question about bass caps?

Question 1
question about bass caps?...  do bass caps even work, are they even worth the money and at what wattage should i get a high output alternator and a 2nd battery, im getting 2 alpine type r 15's rated at 750rms and 2000peak with a 2000 watt mono block amp, so should i just get a bass cap...would that be sufficient...i dont want my headlight dimming bad when the bass hits...

2)   go find yourself a good 1 farad cap. this will be plenty. if you dont, the first time you turn your system up and the bass hits, everything will shut off in your car. (not a fun thing in the middle of the night)



caps arent that expensive. its well worth it to dish out a little cash now than deal with the headache of it later. - Josh

3)   The main factor is the size of your stock alternator, also the actual power of your amp, what impedance it will be driving, and how often you plan on blasting it.



But the short answer is a stiffening capacitor will NEVER, and WAS NEVER intended to make up for an insufficient alternator.



And if your amp is 2000w rms that's going to be a problem for most stock electrical systems. - N2Audio

Question 2
What is easier on a cars charging system?...  an amp that has regulated or non regulated power supply.

1)   Regulated, because it only uses what it needs. It regulates the voltage.

A non-regulated power supply uses all that it can, all the time. - ಠ_ಠ

2)   If you're setting up a large audio system in your car, I'd recommend getting it its own battery thats the easiest on the cars electrical components. Don't even connect it to the car.

Not sure what your budget is but any regular car battery for about $90 should do. - Garrett

I can't give you the electrical explanation, but I can give you the logical one.



Amps that are stiffly regulated try to produce rated power throughout their functional range of voltage, typically 11-16v. When the voltage is low the power supply ramps up its current draw in order to produce high power at the lower voltage.



Loosely regulated amps are designed to produce the most power at high voltage (something 14v+). At lower voltages instead of drawing more current to try to produce more power their output simply sags.



It should be pointed out, however, that the difference between the two wouldn't be significant, especially considering that your cars voltage should almost always be in the 13-14.4v range. - N2Audio

Question 3
Do i have to run my 6x9''s off an amp?...  I have a pioneer deck that puts 50w x 4, so if i get 6x9''s with obviously more power than 50w must i run them off an amp? or could i just run them underpowered? And if they were run underpowered would they be any louder than stock speakers? i dont know much about car audio other than how to install it. I know taking out the 6x9''s in the back is better for your subs.



but i have a old chevy cavalier and the i have no door speakers so i would have no main sound other than my 3 1/2s in the front.

1)   no you do not have to run them off an amp, people will recommend it for it to be louder but you can easily have a nice system without an amp. - jack29

2)   A decent pair of 6x9's should perform fairly well with a head unit powering them.



However, your HU's not 50x4. 50x4 is the max rating every HU advertises. Pio's rms ratings are 17-22x4 so it's not hard to see why a 50x2 (RMS) amp would make a nice difference.

But, yes, you can get decent results with just the HU, especially if you're not used to a genuinely GOOD sounding car stereo. - N2Audio

3)   if you have a 4 channel and you want to run only the rear 6x9s off the amp what you would do is

install the amp like normal if your radio has rear rca outputs which most radios do run the rcas from there to the amp and split the rcas with some rca splitters to both channels of the amp and from there

run the speakers to the amp and bridge 1 speaker to channel 1 and 2 and the other speaker bridge to channel 3 and 4 the amp should tell you where bridgeing is - Phillip

Question 4
Best sub/amp combo for $300-500?...  I have a 2001 Toyota Sequoia and am looking to upgrade my system. Unfortunately, I do not know anything about this. I listen to mainly rock and hip hop, so I want to feel the bass but still have a nice sound. I don't need anything that you can hear all the way down the street, but something that is still pretty loud with a good bump. Anyone have any suggestions for me? Also I have read you need to put your sub woofers in a box, but I don't want to make one myself so if you could also help me with that it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1)   well these subs are relly nice they bump if you want them to bump but you can control the bass to lower them these are good quality. and for the price is very good hope this helps - Oͻדᵃlu™☆

2)   American Bass is the way to go. the total package is around $375. Amp box subs wiring kit all included. Im actually looking to sell mine.. - Lovett

3)   If you want true power go for a high RMS amp like a mono alpine 500 for 250$

And an alpine sub with ported pressed plywood box for about $300

Question 5
Can I change wire in an amp?...  I bought a Rockford fosgate power amp and it only takes 0 gauge wire for both ground and power and I wanted to know if I could just stick with my 8 gauge wire instead of spending 60 bucks for wire

1)   No. - doane_nut

2)   no no no. it only accommodates 0 gauge for a reason, it needs it. if you try to use your 8 gauge, you will burn through it and cause yourself some serious problems in a matter of minutes. After i made that mistake the first time, ill never do it again.

you may be able to get away with 2 gauge. but i wouldn't chance it.

3)   you can but.... rockford power amps are very power hungry amps and the amp will shut off if you run it off 8 gauge if you wanna cheap out on the wire i would suggest at least some good 4 gauge wire nothing smaller whats the model of the amp? - Phillip
