Rockford Fosgate or Kicker?
[Question]
Im interested in buying and i want to see some opinions.
[All Answers]
RF imo. I have an 8 spkr system in my car making 360w & it's great. Well defined bass with good mid range. I had Kicker before, but their amps were noisy & had a lot of back ground "hiss". My opinions.
How about some questions like:
What's better Rockford Fosgate or Kicker Amps?
What's better Rockford Fosgate or Kicker Subs?
What's better Rockford Fosgate or Kicker Speakers?
I am a huge cheapskate, and am looking for low end equipment, what's better Rockford Fosgate or Kicker?
I'm a baller and I plan on buying High-end equipment, money is no object, what's better Rockford Fosgate or Kicker?
These questions are much more specific. Perhaps someone will answer them.
I currently have a RF T-600 2, in my mustang with 2 Boston Acustic 10's an its sounds amazing. Used to have a old kicker 800 watt amp but it didnt quite sound as good as the RF. so imo RF but it really depends on what you are going to try to pair it up with.
Rockford fosgate makes the best amps on the market. Kicker subs are loud but RF's are more accurate.
I've always been a Rockford fan myself. I love Rockford stuff because the technology they put behind their products...but the Kicker stuff is good also. You probably can't go wrong with any one of these selections. As long as you get a good name brand like these you'll be fine.
for amps NO ONE comes close to rockford fosgate they have amps that range from 150 watts to a true 15,000 watts! and they are ALL underrated with the best sq in the business. as for subs i would stay away from both rockford fosgate and kicker. kicker makes very loud but awful sounding subs but there is definetly comanys that make louder subs with good sq (rd audio, tc sounds, maybe Fi..)

Ohms is resistance. The less resistance you have, the more power you get. Less ohms=more power. If you want a whole lot of just raw power, get 2 0hms, if you want clean, moderate power go for 4 ohms
You need to match the output of your head unit or amp. If the output is for 4 ohms, you need to use 4 ohm speakers. You can use higher ohm speakers, but the won't be as loud. If you use too low ohm speakers, you can damage your amp or head unit.
i know you said you dont need to know, but im gonna say it anyways, Ohms is resistance, for current to not pas through as much so granted less ohms would let less current through. but what you gotta look at is quality of speakers. for cars, Bose has always been good speakers, but they're expensive to. THX makes good ones to, it depends what kind of car you have to, i know the old explorers (97) have a pretty good stock sound system. Pioneer is good to, there's a few good companys, my best advice i can give you though is go to a best buy and go to there audio section and ask them. but dont go for their highest priced ones either, sounding one your posistion as a mom with lil kids and all, you could probly go with one of their cheaper but not cheapest set and youd be good. but try those speaker companys or even Dual, Sony, Xplode.
Less ohms are better. Ohms are the resistance, so the lesser, the more power you can run through.
BUT.... Wattage is what you'll be looking for.
100-200 watts would be reasonable if you want to just enjoy music with your kids, and still crank it up a bit.
Just go and have a listen to different speaker models in a store.
Or, changing to a newer cd player will also make your factory speakers sound like new ones.
Get 4 ohm for the door speakers..they are the standard and you don't have to worry about blowing the head unit's output...generally any stereo or amp can handle 4 ohm with out any trouble or risk.
I agree with what's already been said...the ohms must be matched with the output if the amp or receiver. Too low and the amp will get too hot and either blow a fuse or be damaged, too high and the performance will suffer but it's easier on the amp or receiver. Just will not be as loud.
4 ohm speakers on each channel of the receiver would be my recommendation.
OHMS are a measure of resistance..there are quality speakers made at both 2 and 4 OHMS usually for a car System you want to try and get 4 OHM speakers as this is the standard used in car systems sometimes though designers will come up with a better sounding speaker using say a 5.1 resistance pushed by a 4 ohm amp...but generally speaking 4 ohms is your safest bet in car audio...8ohm is the standard for home audio..

Can engine noise on speakers be caused by a cheap brand amp?
[Question]
I've tried using a Noise filter but wasn't successful.
[All Answers]
Hmm that's an interesting question. You might try insulating between your door and the speakers, via dynomat or something similar. In some cases feedback is quite common in speakers that face interference with the door. But engine noise...not to sure.
cheap brand amp can sound crappy. But engine noise is electrical intereference usually caused by either a bad ground connection or a crappy pre-amp output cable that isn't shielded.
Your RCA cables are too close to the power wires, move them and you'll be fine.
Engine noise on speakers normally means you have a bad ground. Try moving your amp ground wire to a better location.
Engine noise most definitely could be caused by a cheap amp but more than likely it's a ground loop problem. Here's some things that's worked for me in the past.
First- I'd make sure you have a good ground on the amp. Make sure the paint is scraped away on the grounding screw and that it's in a good location that is in direct contact with the frame of the car.
Second- try a ground loop isolator on your RCAs that should tone it down somewhat...it's a small box that fits in-line on your RCA signal path.
Third- Turn the gain down on your amp or signal processors a little. It also should help somewhat.
Fourth- Run power and signal down separate sides of the vehicle. Route signal RCAs away from power wires, wiring harnesses or other electronic in the car if possible.
Fifth- If the above doesn't work and you're still having that noise problem then it's more complex, and you'll need to start looking at the power plant in the car like replacing the spark plugs, plug wire, alternator, battery, battery wires, etc.

Do I need an amp for these subwoofers?
[Question]
Hi, I am looking into buying these subwoofers (http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_25000000000PLG54P?vName=Computers+%26+Electronics&cName=Car+Electronics&sName=Speakers#specificationsAnchor). Do I need an amp for these subwoofers?
Thanks
[All Answers]
Any Kind of subs that you decide to buy will need an amp to get the full potential out of them
Yes, most head units put out a very minimal signal and you will not be able to hear any bass ;) As well as the fact that if you direct wire it into the speaker wiring on the deck, the frequencies will be much too high to make any real bass come out.
Even a very cheap amp will at least get some bass happening.
ya you need an amp....you also need a boxing unit for those subs...
lol those aren't subs,
They are 5 inch mid bass woofers,
they look like they would be powered by a head unit (200w max ~50 watt rms), but you would loose highs from your old speakers
I wouldn't say these are efficient subwoofers......they aren't really big enough to produce very much bass. They would produce a little mid-bass but they are only 5 inch speakers and they would be ideal for door speakers or something like that. Just radio or receiver power would work for these but a small amp would be better. If I was using these, I would use them as midrange instead. It would really complement the tweeters and other midrange speakers in a system if you were to all a little mid-bass to the mix..

speaker question. help please?
[Question]
whats the difference between 2-way 3-way 4-way.
and what is the best "way" to purchase.
im looking for some good bass as well.
[All Answers]
2-way has 2 speakers on the one speaker. the main one is a woofer and the small one would be for treble. 3-way is the same but with an extra one for mids; etc.
Best way to purchase them is to go and listen to different models in a store, and pick the model you like.
You can either purchase them from the store or go and buy them wherever they maybe sold at a better price.
Da bess "way" tuh purchase wood be tuh go up tuh yuh locuh audio stow n aks dem.
It's the number of axillary speakers in the speaker body or package. These can be coaxial (all in one speaker) or separate (which is all individual speakers).
Example: a 2-way speaker is usually a midrange speaker (like a 4" or 5" speaker) and a tweeter. 2 speakers total.
Example: A 3-way speaker is usually a mid bass, a midrange, and a tweeter (most common example is a 6X9" or 6.5" speaker). 3 speakers total.
Example: 4-way speaker is usually similar with mid bass, a midrange, and two tweeters (most common example is a 6X9). 4 speaker total.
Get good name brand stuff and you can't go wrong.
This describes the number of drivers the speaker has...It depends on the quality of the manufacturing tecniques..I like 2 way systems myself because they are less complicated and simpler to manufacture correctly...but I've heard some arguments that three way are best because they handle more power and will produce more bass...The best are component speakers with a separate sub wolfer for bass. I think this is the way to go for top quality sound... The cross over in component speakers is far superior to what is offered other wise...
