Cheap Subs vs. Expensive Subs?

I am about to buy 2 15" Kicker CVRs. That would make 1000 watts RMS total. These things are pretty expensive. But there are also 15" subs for really cheap that are 1000 watts RMS each. Logic tells me to go for the cheap subs - they don't cost much and have tons of RMS watts. But then I look at these expensive Kickers that don't have near the RMS watts as the cheap subs. What's up with this?



If anyone has purchased cheaper subs, please let me know how they sound. Do they sound just as good or do they sound crappy? thanks.

sometime cheaper is better look at boss and m.a. audio brands they dont cost as much but do the same as the high brands

you can go with the cheaper subs but dont have your amp turn up all way or you will blow the subs and another thing i found out was that a good box for the subs make a huge differance so if you do decide to go with the cheap subs go with a good subwoofer box i would recomend a pro box and that is the name of it PRO BOX

I've never bought anything as big as a 15" but I have 2 10" fosgates...they sound really good and I put a 10" pioneer in a chevrolet silverado....the pioneer was alot cheaper than the fosgates but they had almost the exact same specifications...when installed in the exact same box they sounded almost the exact same...but you could tell the difference between the more expensive speaker and the cheaper but it wasn't an almost $100 dollar difference...this is also not considering lifespan of the speaker either....but the cheap sub did sound good...the more expensive sounded better but not really that much better...

Cheap subs are junk bro. Believe, i've been down that road. My first subs i picked up were real cheap but had just as high wattage as my buddies kickers. We had the same amp and there was NO COMPARISON. His blew mine outta the water. When you take the cheap route, you will constantly want more and more. I finally have a respectable system, but i wish i would have just saved up the first time. It is worth it to shell out the big bucks and do it right the first time. I promise it saves money in the long run.

Well the easiest way to find out is if it has a map dvd in it right now. If not, then it isnt dvd based.

If the machine asks you to insert the GPS DVD everytime you want to use it then it is DVD based.

Nope. It will sound like crap and have no depth or thump. Replace the whole system. It will be considerably better if you did.

Yes, you can get a hi-lo converter, and it will run them just fine, but you will notice the bass will sound a little shallow, because most OEM stereos don't have very good sub- 100hz response, simply because factory speakers can't extend that low, so you will need to be very careful with your adjustments, to ensure you get the correct sound out of the speakers.

I dont know about the subs. When sellers dont tell you the rms power of the subs, they are usually not a good brand. I have never heard of XXX myself. You would be better off buying a name brand. It costs more but in the end you will get your money's worth. Email me and i can help you find a good system for your money.

will you NEED one... no. However you will WANT one. Getting a better alternator will save you a lot of money on repairs down the road. Another thing you should definetly upgrade are "The big 3". If you dont know what they are just do an answer search and you will learn all about it. Good luck and keep da bass rollin!!
