is my 600 watt sony amp blown because when it was on i put the 12 v cord on the negitve?...  what happens if i put the amps power supply on the positive while its on

1)   Was it an extra ground wire? if the amp is on wouldnt all the cables be used?



Anywho, check the fuses, if the fuses are fine but if the amp still doesnt come on, shake it really hard and test it again.

3)   You can damage the amp like that...don't ever do that if possible. You could short circuit the system. More than likely u blew a fuse. Not really a good idea to try and connect the power wire while the car is on.....It will spark and u may be able to connect it, but it can also spark up or short it and blow a fuse. It's dangerous but sometimes i get lazy and do it, but u really shouldnt. I saw my sisters father damn near catch on fire and had to go the hospital when i was little trying to hook up a radio while the car was on....I was sitting in the passenger seat and the spark shot out and caught his chest and burn him really bad. - highjumper205

4)   I know a guy that did that not too long ago, that amp was fried. Had to buy a new one. 12v power wire to the negative = fried like an egg. - georgewillings

Question 2
My amp will stay on the whole time?...  So I just installed an mtx amp and two 10" mtx subs. Everything works fine but when i turn the car off, the amp will stay on and wont turn off. i have the remote turn on wire linked ot the radio fuse in the fuse box, and i don't think this is the problem but i may be wrong. what else could it be? Im pretty sure i have the amp grounded correctly too but i may be wrong.

1)   check your remote wire

cause you should have 1 constant 12v from the battery+your remote out of the back of your radio and that is what shuts the amp off when the radio shuts off +the ground and those should be the only three wires you need to turn you amp on and off

colors are usually 12v-red remote-blue ground-black/brown - Eddie

2)   you gotta hook it up to the +12v Switched wire..... or just add a off/on switch to it. - Aaron

3)   U need to run it back into the radio..the fuse is keeping it on constantly ...if not then hook up a switch to it where u can turn it off. - highjumper205

4)   Hook It To The Wiper Fuse That is What I am Running Right now because New Cars When You take The key out Radio still runs till you open the door which is a seconday switch the radio fuse never shuts off in new cars hook it to the wiper cause that only works when the key is ahead Good Luck - Da Cat

3)   amps usually have a power light and a protection light on them so if the power light isnt lit then check the protection light and if thats not workin retrace every wire and fuse i had the same problem with mine.
