.

Do cars play dvd-rw's? For instance the Acura TL, if so which years?
[Question]
I'm trying to buy a used car, but wanted an ipod integration but now i see older don't have that, i'm looking at 05-07 TL's and TSX's, please help
[All Answers]
Usually the deck will only play DVD if it has a factory DVD player or CD player with navigation.
I'd upgrade the head unit to a in-dash screen with iPod input. Then you'd get the best of both worlds. Be able to play your music videos, iPod, have all the controls at your hands with the speakers better than with factory radio.

how to convert burned cd from computer to play audio in the car?
[Question]
I was able to burn the CD from a Music saved in my laptop but the burnt CD doesn't play in my Car(Boss system). What possibly can I do? Do I need to change format? Thanks!
[All Answers]
First, does ur Boss System support MP3? What format did you burn the CD's music in? If your system does not support MP3, and you burned the music as MP3s, then your system cannot play it. In this case, you must burn the CD's in Audio format, not data (MP3s). You will definitely fit less songs on an Audio burnt CD in comparison to a Data CD burnt with MP3s.
normal audion cd's are writen in cda format, most writing progs,eg nero, will do it.some players only like certain types of disc...also burn it slow.
the way in which to tell what format you burnt them on the disc is definitely the number of songs, if its around 20 then you burnt an audio disc which will work on all cd players.
if around 200 then it would be an MP3 format and this will only work if supported by the cd player in your car.
(check the manual if unsure or look upn the model number on the internet)
HOPE THIS HELPS :)

whats so bad about hifinocs and crunch amps?
[Question]
what is so bad about them, ive seen quite a few of them.. some years old
why do people say they suck? what is so bad about them? ive seen those kind of amps last longer than kicker/rockford even some zapcos
[All Answers]
the rating is waaaay lower than they say.
If you have a 600 watt amp - 4 channel
150 watts per channel
In all actualitly your looking at a lot less than that with a cheaply made amp
More like 400 watts
100watt per channel
The length of use, power delivery, cooling, all are factors in a amps life.
I've also seen a few crunch, zapco, infinity, and other cheaper brands outlast the "big" name amps also, but you also get a lot more from them during that use period. And again the life span is all about care,
treat it like a electronic device and it will last for a long time, hook it up - toss it in the trunk and forget it, dont expect it to last long!!
I haven't really heard bad about these actually. I'd get a Hifonics amp right now if i really wanted to choose. Hifonics Brutus. I know that some of the older Hifonics and Crunch amp pushed out MORE power than it said.
A friend used a gauge and the amp was pushing out like 2 - 300 more watts than was specified.
i personally like hifonics amps. they put out a great deal of power

How to install a GM factory intergration adapter in a 2003 chevy silverado to a kenwood KDC-X792 system?
[Question]
i have a 2003 silverado ext cab. I am replacing the factory radio. I have ordered the gm factory intergration adapter. I can not find out how to install it. I have ordered the metra model. Where does it mount ?
[All Answers]
It doesn't have to mount any particular place, although I like to velcro it down or use zip-ties to make sure it won't be rattling when the vehicle's moving. The chimes produced by the module are loud enough that you'll have no trouble hearing them even if it's buried under the dash behind the radio. There's plenty of room behind the radio in a Silverado. Stuff it up behind the radio, or push it down behind the climate control module.
Everything should snap into the right place, if not it will fit perfectly there.

Would one sub sound unbalanced?
[Question]
would adding one subwoofer to the trunk of a car make it sound unbalanced or is two more ideal?
[All Answers]
All depends on the subwoofer it is. There are some the same size that will over power 2.
The only advantage to two subs is that it will be louder.
With subwoofers, there's no such thing as a "stereo effect". Having a right and left subwoofer doesn't do any good, because our ears can't pick out the source of deep bass frequencies. The bass in most musical recordings is effectively mono, and even if you have two subs, they're usually still run by a mono amplifier.
So, except for the difference in volume, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a single sub and two subs.
the higher the frequency, the greater our ability to tell where it is coming from. thats why you should 'aim' tweeters, yet put the subs wherevers convenient normally. one powerful sub is fine and will have more punch and attack then multiple units. if you dont need two then stick with one. you'll have less strain on your cars charging system, more space, and a lighter car
Some people only like one. Me I say put as many as you can. It will be louder if you have more if it's what your looking for. They will hit at the exact same time, as far as it matters it's all coming from the trunk.
That wouldn't matter. You could just run one sub if you wanted. It all depends on how much bass you want. There are some really good subs out there that would put out more sound than 2 subs.
