what amp do i need for a 12 inch orion sub?...  its a 12 inch orion in a vented box made by orion. its 1000 max watts and 500 rms.

4)   lmao david c, man you need to go read a book or 2 bc you know nothing about car audio. Anyways the 12" orion produces 500 watts rms, so you will need a 500 watt rms amp to push it. Pay no attention to the peak power, bc it meens nothing. Is the sub the dual 2 or dual 4 ohm version?



If the sub is dual 4 ohm, wire the sub like this:

5)   Wire it up. See what it'll do.It'll be fun. Whatever amp you get, make sure the battery and alterantor can feed it and still have juice left to run the car. My feeling is anything above 50 RMS watts is wasted on disturbing the neighborhood. I mean to say, how much pressure does it take to make it sound real inside the small listening space? - don r

6)   1. Your sub can handle 500 watts RMS. For peak performance, you want to give it 500 watts RMS.



2. Boss is flea market junk, stay away. Plus, that amp only makes 200 watts RMS if you read the site.

Question 2
Off switch to car battery?...  Is there a device out there that would allow me to connect it to the battery, and be able to turn on/off the the devices to the battery.



--So in essence the device would restrict access to the battery unless the device was put in the "on" position. This way I would not be using up my battery at all, hopefully lengthening the life of a battery.



--Between the security system, the lights, and the amp the battery gets drawn down if I don't drive every 18 hours.

1)   well get another battery and hook it up directly to the amp and when you turn your car off nothing except for the alarm should take power. If it does then there is a short somewhere. Just unplug the + wire or red wire wen you turn off your car - david c

2)   If the amp and lighting system is wired correctly, they should not draw from the battery at all when the key is cycled off - and the security system does not draw anywhere near enough amperage to kill your battery in 18 hours. - LeAnne

3)   Yes you can have a "kill switch" installed Go to a pro shop and ask they will know what your talking about! another option is an aux. battary in the trunk for your sound system,and underbody lights that will power your extra stuff and take the strain off your cars battary they last a while even when the car is off(great for show cars)then are re charged by the alternator when you run the car just like your regular battary



you may also need a new battary it should not die like that..unless your using your acc.s when the engine is off or you have a constant connection to your battary from your amp and lights - ibjammin2009

4)   Get a split charge relay and another battery installed, you can then run your you amps rtc from the 2nd battery but your main battery will still be able to start the car. When the engine is running it will charge both batteries

5)   This would be a problem. The engine management computer would constantly need to update itself each day and the car wouldn't drive right. The amp's remote sensor wire needs to be connected correctly so the amp doesn't come on until the ignition is turned on. - don r

3)   no that amp isn't vwet good for what you need.



Look for a mono amp that puts out 400 watts RMS at 2 ohms.

or a 2 channel amp that puts out 200 watts RMSx2 at 4 ohms.



your subwoofer is rated for 400 watts RMS. so for the best results you want to match that.



you also chose a dual voice coil woofer, so you will either have to wire in parallel or series. parallel is best in this case if you choose a 1 channel amplifier.



If you choose a 2 channel amp, then you'll have to wire each coil to its own channel. which is why you want the amp to put out 200 watts at 4 ohms. with each coil getting 200 watts the total is 400. - RJ

4)   not going to look at the link. just match the rms of the sub to the rms of the amp. an for geez sakes dont buy from best buy! the charge wayyyyy too much for the lamest stuff. and car places too. best place is neither one of them lol - ooxj2000

5)   No, power acoustik is junk, and their amps dont even make the power they claim too. And yes, best buy is a huge ripoff.



If you get that sub, your best bet will be a 2 channel amp that makes around 400 watts RMS @ 4 ohms bridged. Easy to find...

2)   With a dual 2ohm sub you can either wire it to a 1ohm load or 4ohm load. So your actually looking a 1200x1 rms at 1ohm or 300x1 rms at 4ohm off the amp. - Chino

Actually, that amp makes 1200 watts RMS @ 2 ohms.



Thankfully, you can wire your dual 2 ohm subwoofer to 4 ohms, and that amp would make around 600 watts at 4 ohms.



Perfect match, and room to upgrade later if you want to add a second sub. I really like the older kicker KX amps with the fan.



These amps were a bit underrated, but they werent going to create much more than 1200 watts in cars with smaller stock alternators... - odinsragess

Question 5
Is there any way to play an Ipod through car speakers if there is not a radio?...  I have a '91 Honda Accord lx and my brother took out the original radio, wanting to install a newer/better radio. He got a friend to take the old radio out and the friend butchered the wires. Unable to install a new radio, I have been using portable Ipod speakers to play music. Is there any way I can hook up my Ipod (maybe by cigarette lighter?) to play through the speakers with out a radio? I don't really know that much about cars...

2)   iPods sound great on earphones, but there's not enough power to get much volume through a full-sized speaker. You can wire in a patch to the car speakers if you want to see, but you'll be very disappointed. Go to Best Buy and pick up a new stereo with an AUX in port, and have them install it for you. Get some improved speakers too. - don r

3)   you need to get a wire to rca converter and connect this to some of you speaker cables that will be in your dash, this will give you a phono jack that you can connect your ipod upto, but like someone has said ipod only gives out low power, this is one

4)   buy a 4 chan amp an wire all the speakers to it, then use rca cables to run the amp and it will come through the car speakers. but the reg car radio wires cant b that bad 2 where you cant run a new radio - ooxj2000
