how much better/louder would my system sound?

Question 1
how much better/louder would my system sound?...  right now i have 2 12" alpine type r's in a ported box pushed by a hifonics bxi1208d @ 1 ohm and a pioneer deh-p5100ub hu. would my system sound alot better if i upgraded the amp to a rockford fosgate t10001bd, upgraded my power and ground wire from 4 to 0 gauge, and upgraded my big 3 with 0 gauge? would it be alot better?

1)   Add another 12" or a 15" for better bump. - jason

2)   all the wires will add to your battery life , the only things that will make it sound better would be more subs or a better amp( unless your amp is already a good match it would be pointless ) hope this helps bud - sk3tchy5ubz

3)   No you will barley notice it you got a good setup right now.. just get another speaker amp and power your speakers with that it will be much louder and clearer - Nic

4)   Yes dude the only thing that will make it hit harder is that Rockford Fosgate amp that will make it bump way louder. If it says 1000watts since Rockford is such a good amp it will probably put out 1200 watts. Umm the wires is just a hassle keep the 4 gauge there is no point in upgrading that you aren't really running to much power so no. But for sure with that amp. - Dylan

Question 2
I just installed a new car radio no sound is coming out of the unit?...  I just purchased a new car radio and installed it myself, the unit is on but there is no sound. All of the fuses are good. Please help!!

2)   Alright, first you need to make sure both the power wires are hooked up and right, and the ground has got to be hooked up and good. If the ground doesn't get a very good connection, you probably won't get any sound. Secondly, if you wired the speakers and ran the wiring for it yourself, you need to make sure they are all connected and right of course, and aren't pinched off anywhere. If you bought the plug-in deal, you might try to go back through the wiring and make sure their all right, lol. But, in your case, it sounds like it might be you're ground. But then again, I could be wrong. Anyway good luck and I hope this helped out some. - Justin

3)   is there more than one Stereo output if there is try combination of all the ports but before you do that try the volume and look at the manual a look at trouble shooting hope this helps if not sorry - biscut

4)   I'm thinking this is a ford. ford speaker wiring is messed up. what you need to do id get yourself a regular small battery AA or AAA. Then your gonna grab your 2 speaker wires and touch and hold one wire to the neg side of the battery and tap the other wire to the positive side of the battery. if you have the right wires you should hear the speakers make a popping sound. if the wires are wrong you will hear nothing. all you have to do is keep trying until you hear the pop sound coming from the speaker thus identifying the correct speaker wires. - mrwhizeguy

Question 3
Subwoofer acting up. need help?...  When I turn my stereo on the sub hit randomly with no rhythm and hit fast. The volume control doesn't work and I have to turn the system off to make it stop. It started yesterday while i was listening to music driving down the road. It will still play music but the noise is overwhelming. Any ideas?

how many decibels can i gain?...  i have two subs in a sealed enclosure and im estimating about +/-145db, im using a 2000w amp. if i run a 4000w amp and go with a vented enclosure what will my projected db gain be?

1)   145db is already past the point of pain to a human, and will damage hearing. Enough is enough. - Great Scott

2)   Doubling the power will result in about a 3dB increase. Likewise, you can expect about a 3dB increase when going to an optimum ported enclosure.



If you are looking for pure SPL, it would be best to use the added amp power to drive another set of subs. The more subs, the more air they move. - PimpMyRide

3)   It is impossible to say with the given info. It depends on what subs you are using and what enclosure specs you are using.



The above answer was right that you can gain up to 3db when doubling the power. You can, however, gain more then 3db with a ported enclosure over a sealed. That is not a given though as you may have a little or even no gain. It all depends on the enclosure specs/subs used.



The 3db you can gain from doubling the power is theoretical. So the actual gain will be closer to 1-2db. This is not a huge increase unless you are competing. Audibly it is a small difference. Simply upgrading to a proper ported enclosure will most likely make a bigger difference.

Whats a good Sub/Amp combination?...  Ive got a 2009 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab truck with a factory system. Im lookin to upgrade it with a good Pioneer deck, a set of Rockford Fosgate Punch series Shallow mount 10s, and a good amp to power them.



so heres the question...Do i go with a 2ohm or 4 ohm 10" sub and what amp should i use to power them?

1)   Considering that you are planning on running Fozgate subs, I would recommend a Fosgate amp matched to the subs (ohm load). If not, a good Alpine, or other high end amp matched to the ohm rating. As for the sub ohms, I would research the enclosure that you are planning on running and then decide which of the two subs would be best. - magewulf

2)   Get the dual 2-ohm models and an Alpine PDX1.600 amplifier. Wire them like this and you'll be in good shape!
