18" or 15" sub woofer?

Question 1
18" or 15" sub woofer?...  Looking for the harder hitting bass. If I have 1 18" thats 1000 watts rms will that hit harder or about the same as, 2 15" that equal 1000 rms for both. Right now I have 2 12 l5's in a ported box pushed by a RF 1000bd amp. I want more bass. Which option is better?
Obviously I want more bass duh!? That was the question wasn't it?

2)   the 18" will provide lower frequencies. larger cone space means lower frequencies. the 15 will have more power but they wont hit as low.



you will get some distortion depending on how much power you run through it, 1000 watt sub with 1000 amp, distortion, 1000 watt sub with 800 watt amp, less distortion. - Rabbit

3)   Honestly in cars I don't have much experience, but I am a bass player, and I have used various sound systems to get bass in my music.



My girlfriend has a Boston brand sound system, and the bass speaker is a mere 3-4 inches, but it can fill the apartment building with noise. You aren't looking for that obnoxious car-rattling bass that you can feel in the car next to you at the stop, are you? - wozowski

4)   The more effective cone area, the more sound pressure. The individual response of the speaker will not be changed by enumeration, though. - don r

5)   i would get the 2 15" because you are going to have more cone area than just one 18.



you are going to need another amp though, if you want to keep the same amp get a 18" or a 21" around 1000 watts. More cone area = more sound pressure - That Guy

Question 2
What Two 12" Subs Should I get. Eazy-E 10 POINTS!!1!!?...  Only suggestion is 4ohms. Sound quality isnt that important I just want to make the ground shake. Suggested budget around 250 maybe? Just want to ghetto blast

1)   LOL, you might find a couple of SOLO-BARICS that will make the ground shake. But why sacrifice sound quality for bass? You can get both, just use a decent amp and get a capacitor. It'll help when your gonna hit a low bass frequency and the cap keeps the music from dropping out. You might check a website like OVERSTOCK. They sell decent stuff for a fairly good price, plus shipping is usually 3 bucks. - Fury

2)   Solo barics are great but more than 250 with a box. VMinnovations has two kicker cvr's in a proted box for like 220 free shipping. They bang hard and look great. - Anthony M

2 Ohm or 4 Ohm in an amplifier?...  Is more Ohms the better in every case? I'm looking at various amps and I will either get an amp that outputs Power @ 4 Ohm: 115W x 4 or Power @ 2 Ohm: 115W x 4. Which would be better in SQ and loudness?

but it depends on how many subs and componets you run. it doesnt matter to much - mike

3)   For sound quality i would get the 4 ohm amp, because the more ohms the lower the THD (total harmonic distortion), so the music doesn't distort form the amp as much.



You can get more power out of 2 ohms because the resistance is halved



ex) 13.7 volts x 50 amps = 685 watts at 1 ohm



at 2 ohm = 342.5 watts



at 4 ohm = 171.25 watts - That Guy

can you plug your phone into a tape deck adapter?...  okay so my car only takes tapes, lame i know, but i have a portable CD player, no ipod or MP3 or anything like that, but i got a new phone that has a built in MP3, it does fit in it but will it work? (i didn't have songs on it when i checked if the size was right, but now i do, but i can't really go out and try it with my 1 year old son running around, plus i am lazy =P) but will it play my phone?
tried it in my boyfriends car and it works! but my car wont switch over to "tape" for some reason. any ideas?

2)   Yeah if it is the 3.5mm size it will play. The sound quality wont be very good, and bass will come out extremely distorted. If you are just listening to your music softly then it will be satisfactory. - camasap
