Why arent my subs loud?

Question 1
Why arent my subs loud?...  I have 2 Kicker CVR 15 hooked up separately to a Audioque 1200 for a 1 ohm load. Gain is about 35-40% up. It just does not sound all that impressive to me and I dont know why. I got 2 gauge power cables, 12 gauge speaker wire, and my alternator is 150 amps. My box is sealed, chambers each 2.1 cu. ft. Kind of small, but it should be way louder. Places around here dont know anything, please give me some ideas on what could be wrong. Thank you I appreciate it.

3)   do you have an amplifier? it basically just is like a box the size of a laptop computer and it just amplifies the sound. If you already have one, it might not have a lot of power. Usually a good amp is around 800 - Person

6)   1.your box is too small,the kicker 15 cvr need alot of air space which for right now small box=crappy bass.get a big enough ported box built to the specsw of the two subs=heart pounding bass



2.the gains on your amp are mostlikely to be off balance which=not enough power to your subs.



3.you need a cap or a second battery anytime you go over 1000 watts your draining you power from your car which=underpowered system - alex

7)   go get a multimeter at radio shack for 20 bucks,, check your voltage at the amp,, if its lower then 12 volts you have a problem,,,, check for lose connections from the battery all the way back to the trunk,,, make sure your lpf setting is on and not your hpf ,,, turn your subwoofer outputs on your cd player up mabee thier to low,,, sorry you wont get much help online with this,, this is a testing problem ,, i would have to test things,,, 2 15's should straight up bang!!!!!!!!! - john g

Question 2
Is it just me or do you guys have to do this to?...  Do you ever have to adjust the bass/treble depending on what kind of cd you play? I ask because i was listening to one of my favorite cds today and i put another one in at the EXACT same volume and it was just TOO boomy and my sub went crazy, and actually, the overall sound was just messy...is that my car's cd players fault, or is that bad cd mixing/engineering? Most of my cd's sound really good, but occasionally i get a loud mess. I hate the idea of adjusting my settings for every cd i put in...is it just me or is it like this for everyone????

2)   Different artists mix there albums at different levels. Some go real heavy on the base and some don't. It has nothing to do with your cd player it just depends on the cd. - Brad

3)   burnt cd's usually play at a lower volume,,, - john g

4)   I find that true especially with MP3's Nero; XP and other burners have a limiter that adjusts the volume between the songs on the CD, I always use it, found out this helps and I only play burned CD's in the car either WAV or MP3 - Lance

Question 3
What does the "Big 3" upgrade actually achieve?...  The big 3 upgrade has always been something i have wanted to do because everyone says instead of getting an extra battery or new alternator, start out with the big 3 upgrade...but im wondering...what does it actually do? How much does it help?



my system: 2002 grand prix....alpine cda 9884, autotek sm1- 1500 amplifier....2 crunch ground pounders subs....4 gauge wiring....tsunami battery in the trunk....

1)   the thicker the wire the better the current flows...its just like a hose...the thicker the hose the more water is able to flow trough it...The Big 3 helps current flow better...If you're having minor light dimming then the Big 3 should help you get rid of the light dimming...if after doing the Big 3 you still have light dimming then it's time to get a High Output Alternator - Dj-King-Cesar

2)   you dont need to upgrade your big three for a system like that ,, (no offense) some people refer to the big 3 as the wiring from the battery to the alternator and your ground chasis and some other wire,,, not the battery and alternator ,,,,u got that tsunami batt in the trunk,, your fine,, your especally fine if you that autotek amp is a class d amp,, that means it draws alot less current - john g

3)   ok, you have a 4 gauge + wire to your amplifier directly from the battery. how big is the factory ground wire from the body to the battery? is the wire a high quality wire. how about the alternator power and ground wires? - dragon breath

Question 4
does my car have a way to plug my ipod in?...  it's a 2007 suzuki forenza. i've read some reviews that say there is a way to plug mp3 players in. I want to know if i can do it without getting the attachment that goes through the radio, because those get kind of annoying.



If so, where do i get a cord to attach it and how much do you think it will cost?

1)   Stop by your dealer, they will show you where the attachment goes, or if the car does not have one they will carry a kit to retrofit the stereo with the right part. - pbleek

2)   Well, no sure what your question is leaning towards, Power to the ipod, or just letting the ipod play on your radio without having it powered.



Simple, go to walmart, and get a little signal transmitter, really cheap, and plug it into your ipod. The signal transmitter is small, portable, some can actually clamp onto the ipod, and on it, usually says a list of radio stations that you switch over to, and the transmitter replaces what is playing on the radio station with what is on your ipod.



And most of these things are wireless, no need for cords.



However, if your car says something like AUX, and theres a hole next to it, thats where you put the ipod input.



My way above is easiest by far though. - BAY

3)   If There Is A Way To Plug in Your I Pod It Would Be Thru A AUX Reciever Which is A Small Hole In Front Of Your Radio Where A Regular headphone jack woud fit. If You Do Have It All You Got TO Do Is Go To A Nearest Audio Store Or A RAdio Shack And Buy A male-male 3.5mm stereo speaker extension cable ($5 at your local tech store). plug in your i pod to the Aux Jack Of Your Radio Source Your Radio To Aux And It Should Work... - Richard

What speakers are the best for a low price?...  i need to kno what sound system is best for a car when i have a low budget. i need speakers, HU, amp etc

1)   get a pionner headunit one of thier low end models new for around 100 bucks,,, then get a memphis amp around 200 bucks and get some kicker cvr's u can get all that for around 450 on ebay - john g

2)   I would go with Pioneer all the way around they have some very reasonably priced speakers that sound pretty good and there head units are good too. - Lance

3)   I spent about $400 on my speakers and head unit. Its all infinity kappa series stuff. My amp was expensive though, a rockford fosgate punch amp, with a 15" subwoofer. You could get a decent amp and sub for less than the $450 i spent on that. - Pete M
