In general, which brand of car stereos are the better? Alpine, JVC, pioneer, or sony?...  *especially for ipod playing

1)   Alpline would be the best out of those, but also check into Eclipse both have great sound quality - Matt

5)   jvc is a love hate deal some people who hav them have no problems at all and some do so i had one and i hated it but my friend loved his. i have a pioneer deck now and it is def a good deal for the money i have never had any trouble with mine. sony don'tt get it. they don't use the same watt scale as other car audio company but alpine would be ur best bet but they are a little more pricy just dont get a sony deck or any sony car audio in general alpine is the best for ipod connectivity though. control ur ipod threw ur deck very cool feature - Jeffrey H

Question 3
Car audio question... Can my sub break my window?...  I am installing 2 15"s in my firebird and the subs are literally 3 to 4 inches away from the window(rear)... Im running it with a 2000 watt legacy amp and the speakers are volfenhag ( yes I know they "suck") anyway my parents are worried that it is going to break the window or the weather stripping around it.... is this correct?

why?



cause all the air will find a crack to slip out of

so not enough pressure will build up in order to actually break a window



and if thats 2000 rms power

the least of your problems will be a new window

2)   Nope, that amp is really over rated youll be lucky to see 1500w rms if that. Steve meade doesnt even do that and he has over 20,000 watts of power with 4 18" subs. - CJB

3)   2kW is probably peak power. THD at that power is probably so bad your speakers will explode before the window.



Assuming you do end up creating something that resembles bass however, I would worry more about other things coming loose in the car. Sure, you may loosen the window over time but it's not like the thing is going to blow right out the back of the car. Mythbusters tried that one. - John

Cd player in car does not work no fuses we could find were blown except fuse from the power cable to sub amp?...  my friend and i were installing a subwoofer in his car and the rem cable touched the amp and caused a short. the cd player does not turn on any more and we could not find any problem anywhere the only fuse blown was the fuse on the power wire for the amp and that should not have any effect on the cars cd player what could be wrong? (the fuse on the back of the cd player was not blown this leads me to believe there is nothing wrong with the cd player and it is not fried)
Can the cd player be blown if the fuse to it is not blown? wouldnt the fuse be blown and the radio fried or is it possible for the fuse to still be good but the radio fried?

2)   1, why was the power wire hot, should have the batter disconnected before anything else



sounds like it sent a power spike into the cd player, try to manually put power from a known 12v constant course to both the memory and key on power wire to the cd player, if still nothing you have an internal problem with the cd player, if it comes on you have a problem with the car wiring - jacob f

3)   did you check the car's fusebox? does the radio have a reset button somewhere ? does the head unit have a wire harness that plugs into the back of the unit itself? if it does maybe the harness melted and there is still a short in the wire or the wire melted somewhere between the head unit and your amp and is still shorted. you could simply unhook the remote wire from immediately behind the stereo and see if that helps - cool guy

why is my amp getting hot?...  Ok i have a 2400 watt volvenhag amp hooked up to two 15'' Kickers the older models and its sharing the positive,negative,and remote wire with another amp that is for my highs and the 15''s are bridged so why is my amp getting so hot someone please help thank you.

1)   well i don't know about systems so i can't tell you if the setup is wired right but i can tell you that an amp is like any other electrical devise, it needs air flow to keep cool, like a computer, dvd player, tv, game sytstem and so on, you could possibly have the amp in a position where the vent holes are blocked to not let the heat escape, if the holes are on the bottom then that means you should have it on a hard surface, not on carpet - chevypride0310

2)   Low impedance levels on amp will make it get hot.



Do you have the gain set right?



The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp for correct power matching and to minmize clipping.

3)   define hot. all amps get fairly warm when driving a subwoofer at a high volume. if you can hold your hand on it for more than 5 seconds without screaming like a little girl their is no problem with heat.

if it is hotter than that you need to check your power wiring and check that your ohm load is correct.

also volvenhag is a lower end amp and may run hotter than a higher end amp. - draggin
