I have a question about my new car radio...?

Question 1
I have a question about my new car radio...?...  Ok so i recently installed a new car radio ( JVC KD-R200 ) and when installing it into my 1996 mitsubishi eclipse, when it came time to hook up the +12V there was one wire from the old radio and 2 wires from the new one. i connected all together and it works but there is no memory. i have the instructions in front of me and it says to wire one of the 2 through the fuse box bypassing the ignition switch. i would like to know WHERE to wire it that is close to the radio it self and wouldn't running it straight to the battery drain it? thanks
ok yes i dont want a harness, i looked at bestbuy and they only got them online. i tried to hook it up to the red wire that was from the old radio, idk if the the fuse is blown because there is no power, but i cant get the fuse out, its got some weird thing on it.

1)   Running it straight to the battery wont drain it any faster than if you spliced into a power wire somewhere in your car. The radio only runs when you have the power turned on for your car - Stuart H

2)   Get yourself a volt meter. Your car wring harness already has the power lead you want. It should be the yellow wire you are wanting to connect form the radio - miiiikeee

3)   Did you not buy a wiring harness?

The 2 wires you connected together were the red and yellow wire right?

They should not be connected together, and I wouldn't recommend you trying to run it to your ignition just because it's too confusing, it's under your steering wheel along with 100s of wires. - sl0wm03

4)   Get you a volt meter. Then while the key is off test for the wire that gives you a 12v reading. Hook that to your yellow wire. Then turn your key on then look for test for another hot wire. When you find it. Turn your key off to see if it turns off. If it does, then hook it to the red wire. The yellow is memory and the red is for powering the stereo on. - Sid

5)   You should buy a wire harness for your car. it connects to your factory output to your stereo and gives you all new wires to work with. This is what you need http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120707001/Receiver-Wire-Harness.html?tp=736. This will give you the yellow(+12v continuous power) and the red wire( ignition wire). If you feel you have gone too far with your project or just do not want to buy one, find a fuse which powers something in your car that only turns on when your car in turned on, such as power windows, locks, or factory stereo fuse. Buy a fuse tap (you can find them at radio shack for very cheap) and use that for your ignition wire. That way your stereo will only turn on when your car is on like your power windows. - Grey

Question 2
is it possible to make a 4 ohm amp, 2 ohm stable?...

1)   only if the amp is two ohm stable - BOOGIE

2)   Most amps do 4 and 2 ohms, then alot of amps do 1 ohm too. - sl0wm03

3)   it is not possible to MAKE it 2 ohm stable. If it is 2 ohm stable, then yes, wire your subwoofers in a 2 ohm load. If your amp is not, do not wire your subs in 2 ohm because you will blow your amp. you can see if your amp is 2 ohm stable by reading the manual of your amplifier or looking up your amp online. - Grey

4)   I wouldn't run a 4 ohm amp at 2 ohm it could burn it up, not work at all, or weaken it. But there are many different ways to wire the subs and you can still have the 4 ohms the amp is stable at. If you have a 2 ohm sub try series wiring. - Swade

5)   Im assuming you are talking about a 2 channel amp. They are 2 ohm stable in STEREO mode,but only 4 ohm stable when bridged.



The only way to make a 2 channel amp 2 ohm mono stable is serious internal reconstruction... you are best just getting a different amp or different sub. - odinsragess

Question 3
What Gage speaker wire should I use for a 15" Alpine type R?...  It is a 15" 2 Ohm alpine type R with a 750 rms and 2000 peak.
Im just running this one sub off an alpine mrp-m850 amp. 800rms 1600 peak. I have more subs but on a diff amp.

1)   You can go with 14 - 16 gauge.



Then for a power wire, 1/0 gauge would be best, but 4 gauge would work good too. - sl0wm03

2)   you can always go big but don't go smaller than about 14 AWG - jack29

3)   The Best thing to have would be a 4 Gage power wire 4 Gage ground and 10 or 12 Gage for the wire to the subs from the amp. What type of amp do you have? How do/ will you have them wired? - Swade

4)   14-16 gauge is plenty for a short run from the amp to the sub. 10-12 gauge is overkill, you would never be able to tell a difference. - odinsragess

Question 4
2 10" Kicker Shallow Mount Subwoofer (amplifier question)?...  Im gettin to kicker shallow mount 10" subs. I want to run about 500W to each one of the subs, yes i know there rms is 400W but i think it can handle more. What would be a good amp to power these subs at a reasonable price, nothing over 400$

1)   well you need to tell us the impedance of the subs, (dual 2 ohm, dual 4 ohm, single 4 ohm, etc). But without knowing the impedance i can give one suggestion. the JL 1000/1 is 1000 RMS at like 1.5-4 ohms so if the subs could wire to one of those which im almost posotive it could then that would be a good amp. let us know what impedance the subs are and youll get more suggestions. - Mitchell C

2)   why not kicker as well? matching kicker speakers and a kicker amp should work very well. overpowering the speakers may cause severe distortion so dont push them too bad. sony explode should do well too for the amp - CARL G H

3)   Find an amp that runs 1000watts at what ever ohm you are running the two subs - BEAT DA TRUNK

4)   while the subs are nice, you DEF. shouldn't overpower them. They're SHALLOW subs, hence, SHALLOW enclosure. I think you be pushing them too hard. I also think if Kicker wanted you to give them that power, they'd have recommended it. Why not go with the 12"s, which could take the additional power, thus making it easier to find an amp that matches power/ohm impedance's better. - mr_marco_r

How can I improve radio reception on my Miata?...  I have a 1990 Miata. Stock radio has been replaced with Clarion radio/cd player. Antenna has been replaced. Wiring from radio to antenna has been replaced. Anyone have any luck improving reception?
