[Question]
My boyfriend said that it was probably a fuse, i've checked the ones that are down near the floor board (i've heard there are some under the hood too?) i changed the audio one...nothing.
if anyone knows what could be going on, please let me know.
thanks.
oh yeah, i don't know if it will matter, but i have a 1994 honda accord.

thats exactly what i was going to guess... have a look at what you can get at without ripping things out and see if there is an obvious wiring problem, but if not id take it somewhere
CHECK YOUR WIRING HARNESS AT PLUG INS FOR A GOOD CONNECTION--------THAT AND FUSES ARE 99.99% OF PROBLEMS --------THE OTHER .01% WOULD BE BOTH THE RADIO AND LIGHTER BOTH STOPPED WORKING AT THE SAME TIME ------WHICH IS VERY UNLIKELY .
I've seen fuse boxes also (don't know about Honda, tho) on the side of the dash when you open the driver's door.
If you have the owner's manual, it should show a lay-out of the fuses, and where the fuse boxes are located.
If you don't have one, call Honda Corp. (I did this with a used Toyota, and the corporation sent me a new owners manual for free).
Hello, You can directly connect your stereo to the car battery using an in line fuse, this will let you see if the stereo is working or not, make sure that you earth the player, if this works you can then run a power source from the battery to the place were you install the stereo. Fuses may look ok but actually are not and there may be more than one issue going on in your electrics. you can check the earth at the battery and also the earth strap to the cars body it may need repairing or re sited as over the years rust accumulates and that's when things start to go wrong. Good Luck. Please remember if you decide to run a power supply from the battery this is where you connect the in line fuse. Also remember to use proper connecting wire and or Crocodile clips etc.

Im lookign to buy a sound system for my car?
[Question]
I'm going to purchase my first car and i want to get a nice sound system. My brother is giving me a cd tuner and im not sure what else i need. i would like a sub woofer in the boot, and speakers. I have no clue on exactly what i need and how to connect it. I dont want to spend too much but would also like something that wont break after a few uses or get distorted. Please help!?!
[All Answers]
The CD tuner may be useless to you if it does not have pre amp outputs as you would not be able to hook it up to the amplifier.
I suggest you get yourself along to a local car audio fitting place, most cities have one and talk to them there.

Hi,
Contact Beaver car Audio in Glasgow or on the web, these guys are on the ball, they sell a wide range of car audio products, you can hear the sound of the equipment before you decide to buy. Good luck with you search for the right audio equipment.
I agree, if you have no clue, don't try and do it yourself, you will end up wasting money and blowing up speakers and amps. I recommend going to the nearest audio shop and asking them to set you up. Tell them your budget and tell them you don't have a clue. They will totally understand. I've never had an audio system and im about to spend £600 on one and set it up myself. It comes at a price and excluding the £600 I spent it took weeks of research to find out how to set it all up. If I had the money (and didn't spend it all on the setup) I would have gone to a professional... But hey, a little extra knowledge doesn't hurt.

Can subwoofers play words or just bass?
[Question]
I got into an argument with this guy on youtube...and he says he had subs hooked up to play words and bass....is this true, can subs play words...i thought they only played high and low bass frequencies, but am i wrong??
[All Answers]
Yes subs can play words, but you usually can't hear them that good.
And the subs won't sound as good either, thats why you need a low pass filter to block out all the mids and highs.
Subwoofers often have a frequency response that extends up to 1000Hz or so. That's enough to cover the human vocal range, so yes, they can play voices. They just aren't very good at it; vocals from subs will usually sound muddy and unnatural. Also, in a car environment, subwoofers usually have to be placed behind the listener, because there's not enough room for them up front. If you're trying to set up a realistic sound stage in a car, it's a bad idea to have the vocal range playing behind you.
For these reasons, a well-designed audio system will include a crossover filter that prevents the subs from playing frequencies over 100Hz or so. You'll only hear voices coming from subs in a poorly designed (or incorrectly adjusted) sound system.
They can play words, but its not ideal in a good sound system. I don't want my sub playing words, I want it to thump and play my low notes.

Is 8 Gauge power/earth wire enough for D class Monoblock 800w Rms?
[Question]
I have a "Option Audio OAX801 D Class 800W RMS Monoblock car amplifier running 2x Sony 124P5B 12" Subwoofers (Rated: 380W 4ohm Peak: 1300W)
I am using 8 Gauge power and earth wires, is it enough for it? It has 4 Gauge inputs. I also get a loud thump from my subs when i turn the igntion on. Grounding problem????
thanks in advance

Personally I haven't heard of earth/power wires. But generally 8 gauge would be best for systems up to 400rms and 4gauge for systems 400-1000rms. I would get 4gauge power and ground. I really can't say that if the thumping noise is a ground issue but I would check to see if the ground is attached to bare metal on the chassis of your car. Peace
4 ga recommended. Can probably get away with the 8 ga if you don't want to rewire.
If you don't have any alternator whine, it's probably not a ground problem.
No. 4 ga min.

Where can i get cataloges from car audio companies?
[Question]
Pretty selfexplanatory
i already have crutchfields
[All Answers]
go to crutchfield.com and call or e mail them
Crutchfield should have a link on their website for requesting a free catalog. Its a good place to research new models. Just don't buy from them unless you want the free car installation stuff, cuz you can find most of their products cheaper elsewhere.
