Are you a person who needs sensitized steering on your car? Do you have hand or elbow pain? The new cars I am sorry to say all come with electric steering. This type of steering can not be modified. What are the handicapped or the hand sensitive to do?
For the past twelve years my sister has been driving a car which had modified steering or sensitized steering.
Now for the first time she is seriously thinking about purchasing a new car and the steering is electric. Now what does she do. She is not the only one. She does not want to buy a used car but she may be forced into this predicament.
She has been looking at cars and it has become so complicated. The sales people are not trained into handicapped people needs. They do not understand that under the handicapped laws the car dealer is responsible to have your car steering modified. This only applies if it is a new car. If the car is used you the consumer pick up the tab.
Not all cars are able to be modified. They are the rack and pinion steering which is the best bet for modification. I never realized there were so many kinds of steering.
But to be honest the electric steering came out on the 2008 models and are now staying. I do not know if they are on all types of cars but it is on all the ones she is interested in.
This whole idea of looking and test driving a car has gotten out of hand. How can she tell by a ten minute test drive whether or not she will be able to drive this car. Maybe two weeks down the road she will end up in casts on both hands. It has happened before?
She will have to give this car purchase a whole lot of thought. It looks like she will have to go used and play it safe. Purchasing a brand new car is really nice a great boost to her self-esteem. It is feeling safe from break downs and costly car repairs, but it can be a really expensive mistake.
