why do car stereos have removable front plates?
[Question]
[All Answers]
I was told that it's a theft deterrent - If you take the plate with you the radio is less desirable for them to steal.
The removable front plate is matched to the stereo. The stereo would be useless without the front plate. This would discourage many thieves.
To discourage theft for one reason.
A deck without a face is worth a lot less than one with.
A deck without the face is not completely worthless, but you must go trough the possess of getting a new one, and that may entail proof of purchasing that deck at a retail store, I'm not sure.
This will discourage a thief from taking a deck because they want quick cash, not to have to pay for a new plate to sell it.
So you're not showing off that you have a good stereo.. I was told.
less chance of some one taking it
It's to prevent theft. It's much easier to remove a faceplate and take it along with you, rather than remove the entire stereo unit. Either way, a thief looking through the window doesn't see anything worth taking.
To discourage theft.
If a potential thief looks in your car and sees a radio with no face plate he/she won't steal it. They can't sell or use such a faceless unit.
A stereo without the faceplate is useless and therefor has no value to a petty thief.
The removable faceplate is a theft deterrent but only works if you use it.
the one time that you forget to take the faceplate with you will be the same time when your radio gets stolen.
Some people use the logic 'out of sight out of mind' and put the face under the seat as if the thief won't look there.
most of the time aftermarket car stereos have removable face plates
so they dont attract the attention of robbers, since some of them tend to be flashy looking.
each stereo has a different face plate which only fits to that particular stereo, so if you take off the face plate when you park your car and hide it, a robber will not be able to recognize the brand and type of stereo you have, and will especially not be able to use it, since everything is operated through the face plate

Battery won't turn amp on?
[Question]
Alright. Well, I have a Rockford Fosgate amp, and all the wiring for it. I was gonna hook it up in my garage, as I haven't ran it for awhile, so I put the B+ wire on the battery positive terminal, and the Grnd to the negative, and it won't turn on. The battery is fully charged, and i'm 90% sure the amp works.. so I don't know what the problem is. My friend suggested that the Remote on the amp turns it on, and if so, how could I still hook it up using the remote? Any tips, tricks? I have a home stereo if I could use that as a Remote or something. But I also have a Kenwood deck, but how would I hook that up in my garage?
[All Answers]
amp is blown
Put a jumper wire between the B+ terminal and the remote terminal, and the amp will turn on. Remove the jumper, and it will turn off. Put a switch on the jumper wire, and you can turn it on and off.
kaezoo is right. You just need a 12v signal into the remote on.
They use the remote on to prevent your amp from running when the car is off and killing your battery.
i just want to say i dont really know, but i do know that KaeZoo is a expert at this, i would trust him with my car anyday. he is in my top three on here for advice, i trust his answer 100%, this is his kind of question no doubt.

i have two 10" pyle driver(each is 600 watts) what kind of amp should i use?
[Question]
[All Answers]
You need a amp that is close to 1200rms wired at the right load.
Belay the first remark,
That 600 watts is a MAX value, and you should never, NEVER, base your amp choice on that value.
Find the RMS value of the subs
And go find a cheap 2 channel amp around the same value of those 2 added.
(Cheap amp for cheap subs) :p
I am guessing the 600 watts is peak power. If that is the case then you would think 6+6=12 so I'm going to go get a 1200 watt amp, but I wouldn't do that. Considering most brands overrate their products I would not trust the power levels. Just to be safe and not risk blowing your speakers I would say an 800 to 1000 watt amp would push them and make them sound good. I would probably go with a Rockford Fosgate amp. If you do get an amp that is rated at 1000 watts or higher you should get a capacitor.

Is it legal to have a loud sound system in your car?
[Question]
Me and my nan are arguing over whether it is legal to have a loud sound system in your car is this true and what are the legal requirements
[All Answers]
if its to loud its against the law especially in the usa.
If it is causing disturbance to others around you can be issued with an ASBO and this has happened to persistant offenders.
It could be argued that at a high enough level you are too distracted from driving properly but in general most cops would just tell you to turn it down and then go over the car thoroughly to see if they can get you for something else.
Its perfectly legal to have it.
Doesnt mean its legal to play it at very loud volumes at all times, but you surely can have it.

Watts and amp question?
[Question]
If i got an amp and it was 1500W and i have speakers and subs that total 2000W hooked up will it be ok as long as i don't crank the volume?
I know there is a little more to it than Watts but in general would it work out fine?
[All Answers]
it will work but you wont get to hear the speakers and subs at its peak performance, it also depends on your rms of each speaker and sub also
in general only pay attention to RMS wattage ratings, peak and max rating really have no purpose other than marketing to the un-knowledged. with that said as long as a amps output is not greater than the speakers power handling you are o.k. and there is no such thing as under powering a speaker to a point of causing damage. under powering is exactly the same thing as turning the volume down, there is no harm in that. so in general 1500 watts to 2000 watts a good match, but as you said there is allot more to that. and that along is not enough to determine if your amp is a good match.
Good Luck.
