ways to tell if your sub is blown?...  k well i got this 15'' lanzar 4ohm 600w rms sub from my buddy and i was just wonderin if there was a way to tell if it was blown or not cause i have no amp to hook them up to i plugged them into a regular radio of mine and they werent loud but they wasnt cracklin or poppin either plus i kinda new they woudnt be very loud what with the radio i was playin them on and having no amp ,,,any wayz i know if they were completly popped i would hear no music ,idk,, i plugged it to my head unit with no amp and i could kinda hear the music but the sub was bouncin like crazy,,,how can i tell if it is blown or not does it sound blown ??i just dont wanna spend alot of money on a amp when the sub is blown

1)   if it sounds bad get another one - Gots me gun

2)   You can pan the volume all the way left or right, front and back and listen. You can systematically work out which ones are messed up. If you got an EQ mixer in your stereo then you can turn the base up and treb and mid down and listen. Check it at low and loud volumes to make sure. If there's no sound then definitely, if it's rattling then it's blown. Probably open your trunk and doors so they don't vibrate as much at higher volumes for testing. - SpeedMechanic

3)   you can gently push the center of the sub in. It should move in and out smoothly, no resistance or rubbing.



Also if you have a DMM, you can hook it up to the sub and check the resistance of the sub.

resistance = ohm. The DMM should read in the area of 4 ohms on a healthy sub. - kostura118

WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST WAY TO WIRE MY HIFONICS 1900W AMP TO MY 2 RE DUAL VOICE AT 4 OHMS?...  THE SUBS ARE 600W RMS AND HOW SHOULD I WIRE THEM IN PARELLEL OR SERIES .ALSO THEY ARE IN A SUPER BASS PROBOX. PLEASE ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GOOD.
THE SANCH I LIKE URE ANSWER AND WHAT DO U MEAN TUNE MY SUBS LOW . HOW DO I DO THAT

1)   I would wire each independant sub in series (8ohm), then parallel both subs together for a 4ohm load. Now that they are in a Superbass, you can tune them low, giving you the hard thumping bass you want, without making your amp work too hard. - The Sanch

2)   Hard to say how to wire your subs. There's several things you need to consider which are not posted yet.



You say they are dual voice coil....what ohms are the coils? dual 4 ohms? or do you want to run the amp at 4ohms and are asking how to wire your subs for a 4 ohm load?



So first thing's first, is what do you want the amp's power to run? 4ohm load?



And second, what are your sub's voice coil configurations?

2)   a good web site for good prices on car audio is www.sonicelectronix.com. when you buy an amp, you go by the RMS. to start off, you should get a 2 channel, 500RMS amp. it will look something like this: 2 channel, 250RMS x 2 @ 4 ohms. it will cost you around $150. the subs go by RMS too. you should get 2 12"s, 4 ohm, 400RMS subs. these will be like $65 each. a box for 2 12"s would be like $50. the wiring kit will be like $20. wiring your subs is very important. i wire all my stuff at 8 ohms, so my amp doesnt overheat. if you are serious about your system, you should google series and parallel wiring. wiring it normally is cool too, but sometimes amps overheat quickly, thats why i wire mines at 8 ohms. - nybassking

1)   thats easy. your dual voice coil subs have 2 positive and 2 negative. you put the 2 positives together on 1 channel, and the 2 negatives together on the same channel. make sure that + is on + and - is on -. on one channel. you can bridge it this way too. this is called parallel wiring. 4 ohms becomes 2 ohms. i do not recommend using 2 ohms because it overheats your amp quickly. make sure your subs can handle all that RMS. i wire all my subs at 8 ohms. you do this by using series wiring. it only uses half the power from the amp, but you can blast the subs a long time before the sub over heat. my amps are massive so i get the power i need. you should google series and parallel wiring. - nybassking

2)   Yes, it is possible. On a DVC 4ohm you 'parallel' them together for a total of 2ohms. Which is positive(+) from the first coil to positive(+) to the second coil......and negative(-) from the first coil to negative(-) on the second coil. Then you run you positive(+) and negative(-) terminals off your amplifier to the positive(+) and negative(-) coils on your subwoofer. And if you parallel your subs TOGETHER, then you have total of 1ohm. THUS....Be sure your amplifier is 1ohm stable!!! Otherwise it's cooked!!!! - The Sanch

I know its not good, but would a 600 watt explode 4 channel amp handle two CVX 10' with a rms of 600 watt each?...  I will admit, i do not know how amps for subs work, but would that work, untill i can get me a better amp?

1)   Will it handle it? Yes. The 600 is a max that you will not be hitting continuously. Also the wattage are usually severely under powered from what they say they are. I would bridge the speakers though on a 4 channel amp. Shouldn't be a problem. - John

2)   that amp was the first amp i ever bought, and i still use it. it gets hot as fire, and it still plays! its a good amp but not that powerful. i have 5 amps now on one system, so i know a lot more. that amp only has like 240RMS. you need a lot more RMS for those subs, if they are 600RMS each like you say. sony makes the same amp, 2 channel 1000watts.- so its probably like 400RMS. you get 2 of those sony 1000watt amps and put one sub on each one, you'll be workin with something then. bridge one sub on one amp. it gets hot tho, at 4 ohms, thats why i wire everything at 8 ohms now. but 8 ohms uses only half the power. - nybassking
