Say I had full coverage or something, and they got stolen

1)   That depends on what type of insurance you have and what happened to them. If you have liability coverage, no. However, if you have comprehensive coverage that includes theft, it is possible.



If they are stolen, a comprehensive plan that has provisions for theft and break-ins may cover them. But, if they were damaged or broken (say you blew them) they will not be covered. Insurance does not cover equipment failure or repairs. That is the place of a warranty. - Headtater

I'm with Desjardins here in Ontario. They cover up to $1500 for the loss of a stereo. If you stereo is worth more than that, you have to tell your insurance company about the "Additional Mods" on your vehicle and your rates will be adjusted accordingly to cover the total value of your stereo.

5)   It really depends on who your coverage is through. I had my whole system stolen and AAA replaced everything as long as it was mounted. 2 Amps 2 subs and a Deck. All it had to do was pass inspection that everything was mounted.



There was no $ limit either. $500-5000 they would have covered it completly. - Joe

how to get the max wattage out of an amp?...  
well i have a 2 ohm stable zx1500.1

and a couple of dvc powerbass 12's 4 ohm stable

2)   Why would you want to get the max out of it and risk blowing it? - Erik

3)   Either use smaller impedance speakers or, speakers connected in parallel (watch the phasing so cones move in same direction same time) so that effective impedance seen by the amp is less.



The output is a voltage swing set by the power rails. If the amp circuit supply is for example 12v, your audio will swing +6 to -6 about the 6v "ground". Power max is going to be=v^2/R.= 36/R

So, the smaller you make R, the higher the power output BUT there is a limit to it, depending on the current that your output transistors can handle, because I=v/R. - Sa T

4)   John this depends on how many ohms it is capable of if its one ohm then wire it to that... if your not sure do some research on a search sit google or yahoo... then search on subwoofer ohm configurations if its DVC or SVC state it. - Greg

2)   SOUONDSTREAM!!! no... you should go with the RF p3 because pioneer is not really suppose to be in cars... it should be in your house powering your surround sound... Rockford over Pioneer. plus the rockford will outlast the pioneer anyway... they are also more efficient. premiers are good but they dont have the db output of a RF do to RF being better quality materials... Question 4
What could be making my subs sound bad?...  My subs are loud as they are supposed to be but the quality of the sound is not what I think it should be. Is there anything that might be effecting the quality of the sound?



Here is the setup:

I have this package

I have 8 gauge power wire running from battery to amplifer in trunk on drivers side of car.



I have 8 gauge ground wire grounded to metal under carpet in trunk.



I have the rem wire and audio signal wires running from head unit to the trunk on drivers side of car.



I have 12 guage speaker wires bridged to subs from amplifier.(Yes I know they arent as big as they should be,but its all I could get ahold of at the time and havent had chance to upgrade, but Im not sure if it is what is causing the problem)

1)   one thing that imediatly came to my mind was that you may have fun the power wire down the wrong side of your car.. sometimes if you run the power wire, or RCA cables down a side of a car that is near other power wires for the car, or if you run the RCA near the tranmission, it will make it sound like crap. also you could check and make sure your ground has a REAL good connection. you really should have some 4 AWG wire... also, the amp that comes with that set up isnt anything special. ALSO your deck could suck.. lol there are alot of options - breaker584772000

3)   Dude, 12 gauge speaker wire is even OVERKILL for your setup. Thats really big for a run from the amp to the sub. - odinsragess

ok i dont know anything about capacitors... all i know is my amp is an alpine m1000 .... an my subs are 2 12inch type r's....

1)   you will not need a cap. reason being is that for one... thats not alot of wattage... 2, caps. only regulate current flow... smooth out the currents coming threw it. i suggest you get a high output alternator, a yellow top battery and upgrade the gauge of wire from you alternator connecting to your battery... way better than a cap... if you insist on nerd bling and need to half a cap... will only need a 2 farad cap... make good decisions! - xteamSOUNDSTREAMx

2)   A capacitor is some what of an extra battery. It holds a charge and then rapidly discharges itself whenever a heavy bass note hits. It isn't actually adding energy to your electrical system. It just holds a charge until a bass note hits then instantly recharges itself to get ready for the next bass hit. This would be a good capacitor for your setup. A lot of people say that caps don't do much good but really they do if your system is under 1000 RMS. If you're on a budget then you could go even smaller with a 2 farad cap. It's recommended 1 farad for every 500 watts RMS. But, you can never get a cap TOO BIG. You don't need to upgrade your alternator or anything for now. If you decide to get a higher powered system then doing so would be a good idea. Hope that helps. - Taylor B
