about my boss amp with kickers?

about my boss amp with kickers?...  ok i need somone to tell me the exact settings to set my 800w boss amp so that i wont blow my kicker comps? do i need to have my range or whatever all the way down? i turned it down sounds like no subs? idk im new to whole sound system stuff let me know b4 i mess somthing up please.

1)   that things not gona blow...you can crank the subs..trust me...just make sure its not rattling or sounds distorted - De H

2)   The exact settings will be when the system sounds good- full fidelity without distorsion or mechanical noise, rattling and sheet metal ringing and license plate flapping. - don r

3)   It would be nice if you'd provide the model number of your amp. "800 watt Boss" leaves several options.



There is probably a "mode" switch. You want that on low pass. Then the low pass dial should be somewhere near 80. Then turn the bass boost to zero and the input level to "min".



Then put in a cd you like and your bass and treble (or eq) settings to their midpoints. Turn up the volume either as high as you can stand listening to it or 75-80% full volume -- whichever is lower. At that point go back to the amp's input level dial and slowly increase it until the subs start to distort. Turn it back a few degrees and you're all set. - N2Audio

when i plug in my sub it dosnt work?...  hey i bought anew jl w6 and a kicker amp i put a new wiring kit, but my deck is nextar witch is around 2 3 years old and my amp gets power but when i plug the sub in theres no bass any help?
i no theres power comming the the b+ and the ground is working fine.. i no the subs work because i tested them same with the amp.. more help please

1)   Make sure you "really" have power to the amp. Most amps will turn on the l.e.d. with just a ground and remote trigger. Make sure your B+ wire has power. Make sure you have an RCA cable connecting the amp to the radio, this is what gives the signal to the amp. Also try another rca output on the radio if it has more than one. There are many things that could be wrong here. It is very hard to give an answer without looking at the car. Also check your ground. It takes very little power to turn an l.e.d. on, but it takes a solid ground to get the amp actually working. If none of this helps, pay a professional to put it in before you blow it up. - Shane V

2)   As Shane mentioned verify that you have a signal. Otherwise you may have a blown subwoofer, if you don't have a multimeter or a different source to test it, bring it to your local audio shop and they will test it for you. - Mike

is there any cheap GPS? i need one as low as possible.?...  i had $500 for Christmas gifts and i already spent $211.87. this is my life savings so i want as much money left over as possible and i still need to get a GPS for my dad. HELP!!!

1)   check overstock or amazon. The tom tom's are nice and cheap. the garmin's are built better and more user friendly but these are the top models. u may find a cheapo at Walmart but amazon has some great deals now. best of luck and remember, he's your dad. he doesn't short change you. 2)   This is tricky, because many "really cheap" GPS devices don't work well. The goal is to keep dad on track and not get him lost; not to buy him a gift that is so hard to work and so frustrating that it goes into the bottom drawer to never be used again. My advice; stick with a garmin or tom tom, these companies have been making these for years and have most of the bugs worked out. They also tend to be easy to use. You should be able to find a model from either for under $200. Be leary of units that are $99 with brands you don't know, these companies have usually not worked out all the bugs and they can be very frustrating. - Shane V

can i blow my kicker comps?...  i got a 800 watt boss amp and 2 12" kicker comps in my single cab dodge, i know kickers r a good brand iv seen ppl push em to the max but i just got em today and im scared ima mess em up? all answeres appreciated.

1)   You can blow any woofer with any amp if you overdrive the amp. The number one cause for woofer failure is overdriving the amp and clipping the signal. (turning the amp past its clean, rms power) You will not over-power the kickers with this amp if that is your fear. This amp probably puts out no more than 150 watts of real true clean power. The problem you are going to have is that as you push the amp past its rms power (clipping) the amp will start to distort and put out a dirty signal, which will eventually blow the woofer. Until you can buy a good amp, keep the gain on the amp low, and listen carefully for the woofer distorting. You will not hear this through a trunk, so when you are adjusting the amp listen to the woofer facing it. Good luck. Don't turn it up too loud. - Shane V

2)   Shane is partially right. Overdriving an amp and clipping the hell out of it CAN damage a speaker, but it's really not an issue of distortion.

"Dirty" or otherwise, it comes down to power.

The actual rms capability of your Boss amp should be in the 200-300w range IF you're running the amp at it's optimal impedance. If not it might be as little as half that much.

What clipping an amp does is cause it to operate in a state in which it can produce as much as 2x its unclipped power. It will sound awful while doing it, but for people desperate to be heard it can happen.

Since your amp is capable of only about 300w rms unclipped it will do no more than 600w fully clipped. That could be enough to cause damage to a pair of comps, but if you have any ear for SQ at all clipping is not hard to detect and you can just turn it down a little bit.

Would the following be a good subwoofer/amp/deck set up?...  I'm looking to put some subs in my car and I've done a little research but still don't know too much about anything so I'm hoping someone can give me some help/advice on this!



I'm looking at the following items, please tell me if they would work good together or not, or recommendations for different items. I'm working on a $350-$400 budget.



-2 Pioneer TS-W303R Subs

-Boss CW1100M mono-amp

-Dual XDM6820 Head Unit

-Absolute (KIT450) amp wiring kit (8 guage)

1)   i think that is a good setup but if it was me i wouldnt mix match my speakers and amp. a realy nice setup is a sony xplod 1200 wat amp and 2 12 inch 1200 watt sony xplod subs they sound realy nice. and good for the price to. - mirageracer00

2)   Most of the gear you have mentioned would be considered very low end. I would recommend going to a local stereo shop (get recommendations from friends on a good one) and listening to some options. Let them know up front your budget and ask them to demo what they can offer in that price range. When it comes to radios, I would really recommend sticking to a major brand. Every key company, Pioneer, JVC, Sony etc all have a $99 CD player. Because this is the beginning point of your stereo system, I would not sacrifice here. Also keep in mind you will have several other expenses including installation a dash kit and wire harness. If you have to, I would buy the system in pieces to get the gear you really want. The biggest problem with setting a budget and buying exactly to that budget is you waste money on equipment that just won't do the job. 2 months from now you will be throwing away the amps and subs, because they have blown, or just don't sound the way you wanted them to. All gear will make noise, buy you need to decide what type of noise you want to hear. I am not saying you have to spend a lot more money, but you need to go listen and see what makes you happy. Visit a local dealer. If you did your research online, there is no way to know how it will sound. Why waste money on equipment that doesn't sound good? I hope this helps. - Shane V
