Which subs should i get?

Question 1
Which subs should i get?...  I had 2 12" MTX Magnums in my explorer and they hit pretty hard but i want to get new subs that hit a decent amount harder.....i was thinking about Kicker L5's but i hear they have bad SQ and i heard kenwoods aren't THAT good.

1)   JL AUDIO! The W3V2 in any size is a great sub that hits hard but for the ultimate bass get a W6 or even better (but more expensive) W7. Make sure you power them with enough rms wattage rather then the peak wattage that most amps advertise. Check crutchfeild to buy any of this, they have great costumer service. - David

go with the 13.5" w7 its 1000 watts rms and it really bumps.

they probably have the best sound quality.

its a little pricey but its worth it.

unless if your in a budget go with the w3v3's model.

the 12 inch or 13.5 inch they are perfect and look real nice.

its about half price, or a third of the price of the w7,

5)   JL's W6 and W7's are among the best available. They're expensive, but worth the price. You're right, Kicker's square subs aren't that great for SQ. Sound waves are circular, not square! And Kenwoods are good for cheaper, entry-level stuff but they're not great overall. If you've got the big bucks you can also check Orion, RE Audio, and other companies like that. - Erik

4 Kicker CVR 10s hit harder than 2 JL Audio 18s W3???!?!?!?...  Will 4 kicker cvr 10s hit harder than 2 JL Audio W3 18s? If not, what will hit harder than them, on a limited budget? thanks

1)   Well just get 1 JL audio W7 13.5"

1000 watts rms.

well if your on a budget it depends how much you can spend.

you could also get two Kicker L7's or the L5 models.

make sure to get the 15's.

but if your on a budget trying to get something that sounds louder that 2 JL Audio 18" W3's then youre out of luck.

my 600 watt rms / 600 dollar system can't even top that. - lilgregrie

2)   4 tens will catch more high end bass like 100 hertz and up but will not touch and 18 in low bottom bass like 0 - 100 heartz which is the most popular for bass contests and to make your hair stand on end. Also JL audio is alot better quality than kicker - Scott H

3)   2 JL 18's are going to hit harder than anyone will ever need if they're in the correct enclosure, and are powered to their full RMS potential or a bit higher. - Erik

Question 3
Should I get a CAR GPS or a DIGITAL CAMERA?...  I am 15 years old and I have a job and I'm paying for my car and insurance by myself. I have some extra money that I want to spend. I want a GPS because I have my restricted license and me and my friends like to go places out of town that we've never been to before and I hate printing directions off of the computer. I would love to have a GPS and it would make things a whole lot easier. I don't have a digital camera as of right now and I can never take pictures of important events unless I buy a disposable camera, which gets pretty aggravating. The GPS and digital camera are almost exactly the same price (a little over $200). So, I want you to decide which you think is more important for me and please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. :-)

gps's are cool, but it's not like you can go to places out of town EVERYDAY.

Also, a lot of the GPS things can be wrong. Just last week, I had to give directions to an interview candidate that got lost using her GPS. (It didn't factor in construction, seasonal roads and one way streets.) - Sarah

Question 4
Hooking up an amp to existing speakers?...  Can you hook up an amp from the existing speaker wires instead of running RCA's to the back of the deck? Are only certain amps capable of doing this? If it is possible how do I do it and what do I need?

1)   only some amps can do this, they have high level input connections on the amp, but you can buy Adapters or crossovers that will allow you to do it with any amps, check with your local Audio shop, they will have them in stock. prob around 20 bucks. - snowman

2)   To hook up an amp period u have to run rca's. If you choose to hook factory speaker up to an amp be sure to install bass blockers so you don't blow them. It's hard to answer your question without a little more detail... Maybe a repost with a little more info. - Curious1

3)   ok to answer your question yes you can tie into the speaker wires using a LINE LEVEL CONVERTER this basically takes the sound from the speaker wires and changes it to an rca output that you can run to the amplifier. NOTE you will lose some sound quality (meaning the final sound to the amp will be weaker when it reaches the amp) they range from 15 to 25 dollars or so. - Scott H

Will my alternator power my system?...  I was wondering if my 110 Amp alternator would power a 1000 watt rms system, without lights dimming. I wanted to get 2 12" Alpine type R's or 2 Kicker L5's.

1)   It Will Power It If The Lights Do Dim Then Just spend another 70 dollars and Get a Compasitor Will Fit That Problem - Da Cat

2)   yeah why not and if it does just get you alil cap they make any system look alot more powerful then what it really is. plus you can get you alil neon action going on along with it - bubbaarmy

3)   ok so jl audio did a study a little while back and proved that capacitors do nothing in the way of helping with dimming lights from powerful stereo setups. Either up your alternator or just go get a good gel pack battery optima etc. they will allow you to not have your car started and still will not dim your lights when the bass hits and for SEVERAL HOURS also. A stereo run off of a 2 farad cap will drain the cap in no time. And with a 750 cca battery you have the extra bonus of never having to worry about your car on cold starts( depending on location) - Scott H
