Question 2
Help with wiring a 2 ohm Kicker L7?... I had my sub wired 2 ohms "parallel" and it would cause my amp's protection light to come on. So then i wired it the 2 ohm "series" way and now my sub just doesn't hit like it used to.
My sub is a 2 ohm Kicker L7 and my amp is an Earthquake "T1000W/2" model.
So what would be the best way to wire this sub with this amp?
Answers
1) well its a 2 ch amp, and a dual 2 ohm sub. wire the sub in series, and bridge the amp. it might not hit hard but its the only way the amp is stable. other wise you can pick up a crunch 1000.1 for like $120 new and its stable at 1 ohm so you could do that, it would hit better - J
2) http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp - Cody
3) "J" Is a bit clueless, crunch is a bad brand, that amp wont do 1000 watts.
Wire the sub in series, bridge the amp. Its only 400 watts RMS, though, should still be decent.
Look here at option 2

Question 3
Did I blow my amplifier?... My Stereo system in my car suddenly stop working in the middle of a song. I didn't hear a loud sound or smell anything. I wasn't playing it to loud and I wasn't doing anything different than normal with it. It has worked for 1 year and all the sudden it stopped. It did this once before and my audio jack was loose, but I checked it and that's not the issue this time. What do you think is wrong?
Answers
1) Check the fuses. - LeAnne
2) check all wires on the amp (both ends of the wire) and if nothing is wrong pop the sub out of the box and check for good connection. if it still doesn't then idk hook a different sub up to it and see if it gets power. if it does than ur sub is blown - Cody
3) since you earlier had issues with audio jack, chances are the wires are stretched and broken internally. check the wire connected to that jack.
Since you did not smell or heard unusual, there are good chances that your stereo is working good. - Kiran B

where would I fit in?
where would I fit in?... A few friends of mine have been trying to figure out where do i fit within the social group. I'm also curious about this because this is something i want to know as well. Can you help me out?
I'm young, goofy, emotional, sensitive, occasionally unstable, fragile, understanding, depressed and depressing, weird, silly and a hell of a lot more. I'm usually down about things relating to my past most of the time, but i doesn't take much to cheer me back up. I tend to say what I'm thinking a little too much so if I say some scary, don't call 911 unless i do something bad lol. I like all kinds of music except country since it get me feeling all weird and sleepy. I like to play games and hang out with friends also, I also like to watch tv and hang all day on the computer. btw i really really really love food. I'm not fat! ( I weigh 145 even though i look slimmer than that) I'm 5'6 and completely brown girl lol. My taste in clothes is weird and is still in transition so don't call me a poser or other stuff. I'm a fan of emo, goth, punk, anime, metal, vampire etc. I really don't care how you look because that's not important. its what makes you awesome right??? (normally im wearing shirt, pants, chucks, and a black jacket.
I consider my self as a "?" lol, but my friends tend to call me weird because of personality. I'm just unpredictable if you don't know me very well.
"The ones with the biggest smiles have the saddest hearts."
i'd like to also mention that i dont try to fit any group. its a waste of time. I only wanted to know which group i'd probably get thrown into if i had no choice. Not only that, I always felt unusual hanging around them.
Like as if im out of place. Either i'm dressed nothing like them, or they do things im not a big fan of doing such as skippin school three days straight or running around in costumes.
btw almost all my friends are ghetto xD whenever they do something stupid, i tend to look away or just laugh. its ironic because my enemies at school are also pretty ghetto. I seem to attract all types of people since all my friends are very different from each other unless they are basically a group themselves. In most cases, i get caught in between two friends that dont like each other lol.
Also,
LET ME SAY THIS NOW.
NO I DONT WEAR MAKE UP.
NO I DONT HAVE SPIKEY HAIR NOR HIGHLIGHTS. MY HAIR IS NATURAL COLOR AND I DONT PLAN ON DYING IT. NO CUTS, NO NOOSES. BASICALLY I LOOK COMEPLETELY NORMAL AND PLAIN LOL

Speakers, Amplifier ? :S
Thanks in advance.
(when i say mains supply i mean, normal house plugs)
Answers
1) you need to find out what you're asking first as 'mains' can mean anything from main circuit of electricity (which you don't connect speaker to) to main spseaker set, which is a little uncommon.
crutchfield.com has much in the way of diagrams, manuals and other helpful info as well as parts, supplies and of course componants. ised them many times when i couldn't find specific parts for difficult installs like subaru. - ez80227
2) what is the mains supply? - b_unit
3) you would need a 12v power supply to convert house voltage (120v) to mobile electronics voltage of 12v. you can then power a car amplifier which would run your speakers. you could also just connect car speakers to a house amplifier, but you need to keep in mind that most car speakers are 4ohms and most house speakers are 8 ohms. you could over-load a house amp and cause it to fry. - Allen H

how do i hook up subs to a stock 04 cavalier radio?... i like my stock radio in my 04 cavalier but i do like my bass though too. i dont want to replace my stocker since its perfectly fine but i dont kno how to install the amp to it. anybody with links or instructions please help thanks
Answers
1) you don't - jc102800
2) if you can find the rca cables that will hook up to your back speakers that would work out great. but still your best bet will be to go to the local car audio shop and ask - Grant
3) To hook a sub to a factory radio, follow the manual for the power and ground hook up. The two main differences will be the audio signal and the remote. The Audio signal needs to come from a speaker. Many people tend to splice into the closest speaker according to sub placement. You will either need what is called a line driver, an amp that accepts speaker line inputs, or the is a trick to splice an common audio wire and turn it into an RCA. For info on using an RCA with common audio wires, hit me up at silk1430@gmail.com
The remote wire needs to be attached to a 6-12V source that comes on only when the radio is on, the car is on, or attached to a switch. - Silk S

Why is it good to grind off the paint to install the ground from a car audio amplifier?
Why is it good to grind off the paint to install the ground from a car audio amplifier?... Does this give you a better output...or is it do nothing at all?
Answers
1) you want metal to metal contact since metal is a MUCH better conductor than paint. - Hitchhiker
2) It ensures that the ground makes a good connection with bare metal. Paint doesn't conduct as well as metal, so it's best that it is removed before the connection is made. - John C
3) Because paint is a insulator, and it's always best to ground a bare wire to bare metal. - Capt Morgan
4) You need the ground to work at all. If you don't grind the paint, the connection is bad, and you will have problems. Metal needs to touch metal, and the paint will block the current. - lb
5) You need a good ground,
and paint can interfere with that,
just like the negative battery cable on a car needs a good ground or it wont start, - matt_cruz@sbcglobal.net
6) You need to be down to bare metal so that you have a good ground connection. This allows the electrical current to complete the circuit. If you do not have a good ground connection your amp may work only intermittently or not at all. - Mike
7) iujghjbjkn - purple hippos dance occasionally
8) You will not be obtaining an optimum ground unless you remove the paint. What you should do is sand off the paint, install your ground, then paint over it. That way you have your metal to metal optimal contact, and you also have rust preventative paint. Optimally, what you would do is place a small distribution block for power and one fro ground nearthe battery and run everything to those. Of course, putting a fuse at either end for short circuit protection. - rivermikerat
9) In a larger, higher power set up, A solid ground will make all the difference in the world. In a smaller, lower power system, you may not even draw enough current to notice a difference.
In most cases, It will just cause the amp to run a little less efficiently, limiting the power output to match the amount of current that can be supplied.
In extreme cases, It can cause equipment damage and even fire. As the current draw exceeds the capacity of the ground heat will be produced as a byproduct.
As a general rule, it is always a good idea to sand the paint from any grounding surface. Whether you are running 150 watts or 15,000 watts. - JMann
10) Also its best if ground is kept under 3 feet long.putting a ground on a painted surface is like connecting your speaker wires without stripping off the wire.same idea. - decibaldude

Question 2
Does playing radio in your car take up gas?... Does it use up your gas to listen to radio in your car?
Answers
1) no - ken k
2) Technically Yes, some people will disagree.
With engine running, anything in your car that uses electricity will put a load into your alternator, therefore making your engine work harder.
But the radio does not use that much, so it will be negligeble
And ofcourse not, when your parked and engine not running, it will just drain your battery. - AL M
3) only if the car is turned on and running - Erics Towing & Auto Sales Inc.
4) Yes it does, but not enough that you would ever notice.
To operate, the radio uses electrical energy that has been stored in the battery. The energy was put there by the alternator which is turned by the engine, so some small portion of fuel burned in the engine ends up powering the radio. - PimpMyRide

Question 3
Do I need an amplifier if I want to put a sub in my car?... If I want to put a subwoofer in my car that doesn't already have one, do I need to purchase an amplifier too? Or is it just recommended?
Answers
1) yes and no. it depends on the stereo unit that you have i know that pioneer make thier internal amps with a built in cross over so that you can bridge the rear speakers to make an subwoofer output. but if the head unit isn't made that way then yes you will need to buy a separate amp for the subs. - jeremy m
2) yes you need an amp for sure,if you try without amp will burn your radio for sure, plus the bass will be so weak - peter pan romania
3) i would buy a amp. an amp kit. you really don't want to under power a sub because it can cause damage to it. and a big plus is it will sound so much better. - Audio Fan
4) you dont NEED one but not getting one would make getting a sub pointless cause your going to need alot more than 20 watts rms (which is what most good decks put out) to push any sub.. so if you dont get one it wont be loud at all you probably wont even notice a difference. - stumuffin8493

Question 4
Is this the right car amp I should be getting?... Hi, I dont know to much about car audio. I just purchased a set of subs (brand : Dual) in a box (2 subs) each with a 375w peak. What size amp should I get for it? at the moment I am thinking of getting a 600w amp and a 1 farad stinger capacitor, is that going to be enough?
Here is the link to the subs stats (I believe they are the DS10's) : http://www.dualav.com/mobileaudio/dsseries.php
Thanks.
Answers
1) The 600 watt amp should do fine with the subs. The cap is just a waste of money and won't help your system in anyway. - Chester
2) he's right. a 600W amp wont drain your electrical system near enough to spend money on a capacitor. that amp will work just fine though. might i suggest a banpass box too. smaller powered subs work well with these. - jake
3) a 600 watt amp would push those duals just fine, if the peak is 375 watts, an easy rule is to cut the watts in half to find what they would run at. some subs run at less than half of there peak. as it goes for a capacitor, i wouldn't get one if your only running 600 watts. if you don't have any electrical upgrades then i would stay under 1000 watts so that your alternator will live a long life. - Audio Fan
4) the best speaker system is your voice - c2112d

Answers
1) for less distortion under a heavy load output you SHOULD use gold plated terminal connection screws...brass or copper would be good too....any metal screws will work but if you use just "ANY SCREW" try to use nickel, copper, brass or gold plated terminals - Dustin
2) you can pick up those screws individually at most radioshacks or car audio stores. make sure you get the right sizes though. - jake
3) Just get screws that fit from the hardware store. Any difference in sound quality would be so infinitesimal- especially in a noisy environment like a car you could never even hear. - don r

Answers
1) Awful idea. First off, four channel amps are primarily for interior speakers and not for subs. They seem to not hold up so well (had a friend in high school with a power acoustik amp that blew in a few months running subs).
Second, power acoustik is a cheap flea market brand with fake power numbers. Not even close to 1800 watts.
And lastly, dual 4 ohm subs dont work well with a four channel amp.... You will have to wire them in series, bridge the amp, but the subs wont be getting a lot of power. - odinsragess

Question 2
Can I overpower Subwoofer by 100Watts RMS ?... I have an alpine MRP-M650 amp that outputs 400Watts at 4Ohms RMS and 600Watts RMS at 2Ohms. I want to hook my Alpine Type R 10" Subwoofer Dual voice coil 4 Ohm to my alpine amp, but the RMS rating for the subwoofer is 300-500Watts RMS. If I hook the sub up to my amp, the amp will output 600Watts RMS (100 Watts too high). Should I just hook it up and turn the gain way down? Is there another way to wire my subwoofer so that I can only draw 4Ohms from my amp? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Answers
1) Most of the time only going over the recommended power by a little is ok. I wouldn't push the sub with the full power of the amp, but it wont hurt if the amp is only roughly 50-75% of the way up. Excess clean power is better than too little clipped or distorted power. - Wesley
2) You won't be able to wire it up to a 4 ohm load properly. You can simply wire it to a 2 ohm load. If you set the gain properly you will be fine.
Use the links to learn how to set the gain properly. As long as you do this and use a proper enclosure you will be fine...

3) It depends on whether you want SPL (loudness) or SQ (quality) or a mix of the two. SPL is better suited to vented or ported boxes with a relatively high tuning frequency. Quality sound normally comes from sealed boxes. If you want both you will need a ported box with a fairly low tuning frequency. - Wesley

Question 4
I just want to add a thump to my stock speakers. what do i get?... I have a 2002 v6 mustang coupe, with the stock mach speakers. What good and cheap way can i add bass. What do i need and how much will it run me? Subs, boxes, wires? I dont want to replace the stock speakers, im on a budget and they sound decent. Plus be thorough on the explanation, im clueless on the tech stuff. Thanks.
Answers
1) I left the stock speakers in my car. Then added an amp and sub woofers. You can get cheap ones or used ones for kind of cheap, but I spent thousands of dollars and my entire system. This was just because I purchased expensive products. This include a 1000 watt amp, 2- 12" subs, a deck (cd player), a plexiglass box to hold the sub woofers, and the wires and installation. If you just add subs and an amp you can do it for a couple hundred. - OhiosGirl
2) It really depends on the amount of bass you want and if you want loud bass or quieter bass with more quality. If you are wanting something with a lot of bass and high sound levels you will want something from 10 to 15 inches with a decent sized amp. If you just want to add a little bass to even things out, and aren't out to set SPL records an 8" or 10" speaker will be plenty.
With the larger, louder setup you are probably going to spend around 500 dollars depending on the quality of the products and where you get them. If you want the smaller system you can get by with anywhere from 150-250 dollars, once again depending on what and where you get the stuff.
You will need the following items:
Wiring kit
Amp
Sub
Box
With a quality oriented setup a 100 to 150 watt RMS amp will be plenty and all you will need is a small sealed box. For the loud setup much more power will be required and you may want to go to a ported box, but a sealed one will still work.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask I'll help any way I can - Wesley
3) if you want it to be simple, i would recomend bazooka, they have speaker tubes with built in amps, they save space, are easy to hook up, and sound great when done right. you can run just one and add another later. they have great sound quality and not to pricey. if you are wanting a loud deep bass that will rattle your whole car i would NOT recomend these, they are intended just to add a little more thump to your system. - Scott H

Question 5
how do i connect my power wire running from my amp to my truck battery?...
Answers
1) with wire and connectors....go with at least a 4 gauge cable - trucker01940
2) Crimp the proper terminals on, make sure you have a fuse in line within 18" of the battery as well, don't run it through the fenders or through any sharp metal. As for the ground, no more than 3' long from the amp, and attach it to a clean paint free part of the chassis, its ok to scrape the paint of a spot if you have to. - Rob

Installing a cb radio?
Installing a cb radio?... Hey i'm just wondering how would you install a cb radio I know about the fuse box trick but my fuse box is right. to the right off my batt lol.... so the what i did just for a test is i took the two ends and put them in the power out let white on the edge and the black in the middle and yea power it works but now i'm wondering is there something that i can buy to hook up the wires to so i can plug it in when im using it and unplug it when im not to the power out let??
Answers
1) most cars and trucks have a 12 volt outlet (looks just like the cigarette lighter on older cars without the lighter) you can get an adapter at wal-mart that attaches to your positive and negative leads from cb. that with a magnectic antenna allows you to pop it in and out in no time. - befr3
2) if you have a working cigarette lighter plug you can go to wal mart, in the automotive section, or to any auto part store and get a 12 volt accessory plug. it will look like a standard cigarette lighter plugin for a car charger, etc, except for the fact that it will have two wires sticking out of the end of it. one will be a ground and one will be a hot wire. the box will tell you which wire is which depending on which wire has a tracer color on it. you will connect the power wire on your cb radio to the power wire on the accessory plug and the ground will go to the ground the same way. now you can just plug your accessory plug into your cigarette lighter to power your cb radio. it works great and is very very easy to do. i have had the cb in my truck set up this way for 7 years now and it works great. hope this helps. - offroadjunkie
3) yep. thats what i do, electronics store- parts store- should have the plug that goes into the power outlet or cig. lighter socket
. just need to be sure you get the pos. / neg. right. - J
4) Auto parts stores sell 12 volt cigarette lighter plugs that you can wire into the radio wires. A stock CB draws less about 1/3 amp, so they should be fused for 1 amp and no more. The average cigarette lighter has a 10, or 15 amp fuse, so the radio could fry before the fuse blew. Find a plug that has a built in fuse and use a 1 amp fuse in it. Then you just plug it in when needed.
You can also use a power cord that has a built in fuse holder. (Most CB's came with power cords that had them) Then it's just a matter of connecting to ground (- is supposed to be the black wire) and the ignition switch "ON" or "run"position wire. (+ is usually a red wire, although I have seen a few use white.) (everything except British cars that require special radio hook ups because they use + for ground and - for power.) - dallenmarket

Question 2
I am going to run FOUR 18" Fi BTL's, what amps should i use?... Four Fi BTL's in my expedition behind second row. Either a wall or a box. Im thinking wall. I want to run about 2500-4000 watts per sub. Perfering 3000-4000ish. I was looking into the Sundown SAZ-3500D and also the Rockford Fosgate 400001. Any suggestions? I will be upgrading my electrical, as in new high output alt, several batt's, Big-3 upgrade. I want to hit high numbers on the TL. =]. Also i dont want to spend like 1500 per amp. I think thats the most ill pay per amp unless the amp gives out a true like 8k watts or somehting crazy. Thanks for the help,.
Answers
1) if i was you i should go with the rockford amps

2) http://www.audioque.com/aq/index.htm

3) So is this going to be a strict competiton setup or do you want to have a daily driver that you can compete very well? If you let us know exactly what you are looking for from this setup we can help you a little more in-depth.
The BTLs can handle a ton of power but 3000-4000 watts is too much for anything other then a short burp. Some people may say their sub has handled that much but it is typically only in a competition or for a short burp. Running that much power to a sub while listening to music is going to blow it.
You will need more then one high output alternator for running that much power. A bank of batteries is good for competing but if you are listening to this while your truck is running you will need a lot of power from your alternators.
The enclosure you are going to need is going to be huge so a wall is probably the only way to go. To get the most output you should be on the higher end of what FI recommend which is around 9-10 cubic foot per sub. The enclosure is going to need to be braced extremely well. Doing some more things such as adding a few layers of MDF or using fiberglass resin on the inside would be a good idea.
If you plan on doing this yourself (meaning not having a shop do it) then I would recommend looking at some other vehicles like this. One that comes to mind is Steve Meade. Looking at those vehicles will give you an idea of what you need to do for setting up a system like this.
Sundown makes good amps, I would recommend it over RF.
Good Luck!!! - MDC

Question 3
Question about car audio concerning subwoofers?... I am going to install subwoofers in my trunk. How many should I get? What kind of amp and how many should I get? I am going to be listening to rap music with this. I am trying to get these things to thump. I mean I really want to ruin my reputation in my neighborhood. Help me out please.
I am buying from crutchfield.com
I have a 96 chevy lumina
Answers
1) I would reccomend 4 my grandmaw listens to rap music and she has 4 in the back of her red jeep. Also i would reccomend replacing all the glass windows in the car with plexiglass because it can cause regular glass to shatter. My grandma had her stero system about 2 days and all of her windows shattered and she replaced them with plexiglass and now has no problem with glass breaking anymore.
Hope this helps!
Feel free to email me at piboy977@yahoo.com for information on this or a similar topic - pieboy977
2) What is your budget?
I would look at other places then Crutchfield for subs. I would look into FI Car Audio to start with. There are many other good sub manufacturers out there but what would be ideal depends on your budget. FI makes good subs that will give you the output you are looking for.
http://www.FICarAudio.com
How many subs you should get depends on your budget. If you are on a fairly tight budget I would recommend getting one good sub. Everytime you double the cone area you gain 3db so having two subs over one is not usually a big difference. Also, every time you double the power you gain 3db. Those are theoretical values so the actual gain is less.
That is not a huge gain in loudness so it may not be worth it to have multiple subs. I would recommend getting one good sub over two decent ones.
The amp you should get depends on what sub(s) you choose. So choose a sub then look for an amp. That is typically a good way to choose your system.
Good Luck!!! - MDC
3) Alright here is the layout of my system, I've gotten two tickets for it by the way. I have two 12" kicker comps 300 RMS 4ohm. They are bridged on a 1200 watt Power Acoustik Gothic Series amp attached to a 3 farad capacitor. One cop told me he could here me blocks away and another said I rattled his windows. I've actually even set off a car alarm of someone parked next to me. I paid about 1000 dollars for the system years ago so you should be able to pick it up a bit cheaper now. - Raptor

thank yoou so much! i never knew there was a fuse box in the van! i replaced the burnt fuse and it works like a charm! THANK YOU!

1) Could be any number of things from corrosion in the outlet not allowing a good contact to a bad or disconnected wire for power or ground. Some of the outlets use contact of their metal edge to metal in the vehicle for ground. (Where the inner metal cylinder of the outlet screws into the metal ring in the console, dash, etc.) These can loosen and lose contact or corrode quite easily. - dallenmarket
2) Theres probably more than one fuse box, most fords have one inside and one uder the hood check them both, for the cigarette lighter the fuse is going to be one 15 amps or more. - Rob

The underpowering is not a problem but just add on some coaxials or something to use up the extra wattage soon, or you will have two big 12" magnetized paperweights (your subwoofers). - Dakota D
3) if it sounds like its going to blow up, its going to blow up. - susan
4) I vote you add one more alpine mpr-m500... you could take down a house wit dat. - Ro J
5) ask a freind to help install your components or to help supervise. an awsome site for installing would be http://www.installdr.com/
the first three answers on your thread are retarded. I like the Ro J's answer. - ptcruisher2001
6) This depends on the way you wire it, and what the Kicker subs can handle.
The alpine amp can push 500watts at 2ohms, but only 300watts at 4ohms. If you want to get maximum performance, you'll have to read up on your particular woofer to find out the ohm rating, and you'll have to read an article or two on dual voice coil subs.
This is a list of different possible setups.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-zJfY0R3ZaDO/learn/learningcenter/car/subwoofers_wiring.html
This is what you will need for your setup.
http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/2DVC_2-ohm_mono.jpg
This also assumes that you will be achieving 2ohms. You also plan on using two different amps. This could complicate things.
Thi - Jordan J
7) Wow... SUCH bad answers to your question, sorry there are so many morons around here.
Anyways, it depends on what model CVX. If you have the dual 4 ohm models, you are fine. However, you need the dual 2 ohm models for a zx1500.1
So if you have the dual 4 models, the alpine MRP's will work, but not for the zx1500.1. And the dual 2 models will work with the zx1500.1
But, if you do have the dual 2 ohm model, you can wire them up for a 4 ohm load, only giving your subs 300 watts.
Confusing? Yes, "ohms" is a confusing topic for newbs... email me for more help. - odinsragess

Question 2
How to wire a single dvc 2 ohm subwoofer to have a 2 ohm load?... Each voice coil is 2 ohms.I want a 2 ohm load Because my amp is a 600w rms and 2 ohms and I need the power
Answers
1) Are you sure that that's power and not simply a psycho example of impotence? - Mary
2) Sorry but it isn't possible you can only wire a DVC 2 ohm woofer into a 4 or 1 ohm load. - Tim
3) 1) Exchange your sub for one with DVC 4 ohm voice coils.
2) Get another identical sub to the one you have. - PimpMyRide
4) i agree with tim below - josh
5) Hey there,
Assuming that your subwoofer is less than 1200 watts RMS, your best bet is to wire your sub in series (4 ohms).
If you wire it in parallel it could very well blow your amp, and if you wire it to a single voice coil it will most likely blow that coil (also both these options will result in slightly poorer sound quality than wiring in series).
I wouldn't be be very concerned about not squeezing maximum power out of your amp. It is true that a 2 ohm stable amp running into 4 ohms is theoretically running at half it's potential output, however, because amps have regulated power, and because it takes ten times the power for a system to sound twice as loud, the difference between running at 4 ohms and running at 2 ohms is not huge (it even has slightly lower distortion at 4 ohms).
In fact, my current setup is a 600 watt 4 ohm stable amp driving a 15" dvc sub wired to 8 ohms; it sounds great.
If you do want to maximize power output, you might consider getting a second sub (that is either another 2 ohm dvc or 4 ohm svc) and wiring both at 4 ohms, then wiring them in parallel to your amp to achieve a 2 ohm load.
Hope this helps,
Dom

For example: will they be louder if wired to 1 ohm, or if wired to 4 ohms? sorry if this is hard to understand...
Answers
1) put them in Parallel - ptcruisher2001
2) Are the subs dual 4 ohm or single 4 ohm? I am guessing single since the rms is so low... I would recommend running them close to the rms that jl audio gives you. The subs will last the longest that way. The lower the ohm load the better, and I did a wiring wizard on fosgates site for 2 single 4 ohm subs, and you can run them in parallel to get them down to 2 ohms at the amp. This will be plenty of power for them, and will be the most efficient since you can not get them down to 1 ohm... - d_monie3
3) Wire them for 2 ohms. If you don't know how I will explain it. It's very simple. On the speakers connect with speaker wire + to + and - to -. Then bridge your amp and connect + wire to 1 speaker and - to - on the other. This should give you max power from your amp. - 1luvsingledad

1) With the factory bose system , your options are limited. It is difficult to add components to that system. The bose systems typically have built in amplifiers. Your best bet is to go to a reliable car audio retailer(not best buy) and talk to the salesperson, he can let ya know what all you would need. Good Luck - LAWL
2) with these complicated factory systems there is an option that isn't used much you can cut and split the cord on a set of rca wires and tap them into your regular speaker wires to acquire your sound signal and then its business as usual hooking the rest up this method would be a plan b though if you come across any other options i would look into them first but this way does work if you have no other options i have had to do this before in my ford focus it had a great factory radio and i only wanted to at a sub without an aftermarket head unit and this is about as easy as it sound you just cut one end off strip the insulation back and hook the pos and neg to pos and neg of the speaker and your speaker can remain hooked up as well so your factory system wont be affected as it only takes a small amount of power away from the speaker to send to the amp - jonkclifton
3) yes with a 10" subwoofer you have to have a amplifier man you cant tell that thing sounds all disorted and sounds crappy???
subwoofers have to have a amplifier to power them properly your factory stereo is only built to run small highs and mids it cant handle a subwoofer and as far as what amplifier to get you need to find out the specs on the subwoofer like how many watts RMS it is and match the RMS of the amplifier to the RMS of the subwoofer..........
also you need to find out if your stereo has a amplifier hooked up already and bypass it its not in your stereo it should be in your trunk or uner a seat or something........
and the last thing you need . At your local wal-marts they sale a little box for about 12 dollars. it converts regular speaker wire output to rca for your amp. - SPOOK 812

Question 4
Alpine type r in a sealed enclosure?... so my options are
12" alpine type r 500W RMS in a sealed box
or a 12" Kenwood KFC-w3012 400W RMS in a ported box
why? If i get the kenwood, its about $110 cheaper than the alpine, therefore i'll have the extra dough to throw down for a ported enclosure.
both would be powered by an Alpine mrp m500 300W rms @ 4ohms.
which sounds better?
Answers
1) twin 12" alpine R's
but you'll need a huge amp to power those bad boys.(1000w RMS)
you can usually find 2 alpine R's on ebay for 200$ ish,
DO NOT get a ported box, they tear up your subs, and shorten the life significantly, also they sound like crap :(
Buy a sealed box, their cheaper and have a better sound - Jason
2) What type of sound are you looking for? That will determine what subs would be ideal for you...
I would consider looking into AudioQue. They are going to be very good equipment and well priced. You could also look into FI Car Audio. Both companies make good subs and can give you better performance then a Type-R. You may not have heard of the companies but they are well known in the car audio world (google them for reviews).
www.audioque.com
www.ficaraudio.com
Jason, a ported enclosure does NOT shorten the life of your sub. It also does NOT mean your sub will sound bad. If you have had an experience with either of these this is due to improper installation/enclosure specs. A ported enclosure will have very good sound quality depending on the specs used and the subs you have.
A ported enclosure will not damage your subs in any way as long as you do not exceed the sub's thermal or mechanical limits. If you do either of these this is due to an improper installation or enclosure size. It is not because a ported enclosure is used.
Good Luck!!! - MDC

1) if they are looking for bass go for a 15" 1500 watt Kicker powered by a 1500 watt or 2000 watt dual port kicker amp. - J-Money
2) it would depend on if there dedicated to racing or just a weekend warrior a large powerfull system would be loud but would also weigh the car down iin turnmaking it slower smaller magnets overall size and power handling would lighten the load but smaller speakers doesn't mean you have to sacrifice qualliy many brands now offer slim line subs for just this purpose that is under the assumption you are looking for that part of the system in dash dvd players are a nice addition now days as well - jonkclifton

Car subwoofer box. sealed or ported?
Car subwoofer box. sealed or ported?... Which one is better a sealed box or a ported box?
Answers
1) ported- louder but more distortion
sealed- not as loud but cleaner sound - eric the man
2) It's really all about personal preference. If you want a cleaner, more crisp bass then go sealed. If you want some extra SPL (bass), then go with a ported enclosure. Also, if you're ported enclosure is tuned right and everything is made to the facotry's recommended specs than it should also sound pretty clean. So, in most cases I'd recommend ported. - Erik
3) Depends on our setup; I always liked ported box because I had my set up in my truck and there wasn't a lot of room and sealed rattled the truck box. If you have a trunk, you might get more bass response out of sealed, but get clearer mids with ported. - Guitar WarLord.com
4) A sealed box will give you a faster response. A ported box can be designed to produce a certain freq. But wont have as fast return rate as the sealed box. (heavy metal) or (rap). If you listen to both. Go with the ported box. - tomslik

Question 2
does playing music too loudly ruin speakers?... I was home alone today and for some reason I decided to test out my speaker system in my living room. I have a very quiet house lol and nobody really likes loud music. so i had to take advantage of being home alone. The brand of my speakers is Definitive. They're definitely not some cheap set of speakers. I played the music loud enough to a point where they would annoy the neighbors, but I could have gone WAY louder. If i try this, will by speakers get ruined? I want to blast my music so bad. I played some house music because its usually loud.
Answers
1) I definitely would not recommend keeping them on high volume for a long period of time, and don't max them out or you may blow them. Speakers like that aren't designed to handle extremely loud music. - Carl
2) I would not recommend it. You can tear the speakers and the tweeter with such loud volumes for a long period of time. - Bonkers D. Bobcat
3) If the power output of the amp is less than the rating on the speakers, you'd likely be OK. However, amplifiers begin to "clip" at high volumes and the sound wave becomes distorted. Distortion DOES ruin speakers (if they are also being pushed to high volumes at the same time) Its never a good idea to turn the amplifier all the way up, even if you think your speakers can handle it. Speaker damage is forever! (Hmmm, just like hearing damage!) - Saxster
4) This is a DUH question! Did you even think before asking it? - Jason

Question 3
whats this crap called?... i own a 99 saturn and the right speaker rattles really bad i know its not blown cause i can feel the vibrations against the seat but the rattleing is so bad u can just tell its there and my cousin told me to get this foam spray stuff please tell me what its called dont tell me to get anything else u please help
Answers
1) If it is a crackle, it is dirt in the speaker coil. Gotta replace it. If it is rattling like something is loose, just find the loose part and tighten it. It is possible that the speaker is torn and the torn pieces are rubbing together, causing it to sound like a rattle.
There are tons of sound deadening materials out there. Expanding foam will fill the area and might push against the speaker, causing it to not work. If it is in the door, your windows might not roll down. be careful.
BTW, that is a long sentence. - lb
2) Is it possible there could be fragments of something sitting on the cone causing it to rattle?
Not sure which one you can get but one I know of is called Expanding Foam . - pat j
3) I would guess the speaker cone is all raggedy from being blasted. Spray foam would be the worst thing to put on it. Replace both speakers and you won't regret it. Great Stuff comes from hardware stores and places like Home Depot and other building supply outfits. Before too long the other speaker will fail and you'd have just the worst most embarassing sounding mess in your car. When you open up the panel to replace the speaker look for other loose hardware and fix or remove it. - don r

32 Watt Audio Amplifier menggunkan IC TDA2050
Voltage gain is 27dB as shown, but this can be changed by using a different value resistor for the feedback path (R4, currently 22k, between pins 2 and 4). The amplifier must not be operated at any gain less than 10 (20dB) as set by R4 and R5, as it will oscillate. In some cases, an inductor may be needed in series with the output to prevent instability with capacitive loads (10 turns of 0.5mm wire wound around a 10 Ohm 1W resistor). The most common capacitive load is the speaker cable itself, and 'audiophile' leads are often worse than standard grade cables in this respect.
The 1 Ohm resistor (R6) should be a 1W or 0.5W type, and all others should be 1/4W 1% metal film (as I always recommend). All electrolytic capacitors should be rated at 50V if at all possible, and the 100nF (0.1uF) caps for the supplies should be as close as possible to the IC to prevent oscillation. C1 should be a bipolar (non-polarised) electrolytic, or may be plastic film if you prefer.
Parameter IC TDA 2050
Supply Voltage........................................... ±25 V.
Input Voltage............................................... VS.
Differential Input Voltage............................. ±15 V.
Output Peak Current (internally limited)........ 5 A.
Power Dissipation TCASE = 75°C.................. 25 W.
Storage and Junction Temperature............. -40 to 150 °C.

Is too much power from amp to subs a bad thing?
Is too much power from amp to subs a bad thing?... I have a 720 rms subs running on an amp that has 1200 rms is that bad, if so what amp should I get. I have a Polk Audio db1222 Dual Enclosure 12-Inch Subwoofer running on a PYLE PLA2220 2 Channel 2400 Watt Bridgeable Mosfet Amplifier ( I know its a cheap amp).
Answers
1) honestly.. if you can get it to run without distortion.. I wouldn't worry about anything. - Adam
2) It might blow your sub after a while but, if it working dont fix it. Since you have a cheap amp it will probably be fine - jmadd31
3) Don't worry about it: the RMS power rating of your amplifier isn't 1200 watts, or anywhere close. Check your owner's manual. Your amplifier is rated for 150 watts per channel at 4 ohms, 250 watts per channel at 2 ohms. Usually, that would mean the bridged RMS output is 500 watts at 4 ohms, but the manual lists the bridged output at 300 watts RMS. In any case, it's certainly not likely to overpower your Polk subwoofer system.
I'd worry more about the impedance: your sub box is rated at 2 ohms overall, and that's not compatible with the amp in bridged mode. You'd either have to run the sub box from a single amplifier channel, or take the subs out and re-wire them for an 8-ohm load. - KaeZoo

is the problem with my system, or my cds? i use sonic mydvd plus to burn my cds.
Answers
1) unless the deck states it will play mp3 it wont ...they need to be in WAV format or go buy a stereo that plays mp3 - Pig Eating Muslim
2) That Sony should be able to play CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RW MP3 and WMA discs. There's a chance it could be defective, but i highly doubt it.
I'm guessing it's a CD or burning error. Perhaps it wasn't burned correctly. Make sure you finalize the disc when you burn it. Change some settings.
If it still doesnt work, you can try ashampoo or nero (free cd burning versions) from download.cnet.com - Exile

Do i need to buy a new car battery and a new alternator?... http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_2056_Boss+RIPD3+Ripper+Series+Class+D.html
That is the amp i have and i'm about to hook it up in my 1999 honda civic. The battery i have is the stock one i'm pretty sure. If it's not it would be a cheapish battery.
I just bought 2 12' 1400 watt sony xplods. I also have a capacitor i am going to hook up. So will i need a new battery and a new alternator with this system?
Answers
1) no you should that is some cheap stuff dude no offense the sonys would be running at about 400 watts RMS at i reckon 4 ohm that amp has more than enough power but it is so also not a great amp I'm not trying to boast, i just telling you you may just got ripped off.
but to answer the question you are all good and you don't need to get a new battery or a capacitor you should have enough power in the stock battery. - DJ Wormy
2) if you had a real 2000 watt rms amplifier you would need the H.O. alternator and battery for sure.
that boss really does about 750-800 if you are lucky. just google 'the big 3' and do that. that should be all you need to do. - draggin
